Im calling it here:
It will have a pointless processor upgrade. The phone is already fast enough.

Fast enough for you, maybe. But I would like better performance in games, specifically I want to be able to play new, graphics-intensive games that are on the horizon lag-free. The 5 won't be able to do that forever. So no, not pointless at all

How likely is it that Apple comes out with a bigger screen?

Based on their history, 3G -> 3GS, 4 - 4S, with basically minor upgrade between the S versions, I'm going to say, 1% chance Apple comes out with a bigger screen.

Been giving apple the benefit of the doubt since the 4s, the 5 came out with a bigger screen I was happy but honestly the honeymoon went away after a few months and I found myself bored with the 5. From rumors and all this grapevine talk I truthfully doubt the 5s or whatever you wanna call it will personally blow me of anyone away. Maybe very minor tweaks here & there and the finger print scanner is corny. Look like I might be making the jump over to the S4 very soon

Why would those things be re-introduced?

Historically, Apple has reintroduced almost every iteration of iOS (3, 4, 5, 6) after previewing it at WWDC months before. They also did the same with Leopard, Snow Leopard, and Mountain Lion. Their keynotes usually marry the official release with the something like "There are over 200 new features in this release, but we only have time to cover nine of them."

Dual LED - for those who care (could be ok)
12 MP Camera
Some proprietary hardware sensor that only the 5S will have (Finger print?)
Same screen, but they will boast that is has a higher contrast ratio "more colors".

Thats about it. Slight upgrade from the 5 realistically, and next year will be a larger phone.

My exact thinking as well. A "meh" update.

I'm placing all bets that the "C" in 5C stands for Core

A smokin' hot 5-core iPhone, so fast, you can travel forward in time with it, and talk to people who aren't born yet. An Apple spokesperson confirmed late yesterday, the entry level 64 Yottabyte model will be capable of traveling into the future by 4096 yrs, without processor pent-ampi-plexing, or dual-loop re-gress trans pro-vectoring, and the specs go up from there.

Industry insiders have met Apple's new hardware with luke-warm responses varying from "meh, they've lost their way" to "Tim has to go now", and one insider even remarking "their asses can't innovate anymore".

I have a feeling this will be more of an iOS7 part 2 media event than anything. Otherwise, with the 5S rumors amounting to little more than a fingerprint scanner and dual LED flash, this is shaping up to be the most lackluster iPhone launch yet.

I would LOOOVE a Haswell rMBP announcement

I am confused. How can Apple call it the next gen iPhone when its simply last years model. Hucksters!!!

Except that it isn't. Same external design does not necessarily mean same generation. I am not a big fun of S models but I would be naive to think they are all same gen as their previous one.

Let me get the trollish Android lot comments out of the way:
"Meh, the iPhone 5S is the same as the 5"

"The XXXXX phone had this feature 3 years ago"

"That's another thing they have copied from Android"

"Overpriced garbage"

"iSheep go baaa!"

"Where's the SD card slot and removable battery?"

"Lol it hasn't got quad core"

"Safari feels sna..." Oh wait, wrong bunch, sorry ;)

You forgot to mention flash ;)

nope. his data is 100% reliable -- he knows because they told him. so when he confirms it, it's a fact. not so with you.

You are not reading my post carefully, I said last time he actually TALK about a rumor he was wrong. His confirmation answers of Yep/Nope have not failed lately AFAIK, but anyone atm he says them can prob. figure it out themselves.

I hope they do introduce a retina iPad mini; will solve my Christmas gift problem for the four of my five grandchildren that are old enough for them!

I will get the 5S just for the camera; everything else is just a bonus. What's wrong with incremental change? If you've had the iPhones since the beginning you can really see how much the device has been improved. IOS 7 looks to be superb.

And my present for myself is one of the new Mac Pros. I think the whole concept is brilliant. Should be a great end of year!

but the price you're paying for the new phone isn't incremental :D

I guess you don't understand hardware and just like eye candy.

Really? Really? I've been "understanding" hardware since 386 PCs. Don't get butt hurt with a minor wording to describe the incremental increase in performance. Yes, I noticed a good jump from 3G to 3Gs, and it was well need. So was 4 - 4s, although less noticeable. I would still use minor to describe mid-generation refreshes. Going from iPhone 3G to iPhone 4 would be a huge increase.

yes really, you consider the eye candy (meaning the outside) not the insides a bigger update. The 'S' versions are actually closer in everything except the outside to the next gen than the older gen. For example an owner of a 3GS didn't really have to upgrade to a 4 unless they wanted a better display and a smaller speed bump than the big one from the 3G to the 3GS.
Its like saying that haswell mba are just a small upgrade from the prev gen of mba.

Curious what else will be unveiled or released at this event.

-iPhone 5C
-iPhone 5S
-new rMBPs
-iOS 7

Then we have an Oct/Nov event with:

-new retina iPad mini
-new iPad
-iPods?
-Mac Pro
-OS X Mavericks

Sorry brau, but speed bumps and new colors /= innovation.

How about a new device we didn't even know we needed or re-inventing a device we used sparsely to something we use daily. Devise ways to improve our everyday lives we haven't foreseen or even imagined, now all that would be innovation.

? What are you talking about.....my signature?

Do you even know what that quote was referring to? Troll harder.....

And what is the 5S going to offer? NO ONE knows anything for certain.

It is probably way too soon and a little much to ask, but it would be great if they upgraded the rest of their line this fall with the 802.11ac radio. AppleTV and the other Macs could use the bump now that beamforming requires both devices to have ac.
