Get the Nokia! That thing is amazing. And I mean.. for free, it's even better. I'd say the Nokia is worth it even at its TBA high unsubsidized price. Just like I believe the Galaxy SIII is worth its price as well.

I have a chance to get a free Nokia 920 with Windows 8......Giving up the (Mac) back-end will be hard.

I've been happily using Windows Phone 7. My shiny HTC came with 7.0.7004.0, then I upgraded to 7.00.07392.03, then to 7.10.07720.03, then to 7.10.07720.68 (allegedly Mango 7.5?), then to 7.10.07740.03 then to 7.10.07740.16 then to 7.10.8107.79 and I think I'm now running on 7.10.8773.98. I'm actually not sure if it is running Tango 7.8 yet?, probably not!

All this updating was done using Windows Phone Connector available for $0.00 from the Mac App store. Current version is 2.02 and it syncs the Windows Phone with iTunes and iPhoto. Runs on a Mac!

Summing up the thread, get the free Nokia (whilst they still exist as a company!) enjoy Windows Phone (upgrading) from your Mac back-end, and buy an iPhone 5 or 5S later when you've had enough Microsoft fun.

My 11 year old daughter is delighted with my HTC Win7something as a hand-me down whilst I have a White iP5/32GB to play with...

(p.s. I recommended Nokia Win710 Lumia to a mate who just wanted a cheap smartphone to make calls with - with occasional Map use - after 6 months his audio has crapped-out - fuzzy even with an external mic - people can't understand a word he says on the phone. Series fault. Will be replaced under warranty. I feel embarrassed having recommended a Nokia, so I offer NO recommendations in this mail - just experiences)

For me the Apple ecosystem is really more then just the hardware. I would wait for the W8 to mature before jumping in.

Precicsely, you'd likely get a bit frustrated, at least at first with the lack of easy integration with the ecosystem.

I have a chance to get a free Nokia 920 with Windows 8 (when it comes out) or buy an iPhone 5 now.

IMO, the iPhone has become bland, and the issues with scratching and Maps haven't helped the case. It is really not worth shelling out $800+ for an unlocked 32GB. Obviously you can't beat free, plus I think the Nokia is sexy.

On the other hand, I use a Mac, iTunes, iCloud, iMessage etc. and everything is integrated. Giving up the back-end will be hard.

What are your thoughts?

Nokia wihout a doubt, the iphone might be a bit better in some cases but nothing worth 800$ .

Other issues are moot. Scratching? They're both coated, and Nokia doesn't have a good track record for durable finishes!

Actually Nokia claims that the color on their phones go all the way through. They are not just coated. Therefore if you scratch it, it won't be a white scratch or anything. It will be the same color and the scratch will be less noticeable.

I have a Nokia Lumia 800 as a second phone to my iPhone 5. I do like the WP 7.5 interface and much prefer it to Android which is simply a mess. The Lumia 800 is, like the upcoming 920, way too chunky for a 2012 smartphone. But cosmetics aside, biggest problem with Windows Phones (at the present) is their app store. I have yet to find a decent Runmeter/Runkeeper/Nike+ Running app that actually works on the Lumia without losing GPS connection on its own every 5 seconds. There simply isn't enough good content in the store and I think you'll have a nice looking phone with core features that work well but nothing to add to that experience.

Ultimately, the choice is about what use you will get from either phone rather than its looks. Get what will DO the most for you rather than what looks nice. After all, most of the time it will be in your pocket, right?
