Updated my 16GB 3G. Love the new "none of the apps boot" and "all your media is invisible features". Oh wait, no... they aren't new are they?

Restoring my iPhone YET AGAIN. If it's not fixed in 2.1 I'm going back to cassettes, LCD games and payphones.

Or worse yet - back to a Palm Treo!!

i dont know why everyone is having such long backups... and when i say long, I'm talking about the ones complaining about 1-2hr backups. even with the 2.0 firmware, a backup for my iphone was 10minutes at the MOST. and that's with applications constantly being added and deleted. Also, I am "part of the 2% minority."

However, I called apple and they scheduled an appt with me at the genius bar to get brand new phones tomorrow. me and my boyfriend both have problems... so im hoping we get phones from a "good batch."

NetShare, WORKING!

I'm downloading it now, will be ready in 15-20 in and then I will check to make sure Netshare is still working.

I had not thought of this, now you've got me worried!

brb

NetShare is working the same under this new iPhone update.

I think most people aren't understanding about backing up there iPhone/iPod touch. If you backed up 20 minutes ago before you updated, then it's going to go a lot faster. This is due to the fact that backups take longer if you changed your iPod/iPhone around a lot since the previous backup. So, if you deleted 20 apps, and added 15, the backup is going to take a LOT longer then before.

That's basically the reason why initially backups are faster, but wait a couple of days without backing up and you will know if backups are actually indeed faster.

My backup takes about an hour, no matter what I do between them. I think it has exclusively to do with how many apps you have on the phone, nothing at all to do with how much has changed.

For the love people stop posting useless information... who cares if you are updating it "as i type" ... who the freak cares??? Can you imagine if everyone on this thread said that??? Post only the goods... things that will benefit society

How many apps do you have *total*?

Workarounds are different than fixes. I think people want to have backups, they just dont want them to take two hours.

Originally, my phone took about an hour and a half to do a backup on the 2.0 firmware. On 2.0.2 it takes about 25 minutes to do an initial backup and then only 20 seconds or so to do subsequent backups (presuming I didn't install any new applications). I think this is completely satisfactory...

And as Lepton pointed out yesterday, stopping a backup by clicking on the "x" MAY cause the backup file to be corrupted and not available later.

I have found my brand new iPhone 3G works best if I never attach it to my computer, just a wall plug. Haven't figured out anything beyond that . . .

Can someone do a before update / after update comparison in regards to EDGE data speeds?

I just want someone to back up what i'm saying. (to confirm)

The GPS is better for me after the update.

Before - Very zoomed out view of the map...I'm talking so zoomed out it shows the nearest city 30 miles from here. Takes a long time to pinpoint my location. Sometimes, I don't even get a pin, just the circle.

After - Goes from the zoomed out view to the pin a bit faster...although subjective.....I never clocked it.

iPhone 2G Still Unlocked/Jailbroken

I updated my 2G iPhone 2.0.1 through iTunes to 2.0.2 and it is still unlocked and jailbroken. Also the T-Zones hack I installed back on 2.0.0 still works with 2.0.2. Unfortunately I can not say wether it removes apps downloaded through Installer or Cydia since I did not repwn my phone after upgrading 2.0.0 to 2.0.1. I'm guessing that those apps will be removed like last time.

Hopefully they'll fix the annoying issue with the camera taking 6 seconds to turn on after you open the camera app.

The new iPhone 3G...Half the Price, Twice as Fast*

*in real world situations it takes forever to load apps, backup crucial information, you are lucky to get connected, and lucky if safari works:).

The new iPhone 3G. Priced so EVERYONE, we mean EVERYONE can get their hands on one.

I don't know about this update. The metachlorian count is way off now. I wonder if the firmware screwed up one of the sensors?

Hmm, now that you say that it is quite strange. It's got tons of whatever "metachlorian"s are but seems to be quite low on "midi-chlorians." Must not be "the one" to bring balance to the 3G issues - bummer ;)

after downloading imm now at "Backing up Jv311"
guess ill be here a while. but it does seem a little faster. 1/4 the way there, and i just started.
wooo!
haha

I wonder how long we'll have to wait for the 3.0 update.

I don't know if anyone mentioned this before but people keep complaining that they have to wait ages to back up. When your backing up in iTunes you can just click the little cross next to the status box and it will just cancel the backup but continue with the rest of the syncing.

So there! :p

...and you just corrupted your back up when you do that.

So there. So don't.

Verifying updated iPhone software...

So, this is the second time that upon updating the firmware for "bug fixes" from my PC that my iPhone 3g has gone into recovery mode. The only solution has been for me to restore it from a Mac at the genius bar. This is so annoying and not the way to update my phone from home. I did it reluctantly this time, hoping praying that it would work - knowing that the last time I even reinstalled every apple product on the computer.

Anyone else have this problem? It has been "verifying" for 30+ minutes - and right before it entered this phase it kicked my computer of the interwebs! the iPhone just shows the usb cable and iTunes. nothing more.

HELP, please!

I hope this fixes the sound bug (random sounds just goint silent). I also missed a lot of calls for some reason. No idea why. Hope this fixes it.

Buy a Mac....

Or you can try to make a new iTunes Library.

1.Quit iTunes
2. Hold SHIFT and click on the iTunes laucher
3. Create a new iTunes Library
4. In that library restore your iPhone
5. Go back to your normal library and sync your phone

My experience

I work in an office building smack in the center of a town with 3G. With 2.0 and 2.0.1, I never saw 3G indicated inside my building. I momentarily saw it while the update was going on, but now it has fallen back to EDGE (that's FINE with me if it drops less), and there are more bars. 4-5 consistently, where it was 2-4--all over the place really, on 2.0.1.

I'm noticing the same apparent snappierness that I thought I saw with 2.0.1, but then that went away.

Where I really had the problem with dropping and random signal was while driving, though I also had it just sitting in place. I go out of one 3G area and through two more on my way home with EDGE in between, and a dead zone that was much smaller on my 2G iphone (about 15 seconds at 65mph versus 1-2 minutes) I'll report back after I try that experiment.

I've had this for about an hour, which, with 3G enabled but not connected would have moved my battery bar before, and has not so far this time. Hard to conclude anything solid without more time though.

It's taking so long to backup : ( and people keep calling. Going a little crazy, about an hour since i started updating

any word yet on unlocking? i have an extra iphone i wanna give to my dad but i had to freaking update it to restore it.
