Because Amazon has a diverse product lineup, so they don't need to worry as much about the Osborne Effect.

Even the most recent iPhone is pretty out dated and they have a LOT of catching up to do to meet other manufacturers and Operating Systems..

If the event is on September 10th, it will only be for the unveiling of the iPhone 5S and 5C models and iOS 7.0. In fact, I expect no events for the new MacBook Pro models using the Intel Haswell CPU technology (they'll roll out in early October), but there will be a media event in mid October to unveil the 5G iPad, the 2G iPad mini, the new iMac and Mac mini models with MacOS X 10.9 ("Mavericks") preloaded, and a ship date for the new Mac Pro.
