If the iPhone 13 Mini gets a price cut, I may consider replacing my iPhone 12 Mini with it, if anything to get a fresh battery.

With trade-in offers it may end up being very little out of pocket as well.

The big question is whether I want to stick with blue or get green instead. Wish the purple color from the iPhone 12 was offered.
Same boat. My Blue 12 mini is now at 86% and struggles some days. I would have already upgraded to the 13 mini if they would have offered it in the mid-refresh 12 Purple.

I’m guessing iPhone Mini owners will “look out” for disappointment and will be saving some coin this year. I don’t blame them and think it’s a shame they’re taking the Mini’s out of the lineup.

I’ve used one, and even though it’s not for me as a DailyOS, if I had the extra cash I’d own one to carry on certain occasions just because of the size.

Banking on them keeping the 13 mini in the lineup and dropping it by $100 so i can upgrade my 12 mini. Fingers crossed.
Me too! I was considering upgrading from the 12 mini to the 14 Pro just because my battery is dying (86% healthy already) and because of the camera... But after having the iPhone 13 in my hands it was a no-go, the small size makes a huge difference.

I'm pretty sure they will keep the 13 as the mini option, although I really really hope they come up at the end with a 14 mini :/

Meh, my 12 Mini will be fine for at least 3-4 years. We will see then.

Imo the yearly launches make no sense anymore

PS: Battery on the 12 mini is absolutely fine, and seems to last longer than my X

RIP! iPhone Mini will be missed.

I remember when Apple was so excited when they first announced iPhone Mini. It's too bad it did not live up to the hype.
I do think it did live upto the hype. Pretty much everyone who actually uses their mini (and not reviewers who only used it for a short period of time) absolutely love it. On Reddit and owners groups mini owners love it (battery ain’t great, but the typical mini buyer isn’t likely a heavy phone user or it’s sufficient), it seems articles online about the mini not being good seem to just have something against it. Also, when it was reported the mini wasn’t doing so well.. I do think that Apple knew it would be one of their less popular phones of that year and probably adjusted their purchase orders appropriately.

... As it is modeled after the iPhone 8 and prior iPhone SE, the 2022 iPhone SE continues to feature thick top and bottom display bezels. ...
With all due respect, wouldn't it be more accurate to describe the SE as being modeled after the iPhone 6? Certainly much of the internals have been overhauled, but externally it's still almost identical to Apple's definitive departure from actual small phones and their very first foray into what used to be considered "phablet" territory... which makes the design language of the current SE almost eight years old, at this point.

iPhone Technician here.. we have seen an uptick in battery related issues with the 12 & 13 mini. Due to the small foot print od the mini's battery, it requires charging more frequently with normal use from an average user. Our clients in sales can not use the mini for work calls. The iPhone 12 Mini's battery cycle count is already beyond it's usable lifespan (~500 cycles) which is unusual for 2 yeara. The 13 mini's battery is better, but we see battery health degrading faster than the their low cost predecessors (SE 2020, SE 2022, iPhone Xr & iPhone 11)

Interesting, I've had my 13 mini almost 5 months and my battery health is still at 100%.

I'm a huge fan of my 12 Mini (also have a 13 Mini as a burner with a number nobody except God knows) and was mildly depressed when the size form was discontinued. But the 13 Mini is still a beast and I bet it sticks around for another year till the next SE takes over.

Oh, and my 13 Mini is still at 100% battery integrity.

Why does it HAVE to be Purple? The 13 mini in Green is beautiful.
Doesn't have to be. Green is actually my favorite color generally, but that 12 purple was just fantastic. It would have made me jump on the upgrade path earlier. I probably will end up getting the 13 mini in the Green as I do like that better than the Blue (and I liked the 12 Blue better which is what I have).

I had Iphone 13pro and chose to downgrade to 13 mini, I can't go back to that size and weight. I will absolutely not do an SE .

Really if in 3 years Apple didn't release an update I'm using my 13 mini until it dies and then switches to another brand
It's madness what Apple is doing with their size and weight, they forgot it's a phone not a tablet.

If the Mini is truly dead then here's hoping for an iPhone 13 mini price drop once the 14's come out. I'll gladly pick one up.

I’m still clinging to my 4” SE1, the ideal size and form factor IMO. I’ve been replacing the battery so it keeps chugging along and is doing fine. I wonder how long I can go! It won’t get iOS 16 reportedly, which is a little sad as there are some new features I’d like, but if getting a bigger phone is the only way to get them, then that’s a hard pass (as long as I have a choice).

When I eventually do have to move on from my SE1 (most likely it will be because of an essential app that is no longer supported 😠), and assuming rumors are true that there will be no 14 Mini and the next SE will be bigger, then it will be between a 13 Mini and the current 4.7” SE. Obviously since these phones will already be a begrudging compromise as they are significantly larger than the SE1, I’m definitely not going to an even bigger model. Between the two, the Mini has the better camera, larger storage, better radios (gigabit LTE and UWB, but not sure how much I’d need those), and ever so slightly smaller overall dimensions and flat edges (which I prefer) over the SE, but SE has bezels (which I prefer), and Touch ID (which I extremely prefer). So for me it’s mainly the Mini’s camera and storage vs the SE’s Touch ID. Hard choice, but I don’t think I can not have Touch ID, so I’m leaning toward an SE.

I don’t think they’re discontinuing it simply due to poor sales. I think they’re discontinuing it because it cannibalized sales from higher end models.

Plus, I think for average consumers, the mini is a hard sell when the XR and 11 are larger and less expensive. Makes it feel like you’re paying more for less.

You seem to be contradicting yourself, as your first paragraph implies mini sells well, while the second that it does not?

What a weird article. Anyone with a 12 mini or 13 mini who really loves that form factor is best off just keeping their phone (what a concept!). How is that not mentioned at all? The 12 mini isn’t even 2 years old. Why do people HAVE to be looking out for something new?
Thank you for writing this.

There's got to be a new SE coming with significantly smaller bezels. There would be significant overlap.

I would not bet on it. Remember, SE is all about “reduce, reuse, recycle”, so no different chassis or anything. This does not out-rule the possibility of Apple bringing back 5.8” size in some form, however.

We shall see whether "no iPhone 14 Mini" and "no more Mini" are the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple kept the 13 Mini around to establish a Mini line that they could update every few years.

That could, in the long run, align with the SE line although the iPhone 11 chassis would make more sense for that.

Its funny when the first suggested option is "Consider the Next iPhone 14 Size Up".

Its a real shame if they stop making the Mini as everyone I know who has one, absolutely loves it. Its really nice to have the option of a small iPhone given the constant march towards larger screens on phones.
Yeah, like the 6.1" phone is suddenly going to be a good size when it was never small enough before.
