Why, I don’t understand this. Every design choice has to be driven by a change. Why the change in the back camera?? Are we finally getting a zoom lens maybe? Otherwise it’s just a change for the sake of change and will be pointless.
I see 3 possible reasons for such change:

1) a big telephoto sensor upgrade that their small prism arrangement isn’t enough. Just look at sheer size of telephoto modules utilizing Samsung’s hp9 sensors. (Ex. Vivo x200 pro, Honor Magic7 pro/rsr, Xiaomi 15 Ultra). Though I doubt they would use such a massive module.

2) optical zoom module like in Xperia 1 VI. I think this one is more likely. Maybe smth along the lines of a 1/2.76” 50MPx sensor with a 75-150mm optical zoom. (Xperia 1 VI: 1/3.5” 12MPx 85mm f2.3 - 170mm f3.5)

3) using 2 telephoto modules ex. 65mm and 130mm moderately sized sensors (<1/1.9”).

And the need for the bar to be this vertically tall is spatial video. UltraWide and main camera modules arranged on the same axis vertically.

Otherwise I see no reason for such a change.

The only time it’s worth it, is when the cut outs are gone and no holes int be displayed that’s still years away

Please ditch the camera bump completely by adding a tiny amount of thickness to the device and use the extra space for more battery. The extra thickness would be slightly noticeable for about a week of usage and then completely forgotten. So simple. No camera bump, more battery life and no further lame debates about the best shape for a camera bump.

I like the idea of the half glass half aluminum back, cool new two tone look. However I don’t see them abandoning titanium after two years, especially with the Apple Watch just going to it.

With that; titanium chassis, aluminum/glass back. An iPhone with 3 different materials just doesn’t seem very Appley.

You can’t trust Apple with the word „biggest“ or „significant“. Remember when they called watchOS 10 (?) the biggest change to AppleWatch? I wouldn’t even be able to tell what changed. Same with the watch itself.
Apple didn’t say it was significant.

Under Steve Jobs, an iPhone design would only be used on two models (two years in a row). But under Tim Crook, the iPhone 11 design, which was released in 2019, has been used on six models (six years in a row). "Can't innovate anymore, my a**!"
No, this is the iPhone 12 design. Not the 11.

I need to know who has and hasn’t got the new iPhone

Then when I’m at a coffee shop I can tell if someone is worth talking to. If they have an old iPhone I pick up my book and ignore them. If they have a new iPhone I initiate a conversation and proceed to swap investment tips and cryptocurrency insider chat 😜

A tri-folding iPhone that can unfold into an 11" or 12" tablet would be great
That would be the biggest innovation and a dream. I legit don’t know a single person who is excited about a flip fold iphone. A fold into iPad mini size or a trifold into a 10in+ would be well worth the price tag it’s gonna have.

Who was running Apple from 2011 to 2019? Why didn’t Cook reuse designs then?

I swear Tim Cook’s Apple could invent Star Trek style transporters while curing cancer and introducing a quantum computer and people on MacRumors would be complaining about “bean counter Tim Cook” charging too much for RAM upgrades and how Steve is rolling in his grave.

There are so many things on the the software side that could be improved with little effort. Usability has simply not improved for many many years. The lack of features compared to Android is staggering. Apple has invested heavily in data logging. Every move and action is logged down to the millisecond.

Why is this? Apple is selling hardware, not OS improvements. And to tighten the noose, Apple hardware is non-upgradable.

Tim Cook has optimized a company that is now oppressing the general populus worldwide.

I think the proposed camera configuration is very unlikely. They changed the position of the cameras on the non-Pro phone so it could take stereoscopic video for watching with Apple Vision. This charge would mean that the cameras are configured poorly for stereo video in a landscape orientation.

From an eco-system perspective this would be a big step backwards.
Maybe there's been a decision at Apple on the AVP.

When you already have a bump out for the camera system, extending that bump out across the full width means it's stable with the back down, and it provides a greater volume of interior space for other things (maybe a single component that combines front and rear cameras systems, TDCS, microphones and speakers).

Is that really what you think Tim has contributed? Quantum leaps in technology, or even in phone technology? I get your point and your use of hyperbole, but you're talking about someone who cranks the handle every year for a decade and still charges 10X for storage.

Can we stop with the Gurman bashing please?

MacRumors is the one choosing to post his rumors as articles so we can discuss them

Folks are wrong all the time in the rumor space ... it's based upon rumors, speculation, spidey senses, supply chains, leaks, etc

That's the nature of the beast
Found Gurman. You kinda suck my dude, but I respect the hustle.
