iPhone Duo iPhone Duo: Are you in?

Hell yeah!!!

I’ve used quite a few of the Android foldables and the longest I lasted was with the Oppo Find N5 and Android always got to me. There’s just something off for me with Android that I can’t get past.

So I’m extremely excited to get the Duo as I’ve been wanting to use a foldable long term and I knew  would nail it.

Can’t wait to preorder.

I am not the target audience for the Duo and honestly had zero interest in a folding iPhone or any phone. I am getting the Duo however entirely for the ergonomics of it over the Pro Max. Id never really dropped a phone before the 17 Pro Max which I drop all the time, I think it's the length plus weight plus weight distribution to the camera bump. That drives me insane. I am lucky enough that my hands should be big enough to use the Duo one handed. The other thing that sold me was the potential ergonomics benefits of being able to use it partially folded both holding and letting it stand on its own, I had never considered that before.

For me as a photographer I'm lucky stylistically I don't tend to use the longer zoom lengths but was really excited for the aperture. I am concerned how much Apple will really let you control the aperture though but that is hard to give up for sure.

And as an Engineer I really love how they handle the hinge and the options developers have to adjust precisely around what level open or closed it is, that is a really great move.

If they said they would replace the inner screen for free every 2 years I would have ordered one already. For something that costs as much as a laptop, I just don’t trust the crease to hold up for very long unfortunately.

This would've been an easy cop for me if there was a telephoto lens. I use that like 50% of the time when I'm taking pictures so it's a dealbreaker unfortunately. Can't wait til the next iteration and hopefully they'll include it then.

I'm fully into the Apple ecosystem, and in the case of the Duo format, the software makes it a compelling unit.

I personally quite like the device but I don't know if I am fully convinced by foldables just yet. There's definitely a place for them and I think they can go places but I like my 17 Pro form factor and how familiar it is; I cannot imagine myself waking up and unfolding my phone to check notifications in the morning but maybe it will grow on me.

I'd rather not get into the habit of spending between $2000 and $3200 on a phone.

The Pencil functionality for me is a huge plus. I'm concerned it will be too wide when folded to hold comfortably (small hands), but I'll still be buying one but with the potential to return it if it's too cumbersome to hold comfortably and use like a regular phone.

I'm on AT&T Next anyhow, so next year I will be on the 20th anniversary iphone with only having paid off 33% of the cost of the Duo to do so.
