There would have been no reason for Apple to list 1700 in the specs because it's not being utilized. It also would be a dead giveaway that they were going to T-Mobile.

Not just that, something as basic as processor speed hasn't even been revealed yet lol. Most review sites are just guessing btwn. 800-1000mhz. Apple is so good at secrets, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it had the 1700 band.

Awesome

$50 - unlimited talk and $15 - data plan will be awesome ...

bring it on T-Mobile

hope they keep the rates same for iPhones too; not hike the rates ...

Apple is not going to add another carrier while the death grip scandal is going on...it would expose the iPhone as the true culprit behind dropped calls and what not...and restore some confidence in AT&T's network...currently Apple is happy to have AT&T as a "whipping boy" to take it on the chin for the iPhone's shortcomings

iphone 4 specs per apple does not support 1700 MHz yet, aint gonna happen with TMO till iphone 5. i dont see apple making another iphone 4 model just for TMO.

http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html

If you read the thread you would have realized that the chip does support it and that Apple decided not to supportfor now. Moreover adding the 1700MHz band in there would have been a give a way of what was to come.

Wrong. T-Mobile's network is being geared up so that you can have HSPA+ speeds. So it will support very well the iPhone wherever their network allows.

Side note. This would make me happy as it will off load pressure on AT&T and give people option to a budget carrier. Personally, I'd rather let T-Mobile have it than Verizon.

i'm not talking speed, i'm talking being overwhelmed with new users and a huge influx of smartphones.

if the thousands of people that complain about ATT would leave and go to t-mobile, combined with existing non-smart phone users already on t-mobile switching to an iphone = network being overwhelmed just like ATT was.

T-SprintNextel Mobile?

Not that Sprint didn't do it before with Nextel, but I don't see that happening as they are incompatible networks.

I believe that the head guy at Sprint, Dan Hesse, has gone on the record stating that they are very interested in LTE.

I have one and I assure you that it's not a phone, even if you set up a SIP client and use callback from Google Voice (it's a kludgy workaround at best). I've placed a few calls, but it's not really a phone.

Apple sells tons of phones that aren't tied to cellular networks, however they don't do it here in the United States. You can find unlocked iPhones online. It is illegal in some countries to lock handsets to a carrier (e.g., Belgium).

You don't have to tell me, I know. My point was to tell the guy that if the iPhone being on lousy networks bothers him, that's his only choice

and how will Lord Jobs make money with those paltry rates? Apple takes a slice of data subscriptions...I'm pretty sure tmobile will have to match AT&T as closely as possible on pricing

T-mobile? Seriously? I see Apple is really desperate to get away from AT&T because this is pathetic.

tmobile is a German company

didn't i just read someplace that t-mobile was on a list of probable companies to go under soon?

tmobile is actually a German cell phone company that is bigger than its US presence shows. Sprint is probably in poorer shape than the larger companies, tmaoble included.

When will the iPhone/carrier switch rumors end!?

Why would Apple choose T-Mobile? They have substantially less subscribers than Verizon and Sprint.

Your info re: apple getting a cut is about 2 years out of date. They get a one time payment from the carrier now, just like other smartphone makers.

This I actualy believe unlike the damn verizion rumors, but t-mobile doesn't have good reception where I live (not that att is that great either). But this is good for some people, also apple won't just make it exclusive to t-mobile they will have it on bolth networks so nit to overwhelm the network

Here's the radio chip they are using in the iPhone4 according to the tear-downs:

http://www.skyworksinc.com/Product.aspx?ProductID=658

Skyworks SKY77542 Tx–Rx iPAC™ FEM for Dual-Band GSM/GPRS: 880–915 MHz and 1710–1785 MHz bands.

GSM != UMTS, they are separate radios. The iphone4 does have a pentaband chip but the extra band supported (but not listed on Apple's website) is for a frequency only in Japan and not t-mobile.
