Because its not like he's any more relevant than anyone else reporting the announced date

How about tell us if a finger print sensor exists?

"Yep"

??

He always says yep to things that are pretty safe.

Hardly an "inside" guy

----------

Bro do you even lift?!

do you know why he still gets inside info from Apple? Because he only confirms stuff they want out there. do you want him to do a video showing how the fingerprint sensor will work while holding an actual iPhone 5S? would that satisfy you?

You know what would satisfy me??!

If this pompous blogger - let's not even say a journalist because he never was or will be should say more than "yup"

It's completely egotistical and frankly insulting.

A one word response.

What a child.

"Yup."

Couldn't agree more. And boy, is he an Apple fan boy. Sometimes it's hard to listen to his podcast because it's so one sided.

His rationalization as to why the Nexus 7 form factor was bad but then months later how the iPad Mini is the almost perfect device borders on the insane :D

He prefers Apple products, so what. Pardon me for not remembering, but what did he say that was insane?

I don't like the 16:9 form factor on a tablet because I don't watch movies on it. I prefer the 4:3 form factor. Does that make me a fan boy?

That is complete and utter BS. He has more credibility than most tech journalists on the Internet. You know nothing of the guy.

What's insulting and childish is people who insult others without knowing them.

As they seem to be in the know, can someone please ask them if we'll get the updated MBP at the same event.

Im calling it here:

It will have a pointless processor upgrade. The phone is already fast enough.
Dual LED - for those who care (could be ok)
12 MP Camera
Some proprietary hardware sensor that only the 5S will have (Finger print?)
Same screen, but they will boast that is has a higher contrast ratio "more colors".

Thats about it. Slight upgrade from the 5 realistically, and next year will be a larger phone.

Hopefully it will be better than my 3GS. My area is in line for ATT LTE soon as well, so waiting it out the extra months is going to work out nicely.

Plus a free account at NSA servers. No registration required, just touch the Home button. :D

Apple has never released updated Macs at the Fall iPod/iPhone event.

oh man -- hey entire industry of mobile computing devices? you can now STOP ALL DEVELOPMENT! "bbplayer5" has declared we've obtained paradise and mobile computing devices are all "fast enough". sorry, pack it up...

it's a "tock" update, not a brand new "tick". no big deal because nobody in their right mind upgrades every year -- just us phone geeks. not normal folks. think of it as a product refresh and thats fine -- i dont expect apple to collide worlds every year, it's just a phone.

i cant imagine getting disappointed about Pioneer's annual home receiver updates not being hugely different every year. not supposed to be...just a refresh of the line for new buyers.

Let me get the trollish Android lot comments out of the way:
"Meh, the iPhone 5S is the same as the 5"

"The XXXXX phone had this feature 3 years ago"

"That's another thing they have copied from Android"

"Overpriced garbage"

"iSheep go baaa!"

"Where's the SD card slot and removable battery?"

"Lol it hasn't got quad core"

"Safari feels sna..." Oh wait, wrong bunch, sorry ;)

So close. But you forgot to use the words "fanboy" and "innovation". Add those in, and you have the perfect trolling checklist. :)

Steve Jobs responded to my email quite the same way. but it was way worse because his answer was "Nope."

Sell it while the word has not spread yet on eBay and you could get back most of what you have paid ;)

every year when i sell one of our (family plan) last-year's iphones i get *more* than the subsidized purchase price of the new phone.

since at&t doesnt give one a discount for having a non-contract phone (their rate remains constant), i consider this being more than the purchase price period.

Processor isn't always about speed, it could be upgraded for more efficiency and better battery life which is always more than welcome.

:D Apple has never released updated Macs at the Fall iPod/iPhone event.

I suppose they could just release the updated MBP without a media event - like maybe tomorrow. That's about a month since the last announcement (Logic Pro X) and about a month until the next announcement (10 Sept). Fingers crossed.

I kinda wish my iPhone 5 would magically break so I would have a reason to get the 5S; I'm jonesing for the better camera & speed boost.

I say the same thing with my electronics. Sometimes when my iPod, phone or laptop gets lost or stolen, I say "I'm glad that happened, so now I can buy the newer version."

Why is it that you guys are always 'confirming' with Dalrymple what other sources tell you.

I mean I can probably answer with a yep or nope depending on what source you guys are confirming with as much accuracy as him.

nope. his data is 100% reliable -- he knows because they told him. so when he confirms it, it's a fact. not so with you.

----------

Yes he has been, less than others, but he is not always right.

can you link us to a yep/nope for which he was wrong?

----------

I really can't stand that "yep" guy

Every year he says the same thing.

Pretty narcissistic of him.

what? he says it because he has insider apple data and confirm the *real* rumor from the false ones.

it's not narcissistic, it's his job. his apple blog is his full-time job.

----------

...
He always says yep to things that are pretty safe.

nonsense -- it wasnt announced. the date was rumored and he confirmed it. it still hasn't been announced.

Hardly an "inside" guy

im not his greatest fan but you clearly dont know your facts. his data is insider.

----------

"Dalrymple is well connected at Apple and has on many occasions either confirmed or refuted other reports and rumors in simple one-word posts with 100% accuracy"

Get some right and get some wrong. Guess enough dates and eventually you get some right. And many occasions is not 100%. All occasions is 100%.

youre reading it wrong. he confirms/refutes rumors only on "occasion", but when he does so is 100% accurate. i know this hurts you.

"Such reports are generally taken as coming directly from Apple but delivered through an unofficial channel."

Only if you think rumours are fact. I will wait for Apple to confirm it.

youre missing the point. he's 100% accurate because they tell him. yet he isnt apple, which is why this article says "all but confirmed".

----------

How likely is it that Apple comes out with a bigger screen?

just happened last year, so very very unlikely.

my god, what is *wrong* with you? were you abused by him as a child??

he was the editor-in-chief at Macworld magazine. he left that to run his own FT blog. he comments on many things apple-related. he reserves the yep/nope for confirming or refuting particular rumors, as he sees fit. he does not owe you a damn thing.

you have serious issues if you feel otherwise.

----------

Couldn't agree more. And boy, is he an Apple fan boy. Sometimes it's hard to listen to his podcast because it's so one sided.

dude. he was the editor of MACWORLD. what do you expect him to like?

His rationalization as to why the Nexus 7 form factor was bad but then months later how the iPad Mini is the almost perfect device borders on the insane

not insane at all -- do you realize they are two completely different aspect ratios? you get that, right? or do you think that "small" is all the same?

Curious what else will be unveiled or released at this event.

-iPhone 5C
-iPhone 5S
-new rMBPs
-iOS 7

Then we have an Oct/Nov event with:

-new retina iPad mini
-new iPad
-iPods?
-Mac Pro
-OS X Mavericks

None of this is true. Everyone on this forum knows that Apple has stagnated and doesn't release or update any products.

is the iphone 5c also coming on 10th september, and what about that retina ipad mini which was rumored to come in mid-sep.

I hope your right. About the rMBPs being in sept.

But when do the Mac minis iMacs fit into this?

Would Apple have 3 events this fall?
