My wish list:

1. Ability to snooze calendar events
2. Ability to use badges instead of pop up notifications per app or across the board (I don't like having to acknowledge the notification before I can do anything on the phone)
3. Disable landscape mode across the board or per app (mainly coverflow)
4. Fix the distortion coming from 3GS speakers (I have seen this on many 3GS phones, including floor models at Apple stores)
5. Ability to mark e-mails as either unread or read.
6. Destroy all competing iPhone "killers" via EMP

I recall them saying that now companies can use the dock connector for accessories. It would be nice if someone designs a game controller of sorts. DOOM Resurrection looks great, but the on-rail design shows the problem of having no hard controller of some sort.

What I want to see is group texting from groups in the contact apps... And also I want the cal have birthday subscription on iPhone with reminders. After that I can't think of anymore features

Landscape keyboard

I'm trying that right now and it's not working. I tried both twisting it to the right, then twist 180 and also twist to right and flip it so I'm looking at the back of the phone. Neither way locks it in any position.

Definitely works for me. I have both generations of iPod touch... 2G running OS 3.0 and 1G running OS 2.2 - works on both.

Try holding the unit horizontally first of all to select landscape mode, then point the dock connector at the ceiling and the screen should remain in landscape mode, allowing you to view it properly when lying on your side.

I assume that this will work with the iPhone as well, but I only have the iPod touches to try it on at the moment. I'll try it with a 3GS later today!

Yes, I understand a lot of people wanted this and glad they have it, but when I'm laying down trying to write a text message or read email it is such a pain when it switches over to landscape.

I wonder if there could be a way of adjusting the sensitivity for the tilt to kick in - after all it would only be like adjusting the calibration (may be 'appen?!)

Sound Profiles

The majority of my proposed updates are for work related functions. To me the iPhone is still lacking in some aspects from taking the next step and replacing my workhorse BB.

i would like to see more customization of the sounds played back for different events IE text, email, calendar, etc. I also would like to see more robust email features
Email
- Sort by sender
- Sort by subject
- Search for
- New email update on icon
- Mark as read/unread
- Different signature for each email or the ability to toggle signature on/off per account.

Calendar
- Dial from event! this is a huge missing element for all us telecommuters

Notes
- Sync already from exchange, enough already.

Phone call
- Turn the vibrate switch into the mute button. One a long conference call when i am multitasking i would rather have the phone lock and be able to toggle mute on/off with the only button on the device than have it switch between vibrate on/off

I know, it took me about a week to find this feature.

But Apple should have a vertical only mode, where the only things that go horizontal are videos. I would use that almost every night! It would more or less turn off the accelerometer.

It could be called 'half asleep' mode, where it would play soft and soothing music. Filling the void between sleep and wake modes

okay, I may have gone a bit overboard there... but the ability to shut off the accelerometer would be nice.

Yeah, it would be good to disable Cover Flow when using the iPod on the go...

You have been able to toggle read/unread since day one..... It's a little blue dot on each email.

1. See birthday subscription in cal app
2. Send group text messages from groups in contacts

Yes that blue dot marks a message as unread and changes once you've read it, but how do you change it back? I have a corporate inbox that several people attach to and when e-mails come in and I read it, of course the blue dot disappears. How do other people who have access to that inbox know a new message is in if it's already read? That's why I want the ability to mark it as unread again.

- Spotlight searches emails.
- New email update on icon? It has a new message count badge on the icon. What do you want?
- Mark as read/unread... works.

- Dial from event... can you not click a phone number and get the option to dial? I'm surprised this doesn't work.
- sync from Exchange... look here, duh

Ambient light sensors.

How about they get those freaking ambient light sensors working right.. I've had all 3 iphones and i still get blinded at 2AM..

And I have restarted it. Maybe im lucky? I dunno. I have bluetooth, wifi, 3g and the GPS all on and its still 90%.

Percentage gauges are worthless. I can use my 2G phone most of the day with no problem, until I get the "20% battery left" message. 10 minutes later I'm getting "10% battery left" and after another 10 minutes I'm dead.

So essentially 20% of the battery lasts 20 minutes and the other 80% lasts...6 hours???

Things that make you go "Hmm..."

all you have to do is open up the email and on the line below the subject line click 'mark as unread' and it will be unread for you :)

you can do this in 3.0 too though.

Who marks this type of thing negative? Apple/iPhone haters?

They're here, in abundance. I've noticed a significant uptick in Apple-hating trolls in the MacRumors forums in recent months. Methinks the Redmond Astroturfing Machine is spooling up the FTL drives.

Yea, you'll get Apple haters and Apple fanboys here. Just like you would if there was a positive Microsoft story. Like, how is Microsoft coming out with a Zune HD negative?

"Hurray for bluetooth voice control. I was very surprised that it didn't have it to start, but it's good to see the feature making its way into my iPhone quickly."

Really?
You were surprised Apple rushed to release a product without implementing an industry standard feature?
This is what? Fool me thrice...four times? ;)
It's become par for the course for Apple. (That's not to say we should find it acceptable.)
