True and more

This is totally logical. Sure there is a frequency issue but i am sure the chipset they picked will accommodate this need. .....Iphone on LTE will be on all LTE carriers. T-mobile VZW ATT. They are all fundamentally GSM alliance members which is where the Iphone lives.

People keep forgetting how Verizon has been treating Apple and Steve Jobs. They keep throwing things in his and Apples face. Also Verizon is a control freak. They want max control. So, with all this, I only see Apple coming to Verizon after LTE. Which should be next year some time.

Just a thought

Sprint, LTE, and WiMAX

I believe that the head guy at Sprint, Dan Hesse, has gone on the record stating that they are very interested in LTE.

Here is the quote I found: “We have the spectrum resources where we could add LTE if we choose to do that, on top of the WiMAX network,” he added. “The beauty of having a lot of spectrum is we have a lot of flexibility.”

Sprint is heavily invested in the competing 4G technology WiMAX, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't consider adding LTE to their portfolio, as well. What is interesting is how the soothsayers are pronouncing doom and gloom on WiMAX, even though it is ahead of the game and is already rolled out in ~30 markets in the U.S. LTE's advantage is that a number of the phone carriers claim they are going to support it, yet I do not know of any places where LTE is available, much less any devices that will work on an LTE network.

Sprint merging with T-Mobile doesn't make much sense in my mind, since their networks are quite different. Sprint merging with U.S. Cellular would make more sense.

I think adding T-Mobile to the fold would be great for all concerned.

People who use T-Mobile and live/work in solid coverage areas could benefit.

Market forces (competition) might bring down AT&T pricing for everyone else, or at least serve as a check on their pricing/quality.

T-Mobile instantly gets a great shot in the arm financially during difficult economic times.

Apple has an additional retail infrastructure to sell its products through, and the "conversion" will cost nothing because jailbroken iPhones work just fine on T-Mobile's network.

It sets an iPhone precedent for using more than one network, and Verizon wouldn't be far behind.

Everybody wins.

They work great on Edge ONLY. I'm guessing people want to use their iPhones on T-mobile via 3G which operates on a different frequency than ATT. So, Apple would have had to build that into the iPhone 4...maybe they did.

I apologize if this has idea has already been put out there, because I haven't read all the posts between this thread and the most recent Verizon thread on the front page.

I'm not saying that T-Mobile won't be carrying the iPhone soon, but if they are, I doubt they will be the only additional carrier in the near future. Does anyone else think it's interesting that Verizon may very well be moving to tiered data pricing soon? Yes, I know, "all carriers will most likely make this move sooner or later," and "Verizon has always followed closely behind AT&T." But wouldn't it make sense that, if Verizon were just about to adopt the iPhone, they would want to make sure they capped data shortly before that happened, therefore avoiding putting themselves in the same situation that AT&T found themselves in? First eliminate unlimited data, THEN usher in the data intensive phone to the network.

Just my $.02.

T-Mobile in the UK has had an announcement page on their website for a while now saying that iPhone 4 is coming to their network and users can sign up to register their interest.

I wonder if they are trying to co-ordinate some sort of simultaneous launch with T-Mobile US.

Despite the name they are different companies.

not gonna happen

This is not going to happen. Apple & ATT have a 5-year contract which doesn't expire until 2012. Either one could break the contract, but that probably has too many repercussions neither company wants to incur. They could renegotiate the contract, but there is no evidence that has happened.

If this turns out to be true, it's a good time to jump ship. $60 bucks for unlimited text/web/500min, that's sure to increase when they've secured the iPhone.

People just don't know wth they're talking about when they say Apple is going from bad to worse with Tmo?!?! Went from Tmo to ATT for the iP4, returning it today b/c ATT drops my calls daily (it's not the phone, happens with full bars too). Tmo wins JD awards consistently for good reason. IMO, Tmo will be the wireless carrier to match Apple's standard for customer satisfaction.

Well they aren't... T-Mobile is the worst carrier in America

I don't know what T-Mobile's 3G network is like, but I've had a basic cell plan with them for years with zero complaints. (Powertel -> VoiceStream -> T-Mobile, going back probably 10 years.) If T-Mobile offered iPhone, I'd definitely look into it.

Not happening. This is more diversion fluff to make Verizon blink. Kinda like flirting with the fat girl to get the hot girl to think she was passed over and not so pretty anymore.

That's the worst analogy and take on this I've seen. Why would Apple start rumors about beginning to include one company just to influence another? Esp when business deals with VZW are no longer the issue, it's the exclusivity contract with AT&T that is an issue.

Well they aren't... T-Mobile is the worst carrier in America

Maybe in NH or if you just mean 3G (which they only started this year), but not in MN. Esp since upgrades made a few years ago, early 2000s sometime. Other than deep inside buildings and in dead spots around large buildings downtown, coverage is excellent everywhere I go, including out of town. And calls never drop.

And comparing their customer service to stories from friends and family who have the top 3 providers, I'm quite happy to be with T-Mobile.

Despite the name they are different companies.

True, they are different subsidiaries of the same owner but customers of T-mobile are free to use hotspots in both countries.

I guess a multi-national service launch would carry a lot of weight but co-ordination of it would be a challenge.

Yes, because we all saw that in the UK with its 6 current carriers, only one of which offered anything different (12 month contracts and more data on the low cost plans).

Given the demand for iPhones in the UK, the market is not saturated enough for the carriers to need to cut their rates.

didn't i just read someplace that t-mobile was on a list of probable companies to go under soon?

I could see AT&T buying them up, just like Verizon could be a buyer for Sprint/Nextel since they use similar services

I would think AT&T would soak up T-Mobile, besides I see T-Mobile stores going under left and right by me in NJ

The FCC won't allow AT&T buy T-Mobile nor Verizon Sprint/Nextel because that would make them too big.

Oh, and to all the people shouting for Verizon, their coverage is excellent, however, I've never dealt with worse customer service. I've been a customer with them since before they were Verizon, and have never asked for any favors, but when my son broke his phone they absolutely would not budge on giving him a new one before the contract was up. They could care less about customer satisfaction and all they are worried about is money and the fact that you are locked in a contract for two years.

Great...

I've been on T-Mobile for 8 years and have been very happy with them. After giving up on the iPhone ever coming to T-Mobile, I finally succumbed and purchased a Samsung Vibrant [Android]. Just my luck that this would happen. Doh.

Well they aren't... T-Mobile is the worst carrier in America

This subjective statement is based on what facts?

Last I checked (this year), they were the #4 carrier in the US but #1 in customer service. Verizon's customer service is just BAD.

Since there are more than 4 major carriers that alone may disprove your statement.

I, too, doubt this will happen, but if it does, then there is only one important question to be answered:

How does T-Mobile perform in Manhattan?

Apple is going to keep losing potential money if they do not make the T-Mobile jump sooner than later because either way people are going to be using a iPhone on T-Mobile. So does apple want them to pay $200 and get it through Apple, or $100-$200 for the old 2G, 3G, or 3GS on ebay and unlock them? I would go with the option of selling new phones because the bottom line is the phone is going to be used with T-Mobile regardless, why not make money off of it?
