We in Louisiana have had a digital driver’s license available for several years now, via an app called LA Wallet. It’s legally valid as a replacement for the physical license, is scanable via a QR code on the digital reverse, and is part of the app that also includes the Louisiana Health Department’s digital record of my Covid vaccination history. It’s one of the few examples of this state being genuinely progressive on the tech front. ??

I had the option to update to the 15.6 beta, and that made the option appear. I think it’s just a matter of the phone not realizing it’s available immediately. An update might force it, otherwise the only option is to wait ??‍♂️
But, I want it now! (Stamps foot, Veruca Salt-like.) ? Apple Support doesn’t see it yet. Maybe it has to propagate like App Store stuff.

I'm in Maryland, just added mine w/ no problems. On the latest iOS version.
As posted earlier, note that this isn't a replacement for the physical card. Says it's only good for some TSA checkpoints 👎
It may only be good now at some TSA checkpoints, but just give it time and more establishments will support it. Apple Pay started off with not a lot of vendor support...now it's everywhere.

Right. Get pulled over, reach for your phone, and get shot because the officer thinks you're reaching for a gun.
Umm... Not much different than having to reach for your driver's license, registration, and proof of insurance. Or as someone else already mentioned, have it ready to show before the officer gets to your car.

kind of a finicky and a pain to set up, but it finally worked and sent the request to Maryland. handy I suppose if you loose your wallet or forget it. (well it came back failed, so useless)

CO already has a digital driver's license (and other documentation like auto insurance) via the MyColorado app.

I’ve long wondered why state DMV with license and registration data are not hooked into the police computer networks along with insurance.

A cop should be able to get these things just from running the license plate (driver’s license may be the exception but if owners were allowed to register usual drivers with dmv, this would simplify things and generally make them safer.)

Same here. I’m chatting with Apple support. I’ll let you know what I learn.
If your s/w is up to date and your region is set to USA, try rebooting the phone.

I'm thinking Apple has done what they needed. I think the real holdup is each state. I'm guessing each state has do provide some infrastructure and maybe design a license that "fits" the wallet app? Designs have to be implemented and then approved. And since it involves government it will be done expensively and inefficiently.

"Government is inefficient and should be dissolved" - Ron Swanson
Apparently Ol’ Ron never worked in a multinational corporation.

Why not, it isn't part of our verbiage these days? Just not active yet so therefore MacRumors reports it and it is not available then it must be Fake News!
Part of the discourse for those who choose divisiveness and hollow complaining over inclusion and affirmative efforts to make things better for all.

Sad that you choose to justify using such loaded coded (see Lügenpresse) language.

Same for me. The only option is Arizona.

I'm on 15.5 and rebooted the phone. No change.

It must be rolling out somehow other than everyone all at once. I'll just try again later.
Sorry it didn’t work. Good luck for a change. Pls keep us apprised!

Who in their right mind would hand their iPhone over to a state trooper for them to take away?!
They don’t. In fact the phone does not even offer any visible information. It’s all through NFC like Apple Pay. An officer will have a NFC device that you tap your phone on and your license info will show up on the officers device. No one takes your phone, and you see what information is provided. I encourage you to watch the wallet section of this past WWDC to understand more.

I live in MD, have an iPhone XS Max running iOS 15.5 and when I follow the directions, only Arizona is offered. Nothing is on offer from Maryland. My wife's iPhone XS is running 15.4, and she can add her license.
Go figure.

You get pulled over and start reaching for anything in your car without telling the officer or asking for permission - you are asking for issues.

It's really not that hard. Respect the officers position and do everything you can to keep yourself and the officer safe. Ex - My registration is in my glovebox, is it ok if I reach over for it? My drivers license is digital and on my phone. My phone is in the center console - is it ok if I grab it out of there?
Timing is also key. If the officer requests for materials, you should be fine to say, go into the glove compartment at that point, as opposed to reaching when it wasn't prompted. Do keep your motions smooth and slow though.

Another thing to suggest is if you're pulled over at nighttime or in low light/dark conditions, turn on the interior lights to the front seats! I've seen officers follow your hands with their flashlights, but with the front cabin fully lit, it does put them at better ease, causing less issues.

For anyone having issues what I did was sign out of iCloud in settings. Then when signing back in it gave me the option to add Md and AZ. Pretty simple painless way to "reset" apple wallet.

The only downside now is waiting for the MVA to mail a code to you for verification on their site. Hopefully it's received by Wednesday next week.

Entered details this am...never saw any Notification saying things were verified but when I double-Click to Wallet I see it there. I cant see anything about my license other than First Name, Last Initial. but cool I guess when I go to the airport later this year.

No point to this if you cannot present it as your license. Maryland is so behind the times, we'll never see this adopted at the state level.

Nobody would. I've read of a number of places where this is implemented, and the officer is specifically forbidden to take the phone - they either hold a scanner next to the phone (which remains in your hand) or they scan a QR code off of it.
