Point is - we just don't know. There's any number of things Apple could do in a month's time, we'll just have to wait to find out.

No point getting all angry at something before you know the facts.

What I do know is that the iPhone won't be getting a reduction in battery life, that's for sure. Going off history it will likely be slightly longer than the previous incarnation.

Slightly longer=not enough.

I don't think Jonathan Ive really uses his phone much. That's why he's so blinkered when it comes to battery life.

Then get either a battery pack, a battery case, or the Plus model which has a longer battery life. 12 hours continuous use/1.5 - 2 days normal use (Which is what I guess the 6S battery life will be) is more than enough for most of us.

Exactly.

Battery life is nowhere near enough as it is. Anyone who uses GPS for navigation or plays power-hungry games needs miles more battery life.

The day that Apple can advertise 24 hours battery life no matter what apps you use on the phone will be the day that battery life becomes satisfactory. When the phone can go for five years without being recharged, it will be good.

Would be nice to know how much more capacity one could even get if the battery was one mm thicker/longer or whatever. Can't be enough to satisfy power hungry users.

Battery technology is not at the point that we can expect huge advances, so the combination of larger batteries and less power usage is the current way to go. (Or a balance thereof)

Everybody uses their phone in a different way.

It should be obvious that at one point a battery has to be charged. Annoying concept, but that's where we are and it's not Apples fault that chemistry has it's limits.

All manufacturers have that issue.

See, and maybe I'm just being crazy here, but maybe we could've had all those power saving efficiencies in conjunction with the battery size of the 6 and have a longer lasting phone as a result?

Madness, I know.

I picture Ive like the Dr. Frankenstein of Apple.

"Thinner! Thinner!"

I'm waiting for the iPhone with 500mah battery. It will be called iPhone PRO, and will need a constant connection to power bricks, similar like desktops. I'm gonna buy 5 of them.

Obviously they won't change the physical dimensions of the iPhone 6s (beyond what will fit in current cases), so it makes the most sense that the battery is smaller because they needed more room for force touch. That being said, iOS 9 better be amazing at battery efficiency. Just putting in a low power mode is not a good enough reason to give us a smaller battery.

If the betas so far are any indication, the battery life won't be much better in iOS 9.

I very much doubt I'll be picking up another iPhone for a long time. My 6 has been extremely disappointing and it is easy to see this NEEDED 2GB of RAM. I can't open a browser and not expect my hangouts app to close from lack of memory, that's really old. Then there is Apple's refusal to properly FIX the WIFI problems present since iOS 8 was released. Frequently I have to switch to mobile data to get things to load. 8.3 was supposed to fix it and it partially did, but it came back bad in 8.4.

I picked up a new Moto G 3rd gen for $220 (which has 2GB RAM) and it is a FANTASTIC device. My iPhone plus cost how many times that? I love my iPad Air 2, wouldn't use Android for a tablet for now, but the phone just doesn't have anything over the competition anymore. Extremely buggy software releases and lackluster hardware at a extremely premium price.

what is apples obsession in getting the phone as thin as possible? I can't be the only one that would take a semi decent battery life over a few mm of thickness!?

Increase the thickness/weight to 150% (or 200%) of what they'd like and give me better battery life and better camera lens (because it's thicker) and I'd be a happy camper.

6S MINI?!? Additionally hasn't every model of the iphone gone up a little in battery capacity? Thats why I think its for a 6C or a 6S mini. It would be silly of them to reduce the size in the 4.7 6S.

It's only 5.25% less battery. A little more efficiency and that could work. Seems like a lot of battery power for a smaller version of the iPhone.

Only a year ago an entire army of people on here were denying the existence of the 5.5" iPhone purely on the basis that no parts were leaked.

Plus, a 6C would use the current 6 parts. Meaning there isn't really anything to leak unless a plastic back surfaces.

There are rumours that it uses a new radio chip that consumes less power, and the screen assembly is said to be different so there could be power savings to be made there. Additionally, iOS 9 is more power efficient. All round, it wouldn't be too difficult to get the same performance out of a smaller battery given the improvements in hardware and software. That's the benefit of the hardware and software coming from the same stable...

The A9 is a die shrink, they can boost battery or take the performance; or take a bit of both. Last time, they went mostly for performance, but this time they could skew more on the size of saving power while still boosting performance (just a bit less).

Whats the point of putting 5S internals in a plastic case to sell for 1 year?????

I wish they'd just put 6S intervals in a 5S case. That would be perfection.
Well I'm assuming if Apple continues to have an entry level plastic iPhone the will need to update it with something. I mean I assume the point of the 5C was to eventually get it in the low end spot of the lineup and keep colored plastic for the low end. But perhaps the colored plastic goes and we get 5S free on contract and 6 drops to $99 on contract.

I think for 6S, iPad Air had a smaller battery than the 4th gen iPad but still kept the same battery life.
