Ok so initial impressions: DAMN, THIS MINI IS AMAZING! It’s barely bigger than the 1st gen SE! But all screen.

The weight feels so good because I got tired of carrying around a brick (11 Pro Max) on a daily basis.

And the design. Wow. Wow wow wow. I hope Apple keeps making the 5.4” screen because this is perfect.

This is not the type of question to do a poll. The choices don’t even begin to cover what someone’s first impressions of a phone would be and the last two shouldn’t even be there.

So I love my new Mini. First timer with FaceID and the UI is very fast and slick.

However, compared to my 6S the Mini is noticeably dim. I looked up the specs, the 6S is supposed to be 550 nits versus 625 for the Mini. So something is wrong. I'll be making an appointment at the Apple store.

As an aside, I'm on Verizon. Read online that a 4G sim card should work fine. Doesn't and got a text from Verizon when I tried my old sim card. So I'm off to the Verizon store tomorrow to reprogram the 5G card that came with the Mini to my phone number. Pretty sure doing it online or via customer will result in an activation fee. I did make a trial phone call though - wifi calling! Worked fine.

Oh, and I find the speaker fine. I had two 6Ss two weeks ago and gave the better newer one to the system. So all I have now to compare is the 6S that plays at half the volume of the other one (a defect I'm sure). Of course the Mini does better than that.

Upgrading from my weathered 7. It’s almost the perfect size, but I wish it was a tiny bit wider, about as wide as the 7. The mini is a little hard to hold two-handed for typing.

I like it quite a bit. It reminds me a lot of my 5S. Going to have to get used to the narrower keyboard though. I do miss 3D Touch already when it comes to text selection. That was always so handy, but I have to get used to it at some point. This will be replacing my iPhone X.

The brightness is perfectly in line with what I observed today. I looked at three different Mini’s and they all seemed around 550 ish nits. Tom’s guide tested the 12 Mini and they saw just over 500 nits. I know they list 625 nits but it’s definitely below that for the sake of its small 2227mAh li-ion.

Tapping on the display should wake it up, no need to push the power button.
Thanks, that will help a lot of the time, though not always (e.g. with gloves on just checking lock screen notifications).

I upgraded to a white iPhone 12 mini today from my 2016 iPhone SE. Before that, I had a 5S -- so I had been on the same design for 7 years!

Overall, I think the mini is great. I had been waiting so long to have an iPhone X style device in the form factor of the iPhone 5, and we got that, flat sides and all. I'm amazed by how much better the camera and screen are. And the speed and battery life are so much better than on my aging phone.

It's a little bigger than I would have liked -- it's funny that that wasn't an option in the poll for this thread. It's also funny to read all of these people amazed at how small it is -- from my perspective, this is a big jump in screen size. I could go a bit smaller -- I personally would like a 4.7" inch screen.

I do not like that the white and silver color on this model is a warmer tone. It looks almost like a gold band in certain lighting. I would have preferred a pure white/silver. I am debating switching it for the blue, which was my other front runner. I ruled out black because of fingerprints. Red was too extreme of a color in store. Green was OK. (I saw them all in person today.)

The 5G antenna cutout on the side is an eyesore and takes away from the design. I do not care about 5G and would rather they have left it out.

Overall I'm quite happy. :)
