Other iPhone Fold - what are your dealbreakers?

This would be the only reason I’d consider one right now. My iPhone Air and M4 iPad Pro should last me at least a few more years (hopefully longer), but I’d like to get a iPhone Ultra/Fold to replace them both at some point.
I think people are underestimating just how expensive iPad minis have gotten. They aren’t $400 anymore.
If you want an iPhone and an iPad mini with absolutely identical storage specifications and cellular capabilities, you are looking at over $$2050 before tax. A 256 gigabyte cellular iPad mini, the current one, not even the OLED one, is $849.
Pile on Apple care for both devices, a cellular data plan for both devices, and the very likely extra $100 to $200 for the new OLED model, and you are easily crossing the $2500 barrier.
Now you can make a bunch of compromises, only 128 gigabytes of storage, using mobile hotspot for your data needs on the iPad, opting to not get Apple Care on one of them. But then the comparisons are not equivalent.
And even then, out the door, you are still looking at about $2000. Like I said, the days of the $400 iPad mini are long, long gone.

We're so accustomed to Apple keeping their prices for certain items (almost for decades sorta in the case of the Mac mini) that so many posts we read took for granted the future retail price, the future Prime day price, and the future re-sale on WTF-are-buyers-thinking price on eBay.

Yeah, like I said, I think people are significantly underestimating just how expensive buying both separate devices are.
In terms of just pure price of ownership, it’s very likely that at the end of the day, the price of owning both a top of the line iPhone and iPad mini, and owning the folding iPhone, are going to end up being a complete wash.
The current iPad mini, which has a display from like 2015, a processor from three years ago,the camera system of like an iPhone 6S and A design introduced in 2021 is already $600 starting.
The iPad Air already starts at $749, and its specifications aren’t exactly current.
Not a chance, you’ll be able to get an even Wi-Fi only 256 gigabyte OLED packing A19 using 12 GB of RAM iPad mini for under $800, that’s just not going to happen.

there's still going to be wireless charging, so with a case its the same thing. besides theres multiple leak saying different things. some include magsafe some don't so lets just wait until the actual announcement on this one

As someone who has been wanting and waiting for a folding iPhone since the original Galaxy Z Fold released, I was initially turned off by the passport style layout. But it's been starting to grow on me - especially after the Galaxy Fold 8 launched.
One thing I really feel disappointed with is the idea of losing the telephoto camera. I don't think it's enough to keep me from buying the iPhone Fold/Ultra. But it makes me want to hold onto the iPhone 16 PM as a backup, in case I end up not liking the folding iPhone as a daily driver.
Also, if it is priced above $2K, I may go with the 18 PM instead.

I have the iPhone Air and M4 iPad Pro also. After checking out the Z Fold8 in Best Buy, I can't imagine the iPhone Ultra replacing either my Air or iPad Pro let alone both. I'm still interested in seeing what Apple has designed however and hope it will be a success. Part of my lack of desire for a folding phone is no doubt the fact that I am retired and rarely travel.

I might feel like that too after seeing it in person. Personally, have never held or even really looked at any foldable device for more than a few seconds. I can see uses for a foldable, but can’t really know if one will ever be for me until I can actually try to apply it to my life.
I don’t doubt it does, but does it require an end user license agreement where they can use / analyse the data? Akin to the whole Gmail emails being analysed for ads and AI training etc?
After having Samsung Fold 5 last five years, S10 Tablet and Samsung Pro 5 360 laptop it was the foldable phone that made me switch everything to Apple. Been 16 years with Samsung phone, The deal breakers
1. Bad experience with foldable phone, battery absolute worst experience, I paid 2442 USD back in 2023. Lasted only 34 months. Overall its a waste of money
2. No Mag Safe
3. Regardless if it’s creaseless when you first open it, crease will come in just over one year.
4. Won’t last more than 3 years, if it does then I may consider again but will await the YouTube video entitle “My experiment with the iPhone fold after 3 years”
5. No Face ID
6. Cost to repair unless you got Apple Care ++ can be 40% of the value of the phone at least Samsung experience to replace the inner screen.
7. My Fold 5 depreciated 85% over 34 months so be aware when you buy a foldable there is no big pay back after three years.
8. Cameras for flag ship phone with only two cameras is like pay more and get less ethos!!!
9. We have reached peak phone performance, all tech companies keep pushing on device AI but honestly, and I use AI allot it’s not an essential requirement to have on device AI on the phone.
10. Loose out to some good accessory from 3rd Party like Insta360 Go Flo Pro 2.0 gimbal, that’s just one accessory many more not compatible.
My recommendation, buy and iPhones 17 Pro Max, second hand 13 inch iPad Pro M4 with Magic Keyboards and MacBook Pro M5 as it least parking USD 2400 dollar in that lot while more expensive is going to last 5 years and more.
