Good point. I guess my solution is good only for those with 3GSs.

In OS 3.0 (and it still works on 3.1.3) to kill an app what you can do is hold the power button until the slide to turn off sign appears. Release the power button and hold the "home" button for 5 seconds. So that might be better than just waiting until the phone dies on its own right? I'm not sure if that way of killing apps still works on 4.0 though...

I had just thought of that and came to the forum to suggest that just now. I'd imagine it would work. Force quit still works the same way in previous versions.

Power cycling means turning it off then turning it back on rather than draining the battery out, btw.

Question

OK, so I want to upgrade from beta 1 to beta 3. The problem is that my SDK is on my iMac, while all my iPhone data is on my MacBook. This was never a problem until they required you restore your phone to install the next beta. So, to upgrade, do I just need to back-up my phone on my iMac, or do I also need all the data along with it (apps, videos, music)?

Thanks!

Install the SDK on your MacBook. No harm done...

Just tried this. I cause the problem to happen. Then I held down the power button till the slide to power off came up. Released the power and held down the home. After about 5 seconds the slide to power off disappears and goes back to the main app page. Did it work, did it reset the mail app? I don't know, but I know that when I hit the mail app it still had the problem. So I had to turn it off and start again. :(

Not sure if this has already been mentioned however it appears the controls to the left of the multitasking bar at the bottom control the audio in any App that is playing background audio.

You can see this below from audio playing in iTunes:

I hope they sort out the blocky shadowing around the App icon, it looks a bit messy.

I had yet to see this in any review or post, good find. It makes sense.

How odd. I did the exact same Force Quit on my 3GS, and it restored the bottom bar.

I wonder if the app icon changes so you can use those controls for apps like pandora? (once pandora is updated to take advantage of it)

I would say that's probably what will happen yes, I can see much more of a use for those buttons now.

Just found out that voice control on 4.0 comes with talking clock functionality. For example by asking Voice Control "What time is it" it will now tell you the exact time. :)

I had a really strange glitch yesterday. I am running beta 3 on my 3g. I had the Siri app opened and it became unresponsive so i closed it out. When i looked back down at my phone a few minutes later I noticed there was a red bar across the top that was flashing and it said siri much like when they demoed the skype at. It was really strange. The only way I could get it to go away was to restart my phone. Anyone else run into this?

But to use voice control don't you hold up the phone and talk into it? Can't you just read the time from the held up phone?

MMS doesn't seem to work properly with 4.0 Beta 3. When I send an MMS first the picture loads upside down, and then the people who receive says the pictures aren't coming through properly.

EDIT:
Okay, now some of the time it seems to be working properly.

*sigh* Beta's...

I cant get to any of my music. It says that I have no music on my phone even though i just synced 6500 songs (25GB). What gives?

I found that the problem seems to occur only when I attach in Messages.app. You can try attaching from Photos.app to ensure proper attachment rotations.

Sorry if this is a repeat but I just noticed the extra call info when a call is on hold:

You may be right. I'd never seen it before (doesn't mean much) and showed a couple of other 3GS owners that didn't recall it either. Of course, we didn't bother to check on their phones ;-)

Never mind, back to your regularly scheduled 4G speculation :)

Nope this has been like this for awhile. Here is a screenshot from my phone which is 3.1.3.

I just blurred out the name.

EDIT: after posting I did notice they changed the end call to just end.
