It's funny...all along we've gotten design refreshes as part of the improvements. Now, we will have to pay a nice little premium to enjoy it first.

I tell ya...Apple is a genius when it comes to figuring how to charge for what was once 'free'.

Gotta love it! :D

Meanwhile, Samsung and the rest struggle to convince consumers yearly to drop $$$ on their flagship phones.

The S7 and the S7 Edge have done very well in terms of sales. I think the true test will be this year with the S8/S8+/Note8 series.

I agree...will be interesting to see whether s7/s7edge owners get the new model.

I still contend though that it take less convincing for Apple to make their case to their user base than Samsung to theirs, not to mention some people are chomping at the bit to buy the iPhone X.

For sure Apple's customers are more loyal than Samsung's. That is due to the fact that Android users have more choices than (obviously) iOS users. But as Samsung has upped their game to compete with Apple, they are dominating the Android ecosystem more and more as far as flagships go.

Competition is good for consumers since without Samsung, Apple may not try as hard and without Apple, Samsung wouldn't either.

I agree 100%...a strong Samsung showing benefits everyone.

Just wish the s8 were smaller...

The ceramic appear to have sold well at the price point.
If the 2017 iphone goes up I thnk apple will keep the price point where it is at.
However, if they could easily jack the price up by providing packages.
1. Base unit +$100 over this year price
2. Base unit, fancy charger +$100 more than base
3. base unit fancy charger and air pods + $250 than base

Not interested.

fancy chargers and air pods == wasted money

I'm not interested in silly up-sells.

Neither am I. The charger pad that came with the ceramic is still in the box. The $3 charger stand purchased on amazon performs nicely and takes up far less room on my night stand.

For me to upgrade from my ceramic the new watch would have to have LTE conductivity. For what I use the watch for, I really don't see any other reason to buy another.

I'm just slightly pissed that it's going to be released months later than the other versions. I hope we can still pre-order the same time.

I've seen talk of it being released a little later, maybe the following month. But not 'months'. They'll want it out in plenty of time before Christmas.

Rumors are saying anywhere from late this year or early 2018. I personally hope, sooner.

I think they might actually try to go the route of the limited Apple Watch Edition and see how many people bite. If they price this at 1500 for the base model up to 2000 and even more for more exquisite models that include higher cost materials it would be interesting to see how that fared. I'm willing to bet there's quite a few Apple aficionados who would fork out that kind of money just to be in this supposedly elite group.

I love iPhones but no way I'd pay $2k for one because it's made of fancy materials. Part of me hopes the top model is that expensive. Because it will save me money by trying something else for a change. Really don't want a 7S+ which would mean the same design 4 years running.

But I'd be very surprised if they release phones with such a high price tag.

Apple have to be careful here because many people (myself included) will not want a 7s or 7s plus with the same design for 4 years running, as well as being priced out of the higher end model.

I will not be forking out £1000+ for a phone. That is what I am afraid of and if it happens I will be taking a serious look at the S8 or note 8.
