I wanted to embrace the Duo but disappointed at the huge rounded corners, and odd asymmetrical shape when closed. Short fat and wide is an odd shape.
That along with the small 7.6" display unfolded is a deal breaker.
Spoiled by the spacious 8.0" display with square corners for maximum working display space, I am very happy with my lighter Z Fold7.

Not for me. It’s a compromised phone and a compromised iPad all rolled into one as far as I’m concerned. I have both and will continue to use each for things that they are best suited.

So that’s an interesting take. lol. This doesn’t sound like Apple tho. This form factor wasn’t a last minute decision.

I am on the fence. I am a pro max user ( 17 Pro Max) that is use to having the best cameras available on an iphone. Spending 2K on a phone that has compromises is the biggest thing holding me back. I am hoping the Duo 2 next year will have the telephoto lens back somehow or other improvements that aren't known yet to this gen 1 version of the foldable.
I will know for sure by the time pre orders open but as of now, I am leaning towards holding on to my 17pro max for another year and see what Apple has in store in 2027 for the 20th anniversary.

Watching the launch videos, what Apple's done with iOS on the Duo looks great, and I can see many ways in which it would be cool to have. Apple even directly addressed some of the issues I have with folding phones, but we'll have to wait until they launch to see how well they did. The question that remains for me is whether the inner screen feels cheap and plasticky.
Even if the inner screen feels solid, it's still irrelevant. AU$3500 for a phone is beyond ridiculous! When I got my current iPhone 14, I was aiming to keep it five years, and get the iPhone XX, but given the global economy and the prices of everything these days, maybe an iPhone Air 2 is more likely.

Now fully committed to the foldable phone for work and experienced with my day one Galaxy Z Fold7 I’m all-in.
As such I’m very disappointed in Apples choice of shape, being short fat and wide, including a relatively small unfolded display, the Duo will not replace my Z Fold7.
So much for iOS in a folding phone.
As a long time Apple customer I know how careful they study and plan for future products.
The iPhone Duo is a huge disappointment.

I'm extremely intrigued by the Duo. I think the bar style phone is showing its age. We all know Apple is always late to the game, but once they are there, they do it best. So there maybe a trend change to foldable style smartphones. I remember when there was pushback giving up a keyboard for an all screen smartphone.

No FaceID on the Duo is odd 😂 but happy with my 17 Pro, I upgrade every 2 years so I’m on schedule to get the 20th anniversary iPhone next year

It looks awesome but I never buy first gen hardware of a new product. I'll let people test it out and wait for Apple to refine it.
Anyway I have a 17 Pro Max so don't need to upgrade my phone for another few years. There is a good chance that my next phone will be the iPhone Duo 3 assuming they are going to update it yearly.
The main concerns for me on the Duo are the battery, lack of zoom (don't care about x8 but I use x4 a lot), improve the under display camera quality and how durable the inner display is. If it ends up scratched easily then I'll just stick to normal iPhone with a glass screen.

I'm getting my 86 year-old Mom one. She's going strong at her age... I suspect it won't be her last iPhone. Keep the faith it won't be your's either!
No, I’m not buying a Duo. I simply don’t need that kind of an iPhone and it’s too much money for me. But I’m sure most of those who will buy a Duo will be happy with it. I have to wonder: Will Duo owners end up defending their devices against those who simply don’t understand - the way iPhone Air owners have?

Nah. I'm sure it's cool, and I'll look forward to playing with it at the Apple Store, but I can't imagine using it. For one thing, I know how I am, and if I bought it, I'd probably end up using the outer screen 90% of the time and rarely unfolding it. So what would be the point?

I am undecided. I like that it's a new form factor. I've been an iPhone user since the very first one and the idea of having iOS and the iPhone as something other than a rectangular slab is kind of interesting. I also read a lot on my iPad, but I don't carry my iPad around with me, so I think the iPhone Duo would be nice for that.
The only hesitation really is the price, if money wasn't a consideration then it would definitely be my next iPhone.

I prefer the white but if it’s in short supply I’ll take whichever color is available.

That said, I’m actually very impressed by how the iPhone Duo has been designed. There are some genuinely clever touches, and the animation when you open it is probably the part I like most — that still feels very “Apple” to me.
But the form factor itself just doesn’t appeal to me for everyday use. It looks like a much more delicate device than a conventional iPhone, and if you drop it, I suspect the damage could be significantly more expensive. I don’t even want to guess what replacing that large inner display will cost.
I also have doubts about how that inner screen will age. It’s a softer, plastic-based surface, so fingerprints and skin oils will inevitably build up, dust will stick to it, and every time the phone is folded you’re bringing those surfaces together. I’d be very curious to see what that matte finish looks like after six or twelve months of normal use. I understand why Apple went matte — it probably helps make the crease less obvious — but personally I really don’t like that finish when the phone is unfolded.
The cameras are another issue for me. I use a 17 Pro Max now and I’m planning to order an 18 Pro Max, so I’m used to the best camera system Apple offers. Moving to the Duo would feel like a downgrade in that respect.
More importantly, I just don’t need this kind of device. I use my phone for calls, messaging and smaller everyday tasks. For browsing, YouTube, reading and consuming content, I use an iPad. So the whole “phone that turns into a small tablet” concept doesn’t really solve a problem for me.
And then there’s the price, which is frankly astronomical.
I’m sure the Duo will be very popular with a certain group of users, and from an engineering point of view I think it’s fascinating. I’m glad Apple made it. I just know I’m not the target customer.

The matte inner AMOLED display was the dealbreaker for me. Baffling Apple would even release this with a glossy outer and matte inner.
I wasn’t saying it invalidated your point, simply that it is comparable to the market. Personally the gain of an in-your-pocket iPad outweighs the cost difference. In fact I would say the convenience demands a premium.

The price puts it in MacBook Pro territory, something I upgrade every 5 years or so. For me to buy an iPhone Duo I need it to be a bit more mature and have better camera's. I'll see how it develops, and maybe buy it in 2028 when my iPhone 18PM is out of AppleCare 😀
