Oh Yes, a Tetris and song quiz game box will be such an XBOX 360 killer.
Why does it have to be an XBox killer? Look at how much money apple have made from the App store already. The iPhone and Touch aren't killing of the DS or PSP but are profitable revenue streams. Apple are doing well with movies, TV shows, music, and now apps with their foray into gaming. If it continues to be profitable for them why would muscling in/expanding distribution of other digital content seem that far-fetched?

The most innovative phone is history also doesn't compete with most phones due to the price. They are in two different markets IMHO.

And they wouldn't be able to text photos, since by the time this is released, MMS would only be available on the regular iPhone. :p

OK they could have txt sex. Anyways, I don't see why Apple would want to get into that market.

Maybe to phase out the iPods? Or maybe because they would make money off it?

Man you watch to much Boston Legal. :D

You could have txt sex on most...no scratch that ALL phones today.

what your point.

I'm saying that the phone would be targeted at the market that is comprised of preteen wannabe diva b*tch*s.

Why would they want to phase out their most profitable product? And I know I do.

I'm sorry but I'm just not feeling this argument. I think its a cool idea, thats not practical. Getting into preteen diva wannabees is just dumb :p

I heard somewhere that they are not going to phase ut the iPod, just the click wheel.

I don't think i'd like that.

Because they are pushing for the iPhones to take over. The people who buy the iPods also buy cell phones. Why not get a phone and an iPod for cheaper than the price of a regular nano (if it was in the $99 price range). Face it, not everyone wants to spend money on a smart phone. A regular phone from Apple would make perfect sense.

BTW: I watch Boston Legal as well. Love the show, wish it wouldn't have gone off air.

But there are still are people who don't want to/can't pay for a $40+ phone bill each month.

I'm really ticked at ABC for pulling BL. I hope that their new reality BS fails miserably. Hopefully NBC or another network will pick up a spinoff.

Hello world,

The iPhone nano. It is just a rumor for now, and I know a lot of you hate it already (I can't see why!), but pause for a second, and consider the oppurtunities apple could open up IF they released it.

Steve first conquered the HDD mp3 player market with iPod - then he conquered flash territory with the Mini. Now apple have had enough success in the smart phone market with the iPhone, a venture into the "Dumb" phone market seems viable.

For example, imagine the countless teens and children who would want a cut down version of the iPhone if released. If it was cheaper, it would almost certainly sell like hot cakes instantly.

It could include the following apps:
- iPod
- SMS
- Phone (duh)
-Camera
-Photos
-Calc.
-Notes
-Settings

Why these? Well, for starters, a cut down version of the iPhone wouldn't need 3G - there just wouldn't be any point. No internet - no data plan, cheaper for kids, moms, non business folk.

Like another user stated before, the combo of a touch screen ipod and a simple phone would be enough to settle the deal for most "casual" people, who dont need the internet on the go. My mom has an iPhone 3G - but she has never used the browser on it - she didn't even know what Safari was!

As for the device itself - make it in funky colors - green, pink, blue red etc. and the Nano crowd would instantly jump to it.

Oh and the keyboard problem - well, if all of the apps which required the keyboard could run in landscape mode, the problem is cured slightly.

Software - no app store, no itunes. The software is a modified version of the iPhone OS, albeit cut down - more of a baby BABY version of OSX!

Pricing? £50 for a 4GB on a £15 a month, or £150 for a pay and go version. 4GB seems about right - probably cheaper to manufacture.

Anyhows, you'll probably flame my comments here, but I am one of the few who would LIKE to see an iPhone Nano released!

I like your thought on this..... but I think it will have all the apps that the iPhone 3G has and will only have Wifi.... like you pointed out... internet, but not for on-the-go

It makes so much sense for the maker of the most innovative cell phone in history to make a dumbed down version of it for preteen wannabe divas, who text obscene pictures to there 10 year old "boyfriends".

Don

 If the phone sells and makes Apple money, then yes, it does make sense. Sounds like your "reasoning" is based on emotion, and you think Apple products should only be sold to those who "deserve" to own them.

Do you get angry when you see stupid kids with iPods, too?

Although I am not totally against the nano idea, I don't think it's practical to make a "cheaper" version when the user would have to pay $30 a month for data. People who can pay $30 extra a month aren't looking for a cheaper phone. If you can't afford a regular iphone, you can't afford one that is $150 cheaper if you still pay for data.

I would be surprised if the nano had a "no data" option, making it even cheaper. Maybe some would like it simply because it is smaller, but the iphone's size has not been a common complaint anyway

But there are still are people who don't want to/can't pay for a $40+ phone bill each month.

Ok, I get that. But if it was just texting and phone, it would be the cheapest plan that all the other phones have.

Also, come to think of it, I doubt they will phase out iPods for the reason that not everyone wants a phone bill.

I'm really ticked at ABC for pulling BL. I hope that their new reality BS fails miserably. Hopefully NBC or another network will pick up a spinoff.

Boston Legal was such a good show! I was really disappointed to see them pull it. I wonder why the got rid of it. All the new shows on ABC and NBC suck anyway.

It's still a monthly fee, which doesn't exist with iPods.

They pulled because it didn't have the best ratings, and because advertisers didn't like that it targeted an older audience, Which is BS because I'm only 14 and I love that show.

Yea my Mom actually watched the show which got me into it. So if it's enough humor for the 14 and 15 year olds of this world, why can't everyone watch it? But that's enough off topic discussion for this thread!

Anyway, I'm interested to see where Apple is going with the new product lines. Seems like they are starting to mix it up.

The iPhone Nano could always be for those of us with no need to compensate for anything.

:)

Seriously, people who keep posting these stupid threads about the "iPhone Nano" are just setting themselves up for trouble.

Attention seekers perhaps?

Just chill and wait for Macworld.

OMG!!!! I just found this leaked photo!!!!!:eek::eek:

 Most of the people I've seen advocating for an iPhone Nano are suggesting a smaller device without a full web browser... why would they need data?

I agree, a device that is essentially a smaller iPhone would a) not accomplish anything, and b) cost more than a regular iPhone. I envision an iPod Nano-based iPhone, with limited data capability (mobile browser) and no mandatory data plan...
