But the SIM card would have to be user-accessable if it were to get onto a GSM network, so unless it will be Verizon exclusive, it has to be on there somewhere...
HAHAHAHA funniest post ever! Verizon get a decent/hip/exclusive phone....c'mon ;)

it looks like an ipod mini on crack to me...

It is interesting...you rarely see Samsung or Moto promoting a phone, it is usually the provider (IE Cingular and the SLVR), mostly because it can take months for the provider to pick up a phone which has been out for months. Well, if Apple is making this phone, then who does the promotion? Could Apple launch its own network (think Amp'd, Helio, and Boost)? A stretch, but an interesting thought... zflauaus might have had the right idea with WIFI thing but I don't think the market is quite ready for a WIFI phone and Apple knows that.

Never know... Express34 Slot... Come one people you all know there is very little use for these yet...

Maybe its just Apple being innovative again! haha just kidding.

I'm truly curious on who they will go with because Apple is known for there good Tech support, but Cell phone carriers, all have only mediocure support from the reviews i've read... Many will stand behind their provider, but there are just as many people out there that have gotten screwed over...

You have a point. Providers always promote phones, never the manufacturers.

Apple could launch it's own network, but I'm not exactly sure they'd do that. Although they have enough money to do that. They'd need to have a fleet of phones to start off with. They could have like one phone with video-conferencing, one without. It would be interesting.

The form factor is nice and sleek but it looks a little long and the all the buttons make me dizzy.

Otherwise a pretty decent start. The screen should be a little bit bigger.

Not anymore!

Until downtown Portland is blanketed in a WIFI cloud (soon, supposedly) I would never use a WIFI phone; just not useful enough, so I really hope this comes out as a "regular" cellphone.

On a different note, to poppe, I discovered Tor through your EFF link and am most happy! Thanks!

Now, back to the topic....

If this was real, it would be a beautiful design, any chance apple would support verizon?

no chance in hell, verizon is SOOOO behind when it comes to getting the new phones with new technology

It could be real, but I believe it's fake. I don't think Apple would make a phone that long. It doesn't even fold. Apple knows better.

No.

That slogan, typset with the lines that way especially, makes little sense. iPod would be the useful brand to tie into, not Mac. And certainly NOT iChat!

There is a slightly different situation for Apple, because of iTunes. They already promote Moto phones even though they don't have their own mobile service.

One thing I wouldn't expect Apple to do is put an iSight camera on the opposite side of the device from the display :D

Is it just me or does that pause/play knob in the middle look like it'd be woefully uncomfortable when talking? It's the only part of the phone that is raised, and yet it's in an area that touches the face. It'd make more sense to have put it as a flat button and make the number pad raised.

Although, upon second glance, it looks just about as raised as the IR Remote's controls, which are rather flat and smoothly rounded. Still, I could see it being easily bumped.

I think it is real.

-My phone (moto pebl) has no FCC logo or serial number, so why would Apple's?
-the skew looks fine to me, taken from a camera phone.
-camera on the back makes sense. Sync with iPhoto.
-camera on the front doesn't make sense. realtime mobile video just not ready yet for apple to be onboard.
-iChat mobile name makes sense: you could have audio chats with someone on iChat for only the cost of your minutes. text also. video could come at a later date.

Been there heard that, the iPhone is stupid and I am sick of hearing about these "it's coming next tuesday" rumors and of course the stupid PhotoShop jobs.

If Apple really is making the iPhone and REALLY is releasing it then great I'd probably put it on my wish list but until I can buy it from the Apple Store then I have to say it's crap.

I beg to disagree that was the case a few years back but if you look now Verizon is keeping it competitive. Granted they still don't have Sony phones they still have some good stuff. Like the Motorola Q, LG Chocolate, Samsung SCH-990 and having exclusive rights(that will change in a month or so but still) to the treo 700w and rights with sprint to the treo 700p. Tech wise CDMA is older than GSM but companies like Cingular are tryng to move to WCDMA which has better 3g to compete better with CDMA's 3g stuff.

I think it would be kinda of hard for Apple to bring out a phone since there are many established companies out there like LG, and Motorola it will kinda be hard for them to compete. And unless they bring the phone out in CDMA(with EVDO support), GSM(with edge support), WCDMA, and TDMA forms just to make sure they do not leave out any of the key market.

With the right OS it is possible to do video chat on a phone just look at the new Nokia N series some of them have two cameras, and one of them is for self-portraits/video chat.

Besides if Apple wants a camera to sync with iPhoto I think they need to have at least 2megapixels or greater to be useful.

Plus, unless Apple is its own virtual provider (MVNO) the majors US carriers probably wouldn't let them sync directly without paying $$$ to the provider per picture.

I like the general concept, but maybe the fact that this is iChat mobile and not iPhone might mean that it's a WiFi (SIP? Skype? ...) phone meant for taking your iChat to the couch and not a real cell phone?

Apple doesn't do covers. It will most likely be like the iPod, with an internal, rechargeable battery.

I'm sure an Apple phone would be GSM since CDMA isn't used much outside the US, and even our biggest carrier (Suckgular) is GSM, so they want to make it available to as many people as possible. Plus, I know Apple doesn't do covers, but making a non-user replaceable battery in a cell phone is a HUGE mistake. They can get away with it on iPods, but most people probably charge their cell phone more often than their iPod. I know I usually end up replacing my cell phone battery about once a year. Making it impossible to replace the battery in what will, without a doubt, be an expensive device, will be a huge mistake.

Also, about the camera....if this phone is to be used for video conferencing, then yeah, it needs to be on the front. But then you can't use it as a camera phone. It seems like they would need 2 cameras, or some funky swivel thing, which is completely not Apple style.

Just because Verizon has those phones doesn't mean they're great. They all function basically the same exact way since they all have the same interface, same crippled hardware. So basically, you could have spent $100 on your phone and gotten most, if not all of the features the $350 phone would get you.

If it uses Bluetooth or a data cable, it can sync. I download pics from my phone all the time with Bluetooth, or when I have a ton of pics, pop my memory stick into my reader. Cingular has no idea I just transferred pictures off my phone.

One thing that always leaves me scratching my head with these fakes: why do they spend so much time on making the picture look slick, and then tack on slogans that sound like they came from a Bewitched episode?

Ditto. Plus, Verizon probably wouldn't touch it unless they could cripple and bastardize it with their firmware....and what will make an Apple phone so great is an OSX-like user interface. A Verizon Apple Phone would be a crappy phone in a pretty case.

I believe that the possibility of an Apple-developed phone is very real; however, I don't think that's it. The dimensions just don't seem logical for the displayed information. It looks more as if various pieces were designed to work, but not proportioned from a design perspective.

Maybe they might go with Vodaphone or something? Besides skype on wifi phones isn't to stable at the moment(from what I here) just ask all the windows mobile people who have wifi on how they like it. However that will change but at the same time I don't think service providers will want a competing service working so you know they will some how figure it and cripple it like how Verizon and Sprint cripple their bluetooth on some of their phone.

Apple will not make a Clamshell folding phone. Apple's designs value Simplicity and Elegance. Something this phone has and a folding phone lacks. Although I dont like the shuffle type buttons, the rest of the phone is simple and elegant.

Well that is true but some of their phones aren't crippled and you can always put the Sprint or Altell firmware(many V3 owners are using this) on the phone. Then again the LG Chocolate seems to be even more of a step in the right direction. But if this phone comes out it might actually be one of those unlocked GSM phones with no carrier.
