Also, I guess Apple will try to market something like iPadOS for the inner screen, but multitasking in such a small screen is ridiculous and terrible UX. I still think foldables are great, but there’s no need to overengineer it: a bigger inner screen is great to see more content, read more comfortably, etc. in fullscreen.

And on top of that, let’s add how iPadOS 26 destroyed multitasking on the iPad… something like the old Split View or Slide Over would have made a bit more sense for this device.

I have always gotten my iPhones in their maximum storage configuration, my preference. This is the real reason why and as I have said in my response earlier to your comment, it’s my money that is spent and the device I want. There is really no discussion to add to “why” other than it is my choice to get my devices in their max storage configuration. Of course it will be expensive but at the end of the day even though my wallet is screaming, I’m happy.

I’m used to spending $$$ as I have expensive hobbies. Life is too short to compromise.

Dealbreakers for me:

• 1st generation product will be outdated quickly.
  • Think how fast the original iPad was outdated and quickly left behind. Think of how ridiculous the Vision Pro was as a first generation product. I prefer buying models that have been refined over generations and will have long lasting potential (iPhone 13 Pro Max -> iPhone 17 Pro Max, iPad Pro M4, etc).
• Overpriced at $2000-$2500 for the base model.
  • Since I already have the 17 Pro Max and iPad Pro M4, I’d much rather put this in a low fee index fund gaining an average of 10% per year.
  • In addition to the high base price, price for AppleCare+ will be much higher.
  • I don’t like being taken advantage of by market forces as a consumer. With the “AI RAMpocalypse” driving up prices, I’m more than happy to wait out market forces over the next 3-4 years with my 17 Pro Max + iPad Pro M4 until the market hopefully stabilizes.
• No real dust / debris resistance on the Z Fold 8.
  • Long term would have durability concerns without AppleCare+.
• New toy feeling will quickly fade, as it always does.
  • In the end, it will run the exact same apps as any slab phone, simply will a different aspect ratio / screen size. 16:9 YouTube videos will be just a small amount bigger. “Multitasking” on the Z Fold 8 seems overrated to me and not worth double the price.

I’m potentially interested, but the rumored lack mag safe would almost certainly kill it for me. I use MagSafe almost exclusively to charge and in the car during a very long commute in a car without CarPlay.

Surprisingly, I think the lack of FaceID could be overcome, but it’ll have to be really compelling.

The Samsung Z Fold8 I just purchased for a family member provided the opportunity for me to try it, before passing it on.

My impression of the Samsung is it's useful but cumbersome. Notice that the iPhone Ultra is even fatter than the Z Fold8. Certainly not to my liking even though I have large hands and don't mind large phones.

One of the best aspects of my Z Fold7 is its width is only slightly more than my iPhone 16 Pro Max. It's quite comfortable to use day in and day out which I do for work. The tall narrow (as compared to Z Fold8 & iPhone Ultra) form factor suits my workflow ideally.

I will avoid the iPhone Ultra because of its fat rather cumbersome shape. A disappointing situation as I was looking forward to purchasing an Apple Foldable phone.

I have been waiting for the gold. I was upset when we first heard rumors of it being wide, but have since accepted that this is likely the better option. I had originally wanted tall and square for the outside screen, but I think having a 4:3 aspect ratio on the inside screen is the better option.

I’m ok without faceID, I’d prefer it but understand that Apple wouldn’t include it on the outside screen and then double the components for the inside.

I rarely use my telephoto lens as is on my Pro Max. Just not a huge photographer. Apple will have a 2x like they do on the Air, so that should be fine.

MagSafe might make me think twice about it. I love MagSafe and I love nightstand mode. It’s what truly made me get rid of my actual physical alarm clock finally. So that will be a tough one to give up. I’d accept no MagSafe if Apple made a USB-C dock and I could leave the fold open and have that be the nightstand mode. But we’ll see.

Overall, as someone who constantly travels (3-4times per month) and who isn’t the driver ever, not having to take my iPad Pro or mini along and having a similar screen is what I’m most looking forward to. Mostly for media consumption.

The magnets Apple uses are less than a single millimeter thick, and they literally just made a big deal that it’s on the 17e A couple months ago. It will be there.

There are some significant, iconic features that Apple can rightly brag about. One of those is MagSafe.

To offer the iPhone Ultra without this highly valuable feature is a major misstep.

The Z Fold 8 has wireless charging. I’m hoping Apple will be able to pull off MagSafe.

I would agree with that synopsis. For me, there is no dealbreaker; I could live with not having the Telephoto Lens or Face ID since I usually carry my real camera when I take a picture that requires a Telephoto lens, but if a Future Fold has the lens, then I would upgrade.

- Does it flip into iPadOS in big screen mode ? Does it actually fully replace an iPad ? Like, fully, fully ? As in, it combines an entire iPad, this the higher price point ? (I don't think it will)

Dealbreaker for me is the lack of telephoto lens. Missing out on FaceID too is a huge downside but something that I can get by. Price is definitely a concern but then always knew it was going to be very expensive. Unfortunately don't think a telephoto lens or FaceID is going to be available on an Apple fold anytime soon.

Something else will always have a "better" camera. Physics sets the limitations; even a low end dedicated camera takes better photos. If they put the Pro camera on it a different group of people would be complaining it's too thick and the bump is too big 🤷🏻‍♀️
