How come for it to be Apple it has to have the Camera Facing the user?

I'm not saying its real, but I keep hearing that as a reason in the iPhone threads... Just confused...

I wouldn't want one that spins around. I had one like that and I hated it... Now I have one that is just on the back and it works great. Like it so much better.

Except for one thing......where's the battery/SIM cover at?

Apple doesn't do covers. It will most likely be like the iPod, with an internal, rechargeable battery.

Because in this case it's called the iChat Mobile, implying that one of the important features will be iChat video conferencing.

Ummmmm...... I don't think that would fit in my pocket, so after a long look and lots of careful consideration I am still thinking about my options:

A) fake

B) completely fake

C) unquestionably and without any doubt fake

D) real (in which case Steve has gone over the deep end)

Because video was the big new feature of iChat, why would they take a step back with the hardware counterpart? Not to mention I couldn't imagine Apple releasing a non-3G phone which requires a camera in the front, there is no way in hell Apple would release old world technology.

But the SIM card would have to be user-accessable if it were to get onto a GSM network, so unless it will be Verizon exclusive, it has to be on there somewhere...

I didn't think of that. I have Verizon, so there you go. :)

For those who are wondering, I am the one who voted for real.

It was completely on impulse, and I think it's fake. :)

Could the SIM card be inserted in the bottom or top, or something?

And please don't make it on Verizon. First of all, I have Verizon, and they're okay. The first thing Verizon would do is put their own interface on there. Then they'd put like a million logos on there. And then no iTunes, no free iChat. Everything will go through them.

Plus, doesn't Apple have a deal with Cingular?

The SIM card could be accessed this way, but Apple will probably put a headphone port on the top and some sort of docking connector on the bottom.

I totally agree with you on Verizon. They will mutilate the interface and features on this just like they did with the RAZR.

Fake

I think this is a fake, I'm sure that apple has to come out with a cooler design than this one, it sucks! I have seen mock-ups than look more real than this and I am am sure apple would not launch such a hideous product to the market. Also where is the serial numbers, the FCC boxes, etc??

I like the name though!:p

Interesting concept, but shouldn't the camera be on the other side if it's to be used for video chat?

Indeed, that's why it's a fake. Makes no sense to put the camera on the back...

It might be a side-slot like micro-SD on the SLVR and V3i, but that dosen't seem to be apple's style. The enitre back is probably removable to access the battery and SIM card, but I doubt they would emphasize the way to do it on a promotional item, which this seems to be...

I don't know if Cingular and Apple have a deal, but I can't imagine that they will allow iTunes on Cingular then release an Apple branded phone to compete with it.

So we are all assuming that the new phone is gonna be a Mobile Video Chat. I thought the iChat thing mean it was going to be able to work great with iChat. Like My Windows Mobile phone works awesome with Messenger...

You got a point. I wonder if they could have a SIM card already in there, and just have software that you can take home or to a carrier's store, "flash" it to make it compatible with that carrier and go from there? That could prove to be interesting.

And Damn you Verizon! You and your corporate people filled with money by charging $3 a ringtone, which I don't pay. HA HA! Screwed you, didn't I?

iChat not necessarily video...

Not saying fake or not, but some seem to think iChat is synonymous with video. iChat is voice only. the current version is iChat/AV, with the added video. So, iChat Mobile is very much a possibility and does not necessarily mean video chat is part of the product. Assuming Apple's product will be a Wifi/cellular switchable product, would there be a real need for a video chat function on the phone? Don't see the need myself, because most will not be able to receive the video chat at this time. While most phones can receive photo's, are there currently other manufacturers that offer cellular video chat phones?

They charge 3 for a ring tone. No way?! I thought sprints was bad for 2.50 (not that I pay for that)...

I couldn't imagine Apple going with anyone other than Cingular honestly... Cingular always seems to be more advanced then they other companies... I thought Sprint was gonna make it but they just dropped the ball on their 3G stuff... They had a chance...

Yep. That's Verizon greedy b.... Um... what would be more suitable for MacRumors? Um.... Oh, people. :p

I can't see Apple with anybody else but Cingular too. And I don't think it will go away anytime soon, since they promoted the ROKR and SLVR like crazy on every TV network in the U.S.

I'm going with fake, but do think it has some nice style, but does lack in functionality. I think the camera placement would be appropriate personally. I don't think they'd try for video chat with this model, just picture taking. I agree with the people saying there's a lack of noticeable battery compartment. It would be easy to get this mixed up with TV remotes though, haha.

It is interesting...you rarely see Samsung or Moto promoting a phone, it is usually the provider (IE Cingular and the SLVR), mostly because it can take months for the provider to pick up a phone which has been out for months. Well, if Apple is making this phone, then who does the promotion? Could Apple launch its own network (think Amp'd, Helio, and Boost)? A stretch, but an interesting thought... zflauaus might have had the right idea with WIFI thing but I don't think the market is quite ready for a WIFI phone and Apple knows that.

Sprint has been in the talks about it. But that was one I had a friend who was up their on the top end of the food chain for Nextel. He also explained that Nextel and Sprint were merging a little more than two years ago, if I remember right. But to me Cell phones have a lot longer way to go with Video chat before it should become a feature...

honestly Computer video chat is still something I'm not sure I like to much. Perhaps its nice for the Business excs that need to do conferencing, and maybe the once and awhile vChat with move (since you moved to a different state for college or something), but really it doesn't seem all that practical to use daily talking to your friends... Let alone a phone...

Heck could you imagine the annoying people we'd have then... its already bad enough you have to hear them talking (especially the walkie talkie ones) let alone, them walking in to a store doing a video chat.

(All on speaker phone)
Person - "Oh yeah I'm looking for movies. What'chya doin'?" (running in to other customers and expecting and excuse me for bothering her).
Person - "I'm checking out now. Yeah at (movie rental store). They are so expensive. And always charging me for late fees. Hold on They want some money"
Clerk- "Mam/Sir do you have a membership card?"
(She drops money at clerk)
Person -"Oh yeah we should go for lunch tomorrow that'd be great. How are the kids doing."
Clerk - "Mam/Sir do you have your membership card?"
"Oh hold on (now frustrated) the Clerk is talking to me"

So maybe that is a bad example, but you all can imagine the horrible ness it would be...
