all you have to do is open up the email and on the line below the subject line click 'mark as unread' and it will be unread for you :)

you can do this in 3.0 too though.

I guess I never clicked on the details link in any e-mail I open. Thanks.

Try holding the unit horizontally first of all to select landscape mode, then point the dock connector at the ceiling and the screen should remain in landscape mode, allowing you to view it properly when lying on your side.

Ahh, now I get it. I was trying to do a 180˚ turn instead of 90˚. Another way to describe this is the screen will do portrait, landscape left, and landscape right, but not upside down (aside from photos app did that last time I checked). Would still like to lock portrait mode for sms but this is definately better than nothing. Thanks for clarifying

Like, how is Microsoft coming out with a Zune HD negative?

One, because it's yet another "Me Too" product from Microsoft, and two, because this is MacRumors. Anti-Apple trolls have their own websites to comment on. Like...Engadget.

Percentage gauges are worthless. I can use my 2G phone most of the day with no problem, until I get the "20% battery left" message. 10 minutes later I'm getting "10% battery left" and after another 10 minutes I'm dead.

So essentially 20% of the battery lasts 20 minutes and the other 80% lasts...6 hours???

Things that make you go "Hmm..."

Regardless of what the meter says, my battery can be drained after 4-5 hours of normal use. In 2 weeks I have never gone more than 1 day without having to charge. Going a full day means very light use.

Hurray for bluetooth voice control. I was very surprised that it didn't have it to start, but it's good to see the feature making its way into my iPhone quickly.

Not if you own the 1st generation or 3G. Voice Control is a feature paired with the 3GS only ...

I'm not very impressed that it's taken three generations of iPhone and an update to do what any crappy flip phone could do years ago!

Congratulations, 3GS owners! At least YOU are remembered.

Does anyone know if 3.1 Fixes the yellow tinted screen that many iPhone 3gs users are complaining about. My phone has a yellowish tint towards the bottom of the screen and was hoping that with this update they address the issue. Anyone?

i would like facebook to allow video uploads aswell, i don't care for using youtube too much and would rather my closer friends see vids i upload.

For now, you can upload to Youtube and they can be AUTOMATICALLY be cross-posted to FB. You just have to link the two accounts.

I am keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that AT&T will unlock MMS when 3.1 goes public. I think AT&T looks more and more pathetic each day MMS is not available on iPhone. If I were a customer with another provider and considering a new provider, just reading some of the posts in these forums would keep me from picking AT&T.

There are so many features that iPhone users are crying out loud for:

Bluetooth syncing, a bluetooth external keyboard, ability to attach files to any email, ability to turn off landscape mode, multitasking, Flash, List view and categories for the home page, better implementation of multiple mailboxes, auto suggest that only accepts with a click, sync todo lists, ability to customize the lock screen, ability to flag emails, list docs as well as apps, no limit on number of apps, faster backup syncing, removable battery, removable media, front facing camera, print via wifi, wake up alarm, call recording, snooze calender reminders, mark all emails read, scroll bar or up down arrows for those tired of swiping swiping swiping.

And what do we get?

"phone vibrates when rearranging Home screen icons!"

Who thinks this stuff up?

Haven't seen this talked about so it might not be a concern to most but it is driving me crazy that I can't 'shake' to change songs when listening to music and the iPhone is in standby mode. Why would I even want to shake it after going through all the trouble of reopening the iPod control? Now that I had to reopen it to activate shake, I can just push the 'next' arrow since it's staring at me. If this ever comes to light, a sensitivity control would be nice as well. The only way that I can make this work the way I want now is to remove autolock and keep the iPod open at all times but that doesn't do much for battery life. Anyone else?

Does OS 3.1 still have the useless landscape call bar, or is my iPhone 3GS on 3.0 at fault?

Damn...2 hours use and I'm at 58%. Started at 97%. Are you using a 3GS?

Yes. 3Gs. Prior, i was experiencing atrocious battery drain with the 3.0 on thie very same 3GS

Like I said, prior to upgrading, I was not getting very good battery usage at all. 50% by 4-6 hours. Now it was 85-90% by that time.

How about an option to disable auto-tilt to landscape when in mail and text message. That is so freaking annoying.

Maybe not just for those apps but for all apps. Just have a general toggle in settings called "Enable auto-tilt" or something. Sometimes when I'm laying down on my side I hate it going to landscape!

I'm on 3.1 and at 45% after 3 hours use. Hope my next battery is better.

*mind you this is better than on 3.0

85% by 4-6 hours? Really? After just 4 hours (of constant Internet use), my battery is pretty close to dead (let alone 50%!).

can anyone predict when this will be released ? how long after the developer release was the other update for 2.0?

was wondering as dev teams wont release 3gs jailbreak until after this

You have been able to toggle read/unread since day one..... It's a little blue dot on each email.

Ok....why even bother than to comment on just one item? Also, there is no way to select multiple messages and do this. It is weird that people feel the need to comment on other folk's workflow.

- Spotlight searches emails.
- New email update on icon? It has a new message count badge on the icon. What do you want?
- Mark as read/unread... works.

- Dial from event... can you not click a phone number and get the option to dial? I'm surprised this doesn't work.
- sync from Exchange... look here, duh

No, you can't dial from the calendar, try it out, you can't do anything in the calendar. And do you have an exchange account? My notes DO NOT SYNC, nor do i think they sync with anyone running exchange to get their emails. Calendar, email and contacts, but no notes.

I don't know about you, but in my work emails, subjects aren't something i want to retype just to search as well as some last names. I would like integration into the application itself so that emails selected i could search by subject, sender etc. I am not talking about searching emails between my buddies and other simple stuff like that. Also, seeing as you can already select multiple emails for moving etc, why not allow you to mark them as new as well?

To me the new email number isn't a really functional metric. When i am out of the office i don't normally keep a running tally of how many emails i haven't opened yet, and being someone who gets about 200-300 emails a day, this doesn't work for me. I would like to see something that indicates new emails since the last time i opened my mail app.

If you are talking about iCal, you can dial a number directly from the note field. I just tried it.
