Because if you point out an advantage that you find benefited you, then maybe it will benefit me as well.

When you don't ask for an opinion, it's not good.
When you DO ask for an opinion, it still isn't good.

I'm not making a judgement. I just don't understand. I can't imagine asking a stranger what phone I should own. I hope you get the info you need to figure out what you want to do.

Simple....Just get the Nokia since its free and try it out, it may turn out that you love it and you dont miss iOS integration....Or it might turn out you hate it and want to come back to iOS, if that happens then you would have lost $0. Then you can sell the Nokia and put that towards the purchase of an iPhone.

It's a no brainer really.

What's so hard to understand? His question could be akin to, should I go to paris or london? I can go to london for free but I have already been there but haven't seen everything, should I pay $800 to visit paris?

Or would you think it is stupid to ask for advice to that question too?

Youre coming to macrumors and asking if you should have the Nokia or the iPhone. That pretty much speaks for itself.

Id recommend iPhone.

Obviously take the Nokia and actually use WP daily. It won't take you long to come back to iOS when a lot of your daily most used apps don't exists or they lack the same functionality as the android or iOS version.

Like you I also got a free Lumia and actually tried to like it for a couple months. WP8 will be better as some more main app developers will come to the platform but there are so few users that they don't continue to develop and leave stale or dead apps. Spotify is one huge example.

Haha is question is closer to I can go to London for free and have never been there or I can go to Paris for £800 but I have seen it all before. He's going to be paying money for the phone he is already used to!

I must be missing something though because I don't understand why he isn't getting the free Lumia and then selling it to buy the iPhone.

I think the reason people are questioning your question is because clearly this is a biased forum. It is a Mac forum after all. So opinions will likely be skewed, which isn't the best way to help evaluate your choice.

I have a chance to get a free Nokia 920 with Windows 8 (when it comes out) or buy an iPhone 5 now.

IMO, the iPhone has become bland, and the issues with scratching and Maps haven't helped the case. It is really not worth shelling out $800+ for an unlocked 32GB. Obviously you can't beat free, plus I think the Nokia is sexy.

On the other hand, I use a Mac, iTunes, iCloud, iMessage etc. and everything is integrated. Giving up the back-end will be hard.

What are your thoughts?

It sounds like you are trying to talk yourself into getting the Nokia. I really don't understand how you can compare the two and I would always take an iPhone but free is nice too.

Yes. Have you ever decided where to go by asking a stranger?

Sorry, I'm missing something

you want free nokia...then go for it. Wouldn't jump to a nokia based on the 'issues' that have been reported with the iPhone5.

Make your own decision.

I returned my iPhone 5 and I'm buying a 920 ASAP. I hope I love it. It looks amazing. If I don't then I MIGHT try a new Nexus device but that's feeling unlikely. So basically if the 920 doesn't prove to be as amazing as it looks (Windows 8 would be the problem) then I'm back to iPhone 5.

My questions is can you "return" this "free" phone? If so then get it and if you don't like it get iPhone 5.

No harm in trying the 920, if u dont like it u can sell it and get a 5. Windows 8 mobile looks good to , alot more pleasing to the eye than ios and andoid in my opinion, plus it doesnt look like a cheap knock off of ios unlike android

It seem that you already made up your mind though with the Lumia 920. I know this isn't one of your choices, but if I were to get a WP8 phone, I'd get the HTC WP8X simply because of the weight. After using my iPhone 5, I really like the lightness and in comparison, the Lumia 920 is just a beast at over 180 grams.

This is a good point. I hope I can get used to the weight because Nokia has so many more exclusive stand out features than HTC.

This boils down to;
Is an iP5 worth ~$800 more than a lumina. I can't flip a coin to decide
TBH. if it's totally free, I dn't see why anyone would say no. You can just get the iPhone regardless. (Of course; there's the possibility of other costs besides money...).
Even if it wasn't, I couldn't say the iP5 is worth a $800 premium. Yes, I'd pay a little more for the iPhone, but not that much.

Other issues are moot. Scratching? They're both coated, and Nokia doesn't have a good track record for durable finishes! Apps? As long as you can find what you need on both platforms, that's fine.

Like everyone else; I'd get the Lumia regardless and flog it; that new, you should get a couple hundred for it to offset the cost of the iP5.
