I think anyone that doesn't buy something but rather holds out for the next best thing is just missing out on the experience. Everything evolves, and everything you buy will be outdated/upgraded. But to hold out to buy a car until it can run on water means you will be walking or taking a bus for some time..............so walk, or have fun today. Life is short. Buy an iPad and enjoy it, then move on to the next thing when it comes around. But to wait for and predict the next version 2 days after its release just means you miss out on the fun and use of it, whatever "limited" capabilites it may have.

Doesn't the 3g model have GPS? I have read several places that it does, though it could be wrong. I just had a look at the tech specs on the Apple site and it has "Assisted GPS" listed for the 3g model. I would assume that would be off tower triangulation though. However, oddly enough, the tech specs for the iPhone 3GS also has GPS listed as "Assisted GPS".

In order from least desired to most desired you have cell tower triangulation, regular GPS, and then Assisted GPS. Assisted GPS is a combination of regular GPS and cell tower triangulation which gives a faster initial location or provides a location when there is no access to the satellite like when in a tunnel. In other words, the cell service "assists" the regular GPS when needed.

Not really funny and not really going to happen.

This summer they will release new iPhone hardware along with OS 4.0, for iPad too.

Wouldn't surprise me if they utilized battery tech in iPad for next iPhone. iPad battery output is 2.5x of iPhone's...

Isn't the battery tech the same, just more space for it in the iPad? I for one am very pleased with the iPads battery life. My son played with it non stop ALL day Saturday, and when I could get it from him I was on it the rest of the time. More than 10hrs staright I know.

All I have to say is the next iPod Touch and iPad BETTER HAVE BUILT-IN GPS!!!

It's unbelievable the just-released iPad does not have GPS. There are so many way-to-cool applications for GPS, and no, the wifi/cell tower triangulation garbage will not suffice.

mobile devices that are not portable gps generally have assisted gps rather that gps-only triangulation, just because they would be too slow without cell towers' help. And dedicated gps chips like tomtom's ones are too big/expensive to fit inside an iPad/iPhone/iPod touch.
that's because wifi only devices will never have gps.

I bet we won't see iPhone OS 4 until the Fall.

Maybe a preview in June or July or whenever WWDC is with the new iPhone.

But OS 4, I'm thinking not until Fall. Also.. that's when Windows Phone 7 comes out, isn't it?

Sometimes companies have a strange way of releasing updates or new products around the same time. I don't know if that's a coincidence or some kind of conspiracy theory, but who cares.

That's my guess lol

Don't you need a satellite for GPS service, and wouldn't the 3G iPads be able to do GPS?

My wish list for iPhone 4 & the OS isn't that long:

1. Allow you to save email attachments
2. Download from Safari
3. Following 1 & 2, access to the file system
4. Customization, if nothing more than just the wallpaper
5. Much better battery life

This would remove basically every reason I currently have for jailbreaking.

Wouldnt be surprised to see some sort of ipad pro with a camera, bigger screen and more advanced multitouch. Anyhow, I just want to see an updated iphone os with multitasking. Things are strangely quiet on that front.

Watch at&t fanboys' heads explode if the iPhone 3,2 or 3,3 are indeed for different carriers other than at&t...

There's really no other reasonable explanation...other than perhaps an iPhone nano, and I actually think an iPhone nano is less likely to happen than an iPhone broken free from at&t.

iProd ... :D

Ah, you'll only understand the long standing humour behind that name if you come from the West of Scotland or specifically Glasgow.

For many a year it's been the old joke than an iPod loaded with Rangers songs was called the "iProd".

Or the North of Ireland :>

Can't wait to see this new iPhone!

Buying everything you want *right now* is what started the whole credit crisis. It's fine if you're buying all your toys with cash, but I think most people want more than they can afford *right now*.

I wonder how long before the first iPad revision.

You know it's coming, and I wouldn't be surprised if it shows up in June or July. Just enough time past the establishment of the $499 price and people getting all the hype. Then there will be a camera and other bits added, probably more memory, etc. And a price higher, naturally.

I don't think i've ever heard of or seen an at&t fanboy.

Haha!! AT&T fanboys? Most people with iPhones hate AT&T!!

But thanks for giving me a good laugh! I didn't know wireless providers had fanboys...

Most people don't have unlimited funds to keep buying gadget after gadget, so they have to make wise decisions and get the most for the money they have. Sometimes, that means waiting for the second generation of a product.

Why would any AT&T iPhone customer really have an issue with another mobile operator picking up the iPhone? It would simply encourage competition and most likely lower prices for cellular service.

Plus, I don't know how many "AT&T fanboys" actually exist. The two biggest gripes of iPhone users are AT&T's network and the battery performance.

They don't. At least, not here in the United States.

If you look at the last Consumer Reports cellular operator survey, the respondents basically said they all sucked, but Verizon sucked slightly less (just barely above the threshold of statistical significance). That means that Verizon is a 37" giant in a kingdom of three-foot midgets.

The iPad 3G has GPS built in....

I wasn't aware it was new battery technology. I thought it was just two giant batteries wired in parallel...

The iPad uses lithium-polymer, and uses barely any energy.

The iPhone uses lithium-ion and I believe if the iPhone switches to the IPS, LED-backlit display similar to the iPad it will gain some battery life as well. I'm not sure it'll need IPS, but I'm thinking they'll use it because it's what is in the iPad already.
