Call the nearest Apple store. Tell them you are mailing in a lost phone and need their address. Wrap some cardboard around it, stick it in a bubble-wrapped envelope and send it along with your contact info.

For 3 bucks or less it's the right thing to do and maybe you'll get a reward or at least the postage back from the owner.

Law is not one of your strongest features I see.
Research a little more about found property and the steps you need to take before you can claim it as yours.
 
i didnt want to give it to the driver, too risky. I appreciate other suggestions but wouldnt it be the easiest to get numbers off the phone and simple call the dude? Everything else is just a hassle and i dont have the time to drive around. Why not have the owner pick it up?

What's so hard about this - leave it on, answer it when called ... You're getting smoked because you're willing to go out of your way to access the phone vs enable it's return.
 
Keep it powered and wait for a call. As simple as that.

People here really need to stop making unfounded accusations.

You don't need to access his ****, contacts, whatever to return it. Just take it to the AT&T store..I don't even think you should be concerned about anything else.
 
wrong forum nobody is going to help with anything but getting it to the rightful owner. from your post we can tell that the only thing you want is to keep it. I'm a Karma guy so I would do everything to get it to the rightful owner. Which is not you!
 
Let us be real here. The original owner will never get that phone back. That's life. Someone stole my iPhone recently after I was involved in serious car accident. Most people are opportunistic thieves.
 
If OP actually returns the phone then I will really respect that and I hope one of those BS "Win a free iPhone" ads online comes true for him (it did for one of my friends! Not sure how his credit is going though LOL) but if he steals it then I hope the karma freight train hits him at 200MPH non-stop.
 
This thread has shown me one thing and that is I need to put a passcode on my phone just in case I ever lose my phone. I dont want someone finding my phone and poking around on it. Plus if someone does "find" it, I dont want them to be able to use it.

Putting a code on it now.
 
Wow. Just wow. This is the most judgemental, cynical and self serving bunch I have yet seen online. Freaking sad group you are. I have done nothing, repeat NOTHING, wrong yet y'all ganging up on me like freaking cowards quick to judge.

I bet some of you would take that iphone and run... Run fast but here you are in all your anonymous online glory trying to be heroes. Cowards!

I have returned the iphone to its' happy and gracious owner... I didnt need to keep it. I make more income in a week that some of you burger flippers will make in your miserable lifetimes.

Think before you judge.

It's pretty obvious to everybody that you have no intention of returning the phone. You want us to help you get inside the phone so you can wipe it and profit.

You have no legit reason to poke inside the phone.

If the phone is on a wifi network it can be located. Actually pretty damn close too. My tests on find my iPhone Surprised me and the location was spot on.

Apple store too far away. Mail it.

Police too busy to deal with a lost phone? That's really not up to you to decide. drop it off at your local police station.

ok lets pretend you mean more in a week then burger flippers make in a year
im guessing min wage worker makes about 15,000 a year so lets pretend you make 5,000 a week to round down, what are you doing on a bus?

The laughable and unfounded judging continues... What was I doing on a bus? It was a tour bus your honor. And trust me... I am not lying about my status. I only said it to prove my point i dont need to take anyone's iphone like some of you had insultingly implied. End of story.

My girlfriends father makes at least $250K a year working for the United Nations and he takes the bus to work.

If he works for the UN he lives in the big apple and most don't even own a car there. It is a bit different in NYC than most other places in the US.

And his isn't about riding the bus. It is about taking home a 'found' iPhone and asking us to help him break into it.

Wrong, like most people who work in the city he lives in NJ. Dude the cost for a hole in the wall apartment in NY is insane.
