what is apples obsession in getting the phone as thin as possible? I can't be the only one that would take a semi decent battery life over a few mm of thickness!?
Could not agree more. The 6 is way too thin and impossible to get a grip on. Either make a smaller (NORMAL SIZED 4-inch screen) or don't round the edges so the thing flys out of my fingers when I try to grab it.

-someone who will hold onto their 5s until it dies or Apple unveils a new 4-inch model.

That is true but were there parts leaks for the new iPod touch? I would bet against a 6c but I wouldn't fully exclude it either.
I would, since there are never parts leaks for the iPod touch. Not that much attention is given to the iPod compared to the iPhone.

Someone posts this comment every battery/thinness thread, and it gets a bunch of likes. There are a few problems with your logic... Apples batteries last long enough for the majority of owners. Everyone has days where their battery drained of course, but those days are few and far between. It's not technological progress to keep things the same. Everything is a race to be thinner whether you agree with that or not. It also has the added benefit of your battery draining after a few years forcing you to upgrade. Like it or not, Apple is out to make profits, not make a phone that will last you years. This is also why they crippled iPhone to 1GB ram. If you haven't figured out making stuff thin is the Apple way then you haven't been paying attention.

Only a year ago an entire army of people on here were denying the existence of the 5.5" iPhone purely on the basis that no parts were leaked.

I remember seeing the parts leaks for the Plus model.

The discussion was really about what it would be called

I think his point is that there's nothing fancy, new or distinctive to "leak" necessarily.

The "6C" could very easily be using the exact same 5S case/display/front and simply getting an internals update (exact same parts as new iPod Touch) and NFC (hopefully) for Apple Pay.

There may just not be anything that is obvious enough to be a "leak"....and/or it might be sliding right under people's nose too.

To me the most compelling argument for an update is simply that they might want to get Apple Pay & Touch ID on ALL iPhones, and also make the A8 the new baseline performance wise (would be a huge deal and a smart move).

My iPhone 6 has great battery life. I've gone down to just under 10% battery remaining after a day of heavy use but most days I'm rarely under 30%. I like the continued efforts to make the phones thinner and lighter.

You haven't had your phone a year yet, wait till then to boast your battery life. Of all the iPhones I've owned, battery life is good for the first year, but after that it sucks big time, major drop off in performance. I realize batteries don't last forever and they slowly lose their charging capacity over time, but after the first year they get to the point of useless and Samgsung's commercials protraying us as wall huggers for power is 100% the truth. I use my phone the same as everyone else on a daily basis. Love it till the battery life fades.

The new hardware and software in the 6s would really, REALLY have to be optimized just to keep the same battery usages figures as the 6, much less it having better performance if this article is true that it will be a smaller capacity battery. And don't count on that battery saver mode to do anything, it's almost the same as putting it in airplane mode. I recently had beta iOS 9 on my phone and it didn't do jack, I didn't see any difference, but maybe because my battery is already shot as I have a 5 model.

The masses are already complaining about poor battery life, Apple coming out with a new phone that doesn't increase performance isn't going to be well recepted.

It should be common since that when you make a device that has expendable parts that can't easily be removed and replaced by the user, that part of the device should always be made better, not made smaller and an expensive hassle to get replaced by Apple.

I am definitely not hoping for a bigger battery but just the same size that will give better battery life with effiecient hardware and software optimizations. I think most users get 6-6.5 hrs usage on the 6 on these boards. if they just made that 7-7.5 that would be amazing

does anyone have the 4-4S and 5-5S sizes inc/dec. not sure if Wikipedia has it correct

There is also much less attention to the 'c' line of iPhones (if we we want to call it that) and less part leaks with internal upgrades only.

I had my iphone 5 two years and usually always got 8-10 hours. I agree though, battery has to be the same or much larger in the 6s. Only so much efficiency can do. This is why this battery makes more sense for a 4 inch 6c or 6s. It gives an improvement from previous 4 inchers in max battery.

We already know Apple is going to tout better battery with iOS 9 low power battery feature.

My question is will 2 GB of ram help conserve battery so they can say 2 GB will make your battery last even longer on the 6s?

Hopefully they finally move to OLED tech since it is more power efficient than IPS LCD. Jobs always said OLED hadn't matured enough for use in the iPhone - well now it has. S6 display quality is amazing. Hopefully this coupled with the move to 14nm chips would allow the smaller battery capacity to be acceptable.

It's not technological progress to keep things the same.

I don't want things to be the same. I want a longer battery life and a phone that's thick enough to feel comfortable in my hand. It is not progress to sacrifice battery life to make something so thin it is more difficult to hold and use. That is called idiocy.

It also has the added benefit of your battery draining after a few years forcing you to upgrade. Like it or not, Apple is out to make profits, not make a phone that will last you years.

So you are criticizing people for wanting a superior product for themselves and not something defective by design for the sake of boosting Apple's bottle line. You, as a consumer, prefer to have an inferior product as long as it's more profit for Apple? Why don't you donate a percentage of your income directly to Apple as a tithe? Apple seems to be your religion and I'm sure they'd like that very much.

I want a longer battery life and a phone that's thick enough to feel comfortable in my hand.

This to me was the key takeaway from my time with the 2 separate iPhone 6's I had (for around a month each).

I simply don't understand how Apple thinks the design is good in terms of actually holding on to it. It's as slick and hard to hold as a wet river rock. Just awful in that regard. I don't get it.

The more rectangular shape and flat sides of the 5/5s design was FAR superior in this area (I think anyways)

...actually, for my money, the best iPhone "feel in hand" ever was the 5C

I can just see Apple looking at the iPhone 6 and saying, "its too fat still. We need to go thinner "

  1. There is no justification for smaller or equal sized batteries. None. Their obsession with thinness has already reached a dimension beyond logic.
Software can only do so much. I sometimes mistake my battery percentage for a timer. The only advice ever given regarding saving power is to use your phone less. Ugh...

BIGGER BATTERY. NOW.

But wait, it's an "S" year we can't dare touch the form factor, precedence has already been set...

This is why I hate Apple. As soon as the 6 was leaked, my first impression was, "Great, two full years of being stuck with this **** design."

Grow a pair Apple and do something unexpected for once. FIX THE BATTERY!!!

Even less battery capacity? Jesus, what are they smoking over at Cupertino...

I'm sure it works great for them at the Cupertino office. After all, they have a cell tower on site. :D

Other environmental elements that affected Cupertino design included their having ubiquitous WiFi way back when (so 2G was considered "okay"), and nice warm weather so that no gloves are ever needed that would interfere with touchscreen usage.

Perhaps Apple needs to move some engineers to some backwoods Northeastern town. *grin*

Forcing you to upgrade.. Instead of spending $30 bucks to change the battery? There's plenty of shops that will swap out your old phone battery for a new one and then it works like new.

5 to 5S 1440 to 1560mah
5C was 1510mah

4 to 4S was a 10mah decrease

I doubt this is real if they go by the past. they havent significantly decreased the battery size yet.

so apple has usually gone with a bigger battery. yes small increases and not the big battery with thicker phone people here want. but still increases
