Maybe Apple will treat is as a new product line because it is iPhone and iPad hybrid, and it might finally drop the “i” prefix and call it something like “Apple Duo”

I need a drawing of what this would look like.
Agreed. I don’t understand the logic behind a 5.5” outer screen. This would only make sense if the device was shorter and wider otherwise that screen size is not going to cover the whole of the outer display space.

iPad neva intrigued me...it's not a MacBook it's not an iPhone. But this foldable looks like its going to be the real cats meow....ill def wait til 3rd gen in order to get 2nd gen on the low hah...

finally (hopefully), my mans who HAS to have a stylus with his phone can finally tag in to the apple side of the things....the garden of eden things

naaaahhhhhh.....havent heard It said yet but im callin it right now....iFlex (taps into watch health focus, as well). whateva its called, it'll be fantastic and a true gem...oh apple, stay slayin' the tech game, bros! show em how its done (especially if they do it "first" hahahahahaaaaaaa).

The gadget geek inside of me loves this but in reality I’m not sure I’ll appreciate the extra bulk of it as a phone and may end up just staying with a normal phone and separate iPad, likely for cheaper too…

Edit: typo

There’s lots of people still wanting a smaller 5” screen 🤣🤣

FWIW, a 4:3 aspect ratio at a 7.8” diagonal means the inner screen would be 6.24” x 4.68” (or 3.12” wide for one half), and the outer screen with a 5.5” diagonal at the same height would be 2.89” x 4.68”, making for a 1:1.62 or 2:3.24 aspect ratio. It would also mean that the outer screen is almost 1/4” narrower than half of the inner screen.

Digital Chat Station previously revealed the alleged dimensions of the iPhone Fold, claiming the device has a 5.5-inch outer screen and an inner folding 7.8-inch screen. Reputable Apple industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has since corroborated the dimensions, additionally describing the inner screen as "crease-free."

I'd really like it if they would have copied the dimensions of the new Huawei Pura X. That's the first foldable phone where I've thought "hell, yeah I like that"

Of course, the iPhone Fold will also be twice as expensive as the Pura X...

My guess is that Apple is moving to have iOs and iPadOs parity in terms of features at the latest when the iPhold comes out, so they don't need to worry. Probably even merging both strands together in the end.

I'm sure they already doing the steps necessary in the background. Heck iPad even got a calculator app with the latest OS upgrade.
They had a unified OS until 2019 when iPadOS branched off of iOS.

For the mini fans, note also that this makes the outer screen slightly wider than even the iPhone Pro Max 16 screen (2.87”). Not to mention that half of the inner screen being 3.12” wide makes the folded device considerably wider than the Pro Max (3.06”) — but also a bit shorter (vs. 6.42”).

All in all, this will feel more like a Pro Max in terms of bulk. The nominal 5.5” diagonal of the outer screen is misleading.

I still have a 5th Gen iPad Mini, which has the 4:3 aspect ratio, and I am a "stubborn" user of an iPhone 13 Mini. The rumored iPhone "Fold" would combine both form factors (although thicker as a phone) into a single device. I would be interested in buying this device, except for its likely high price (probably high, even considering that it would incorporate two different devices into one). Maybe by the 2nd or 3rd generation, the price might come down and the product improved to the point that I may consider buying one. I will be curious to try one out, in any case.

Maybe that’s why they would use Touch ID instead. If they place in on the rim of the phone at the top you could access it when the phone is open and when it’s closed so you only need one Touch ID component.
Yes, that was the point I was trying to make.

I’m excited to see the product even though I’m not going to buy it. Hopefully it’s one of those magic moments by Apple (eliminating the crease etc).

IPhone fold gen. 1: will only feature the foldable screen.
IPhone fold gen. 2: outside LED indicators
IPhone fold gen. 3: outside tiny indicator screen
IPhone fold gen. 4: outside Oled Display
IPhone fold gen. 5: outside full Oled Display

Lots of innovation and rumor content coming up… 😂

I wish they will do a excessive testing on the folding…
(remembering a robot arm opening Ang closing a drawer with a counter >50000 at a local furniture store that demonstrated durability…)

5.5 inch is really small for today's standard, considering a lot of apps have deisgned their UI for 6.6 and above, i'm sure a lot of apps elements/text/buttons would appear tiny, i mean, i have iphone 11 which is 6.1 inch and some apps i use, the fonts are discomfortingly small and it change with the change the font size in the iphone or atleast not all the font size change.

Combining my iPhone and iPad Mini into one device would be awesome! Only compromise I see would be the cameras unless they target this as an ultra premium phone and include it all. However, at that price, I’d definitely only be upgrading every 4-5 years instead of 1-2 years though, especially since feature designs are starting to level out and are more spec bumps now.
