This is terrible advice. The old saying is true... "You catch more flies with honey."

Be polite, but stern. As soon as you "go ape sh**" you're done. They won't help any longer.

It's not terrible advice. There's only so many times you can sit there like a little mouse and be like "okay, okay" and listen to their ********. If you make it clear that you're no longer taking what they're giving you then eventually you will speak to someone who can be of actual assistance. You sit there and accept the same ******** to be spewed at you continuously, then what is your end result? The SAME ********. But hey, different strokes for different folks I guess.

Update as of this morning:

Called Apple, went through the system. Asked to speak to a supervisor. She was incredibly nice, called my local Apple store (who apparently didn't even have backup units in stock)...best she could do for me was to send me to my local AT&T store, which will be releasing their first stock at 7 AM tomorrow morning. They couldn't get me a preorder, but she's going to refund me the money spent at the Apple Online Store and make sure that AT&T has my account down as upgrade eligible. Mind you, still waiting to see if that happens, but she did give me her phone number and extension so at least I have a direct line to someone.

I've been on hold now (still haven't talked with anyone) for over 30 minutes... I've called from 3 different lines... All of them are on hold... 30 minutes is just the longest time and no actual person has picked up yet.

...make that 50 minutes, no answer from a person yet... ridiculous... I'm going to have to try back later... It's amazing how much of my time this situation has caused me over the past 5 days... and still nothing to help ease my mind...

Fed Ex dropped mine off at the wrong Apt!

They dropped mine off two doors down and didnt have anyone sign for it. Luckily i was home and still recieved my phone. I called fed ex asap and reamed them for that one.

That's precisely the kind of attitude that the person on the other end of the phone does -not- want to hear. It's not their fault the iPhone is missing/doesn't work/won't make tea, so cut the other person some slack.

Haha, yeah because you "precisely" know how every rep is right? Like I said, If I was tired of hearing the same repetitive ********, I would do something about it, and by doing something --it'd be no more Mr. Pushover Nice Guy. I've been in similar situations where I felt the customer service was poor at best, and guess what? I didn't have to take what they were giving me any longer, and got the end result that I wanted. So, this whole "its not what they want to hear" garbage is irrelevant. Like I said however, different strokes for different folks. I do what I want and get results, and at the end of the day I'm sure the people who are having issues in this thread will do what they feel is best, which is fine. Just don't pretend like you have to kneel over and kiss ass to get something you rightfully deserve.

That would void any insurance you had on your behalf and FedEx will not leave a package with insurance valued at over $500 at your door regardless of what note you leave on the door. If you leave a note to have your neighbor sign for it - yes. Just a piece of paper on the door? No. I tried that on a service monitor I had purchased with a value at $3000 and was told by FedEx that anything with insurance and over $500 will not be released to your door without a physical signature on the scanner/reader. I am sorry but before you 'let someone have it' you should first go to FedEx.com and read-up on protocol. Why let some hourly worker 'have it' when it was really you that misunderstood the policy? So you wait a day or two - at least your phone was not left outside and someone walked by your house/apartment and walked with it!

FedEx left mine in the door. No note. No signature. My daughter was at home waiting for it.

I read Engadget religiously and I haven't noticed anything on there... :/
I would try to submit a tip to The Consumerist. They typically get results from big companies.

Thanks for the heads up. I actually talked to someone (@ Apple) yesterday that basically told me that up until now (yesterday, before I talked with her) everyone I had talked to had done nothing correctly about filing what needed to be filed. Except that the first person I talked to did put an order in for a replacement phone. But that was the only information that was given to me that was accurate. She said that she was filing everything that needed to be done and that Apple would start their investigation with FedEx and keep me posted along the way. But that they were taking care of me and replacing my stolen phone.
We'll see what happens from here, so far, no updates and it's been over 24 hours... I was told that someone would either call me or email me about the situation either way. Neither have happened...

They did the same thing with my 3GS last summer, except they just kind of threw it up onto the porch. I was there waiting for it, sitting within about 30 feet of the door, all day. I finally happened to notice it sitting there when I went to leave the house at about 4:30 that afternoon; I have no clue how long it was there.

After waiting approximately one month, I received my IPhone 4 from Apple (FedEx). Unfortunately, it was an empty box. The FedEx person handed me the package and it was clear that the tape had been forced (torn) open. I handed back the box to the FedEx person and he told me to contact FedEx and Apple. Apple was somewhat ambiguous and only stated that I should receive an email in a couple of days. It appears that my situation with FedEx is not isolated. It seems as though the IPhone 4 shipments are intercepted within the FedEx sorting table, prior to delivery.
