I use the aux and the dash disk. It sits just above my car stereo volume knob so its really easy to use. I find that I need to be at lower speeds with the windows up and the A/C off to be able to use the speakerphone. The voice control works great.

Mount & Battery Pack

Anyone have any recommendations of a bike mount and battery pack combo. I am constantly running out of juice with the GPS going on longer rides.

Most of the battery packs seems to wrap around the phone so then won't fit in the mount.

Any suggestions?

iphone bike mount

my favourite iphone mount is the spiderpodium (www.breffo.com). It's completely flexible, can be put on and taken off in a few seconds..and can be used in the car too!:)

The only one I've seen so far is from Dahon, but it looks really good. They have a complete system including an iphone mount, a power generating dynamo (if you don't already have one), and the ReeCharge. Check it on on the links.

Mount:

ReeCharge:

Dynamo:

EDIT: For what it's worth, you can just use the ReeCharge & Mount without the dynamo if you want. Then the ReeCharge basically acts as an extra battery pack that you can charge before you head out. I just think it's cool that you can also use the dynamo to generate power as you ride too!

For the last two weeks I am trying Dahon iphone bike mount and noticed they works brilliantly. this is waterproof, shockproof and even you can use control whilst while riding.

I just got the mount I ordered similar to what drbell blogged about. It's pretty good for $3.40. I'm using it on a roadbike so there's no bumps and such so I can't say how it would be on a mountain bike.

There's no way it's going to fall out of the mount, it's really snug. I'm actually worried about breaking the mount when I try to remove the phone, we'll see how that goes.

Now I need to get the cycle iphone app.

Any case, any phone mount

Hey i bought a spiderpodium (www.breffo.com) after a post by sandram and a look at thier site. I have an iohone 3 then with a casemate case and now i have an iphone 4 with a bumper its awsome and worked with both becuase of the design. It grips like a stripper to a pole and is much much stronger than it looks. There is a video of it being spun around a wheel.

I wrap two legs around the brake cables tight and then two legs around the handle bars. I am a commuter cyclist so go up and down curbs and all sorts of roads, but nothing massively offroad and it works totally great. I can also just pull it off and stick it in my backpack so no chance of it getting robbed or damaged.

Otterbox Defender solution

I have been looking around for a solution so that I didn't have to take my iPhone 4 out of the Otterbox Defender case. Anyone who has one of those knows what I am talking about.

So, what I did is took the belt clip that comes with the Otterbox defender, you can see it here (http://tinyurl.com/2gxw67q), and mounted it to my bike with some simple cable zip ties. Worked beautifully.

This option will work for you if you don't use the belt clip device like I didn't.

About 4 zip ties secures it to the bike and also you can swivel the belt clip to landscape mode if you want. Just took it for a 4 mile ride, did a few jumps, hit a couple of holes and it held perfectly.

Total investment:

1. $49.95 for Otterbox Defender for iPhone
2. $2.70 for cable zip ties at Ace Hardware

Any questions, you can get me here:

Can you please post a few pictures as I see the phone with case coming out of the holster? at least from your description it seems this way?

Check out Spiderpodium if your a roadie

Got this grip from http://www.breffo.com fo $20. Fro road biking I wrap four of the legs around by brake wires and it holds excellent. they tied it to a wheel to show the strength - but I still would be so sure on mountain bikes. Still I love it for roab bike, easy to get it off and put in your pack and also can use it in a car, so versatility wins over ruggedness. Anyway worth a look if nothing else.

Biologic just introduced a new iPhone 4 bike mount.

Both of these posts are made by people who are working for their respective company = viral marketing

I would be much less offended if they just said who they were

Thanks for the links. I was wondering this too. Here are updated links (at least their latest models which support the 4s) to buy these:

http://store.thinkbiologic.com/reecharge-case-bracket.html

I'm going to get the dynamo kit later when I get a dynamo hub. Biologic sells a Dynamo hub too which is this Joule II: http://store.thinkbiologic.com/joule-ii-dynamo-hub.html

But the ReeCharge Dynamo kit works with any dynamo so I don't necessarily need to buy this $100 one from them.

Unless anyone has a better suggestion for protection, mounting, extra battery, and possibility to recharge through the bicycle with add on accessories, I'm about to pull the trigger on the Reecharge case and case bracket.

I could have started a new one, but hopefully those that posted in this one over time get the notification. :)

I'm looking for a bike mount for my 4s.

I think I've narrowed it down to the Arkon water resistant case or the Biologic.

http://www.arkon.com/accessories/phone_bike_mount.html

http://store.thinkbiologic.com/bike-mount-for-iphone.html

I like these particularly because they enclose the phone, and in case of failure I'd hope the phone would remain better protected.

I would probably only use this on my road bike, and not all the time. I typically use a Forerunner 301 to capture data, but I have been enjoying hikes by loading GPX files into MotionX GPS so I'd really like to use this on some longer rides without having to dig out the phone from my back pocket. I doubt I'd ever use it for the entire ride as the battery really seems to get eaten up by the GPS. But it would be great to turn the phone on in an area of a ride I am not that familiar with and navigate through that, then shut down.

Even though I will do mostly road with a mount, they are not super smooth around here either.

My handlebars are 31.8 mm, stem is probably a bit fatter. My issues with my bikes are that they are very small (48cm road, 46cm cx and 13" mtb) and my handlebars are proportionately narrow - around 400mm for the road bars. Couple that with the extra brake levers on the cx bike and it's really tough to put stuff there - so the stem is really my first choice. And of course I have fairly short stems.

The RAM mount just seems way too tall off the bike, and there was another mount I did like the looks of (Bicio) that seems to have stopped production at the 3GS and is now sold out. *I* actually like the zip tie fastener method as I have yet to have one fail in years of installing bike computers.

Any thoughts from those that have bike mounts and especially the two mentioned? I really don't want to spend $100 for one, I still need to get a charger for the car <sigh>

Thanks so much!
Diane

Don't get the BikeLogic crap, it's all show I will give the one one I have cheap junk does work.

I have done away from all these and now use a LifeProof Case with the Bike or GoPro Mount. Much better solution by far!!!

http://www.lifeproof.com/shop/cases/iphone-4-4s/

If you get the GoPro mount like I did you can now mount to all GoPro adapters, window, dash or your car, bike, on the end of a pole when snowboarding, underwater, absolutely love it!!
