Had that problem too...

Updated my 16GB 3G. Love the new "none of the apps boot" and "all your media is invisible features". Oh wait, no... they aren't new are they?

Restoring my iPhone YET AGAIN. If it's not fixed in 2.1 I'm going back to cassettes, LCD games and payphones.

Yea i had that exact same problem did a Reset all Settings worked like a charm to bring the media back. For the apps i just deleted and reinstalled an app i guess something to do with authentication. Ended up restoring anyway though its all fine now.

Many people say 'this update makes my phone feel snappier' after these firmware releases. Well, I'd just like to note that you're doing a full OS reinstall and sync/powerdown/powerup when you update your phone. So you probably do feel that things are faster, but they would probably feel that way if you restarted your phone's OS every day or so. All of these Apps doing weird things to our phones that can cause sluggishness. A reboot fixes a lot of that.

Thanks for explaining that, I think everyone was wondering...

You attempted to switch from 3G to edge while on a call? If you attempt to do this your call will get dropped every time. I could be wrong but I don't think you can switch from 3G to edge and vice versa while on a call. Seems like I remember reading that somewhere.

No I meant the phone was weak in 3G and was handing down to Edge, and it dropped. It is a common problem for people.

After countless hours of backing up, I've finally got it.

For me:

- No contacts lag anymore! Woo.
- No keyboard lag. Yes!

Its just bug fixes and I don't see any difference in reception.

Hopefully they'll fix the annoying issue with the camera taking 6 seconds to turn on after you open the camera app.

I had this problem also, starting with the 2.0 firmware. The problem is related to having tons of pictures on your phone. I had 1,500 photos, and it would take seemingly forever to open the Camera app as well as to take pictures. It was so bad as to be pretty much unusable. I finally removed all the pictures on my phone and that "solved" the problem. This is certainly something Apple needs to address, but at least you can work around it by dumping the photos off your phone now and again.

Ok so far my EDGE reception has gotten better ( more bars), but now my WiFi connection is fried. I cannot connect to my home AirPort network now. I keep getting an error on the iPhone. I've tried shutting the phone down and restarting, nothing. I'm about to restart the AirPort, even though my MacBooks have no problems connecting to it. If all else fails I'm going to restore the iPhone.

EDIT: I restarted my AirPort Ext and AirPort Exp and now WiFi is working properly on the iPhone. Got 977kbps. Not too shabby!

what does this mean

Worse reception

I'm (and every one I know with an iPhone) am part of the 2% who's iPhone fumbles the 3g to edge (or edge to 3g) hand off EVERY time.

I used to get 1 bar of 3G or 1 bar of EDGE at home. The mis-handoff that was constantly happening render the phone useless unless I turned of 3G... then it would happily stay at 1 bar EDGE all the time.

I now get 0 bars of edge (though I can still make a call and connect to data very slowly- apparently 0 bars =/= no signal) However, when I go to 3G I get "No Service" and the phone won't even try to swap to the 0 bar EDGE.

Contacts is snappy. No SMS lag. However, that's been my experience after any back-up and restore for a while until the bit-rot starts up again.

Seems like nothing new: move along. I'd skip it (since I had better reception with 2.0.1- I'll be going back to that... right now)

my reception seems to be the same. maybe a tad better

always 3-5 bars of 3g at home

right now its at 5

Not bad!

Just finished updating and everything so far is working well!

No app crashing... :D

So far no keyboard lag...

But it's too early to tell...

I'll post back with reception and other details once I get this thing going for a few hours. The reception test will be tomorrow since I will be in a couple areas of sucky reception. My house is currently a sucky area.... but I'll post back!

Hope everyone will get through without troubles! Good luck! :)

Bumpy update so far

I've had the iPod touch disconnect 4 times during the pre-upgrade backup. I tried different USB ports on my iMac.

Currently on the phone with AppleCare. After three recovery modes on the touch, it is finally restoring the iPod. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will restore/update it to 2.0.2.

Oh the drama.... Keep you all posted.

I'm using a non-3G 8GB iPhone and the update went fine for me. All applications and media is present and accounted for and working normally. AT&T / EDGE shows full bars and WiFi is connected to my network.

As for 3G on mine, my bars move just from me turning in my chair. I edited the post to pop in that last one. It just so happened to happen.
