As a dev, I hope they release the beta sdk on the 8th.

Historically they have released it the same day as the previous, although it's possible they could be a little behind this time due to getting 3.2 ready for the iPad.

The scary question I am asking myself now is whether I will want to install a beta 4.0 firmware on my shiny new iPad

One thing makes me wonder...

If they are going to update the iPad with 4.0, why would they put so much effort into the 3.2 OS that's only going to be on the device for a few months? All the developers were scrambling around to get their apps ready for 3.2 before launch. It seems harsh to turn around and make them do it all over again for 4.0.

Remember, iPad owners only get version 4.0 for free, 5.x will be a paid upgrade. I was hoping we get 3.3-3.9.... Seems like more of a value.

Since they only do updates once a year, $10 for a new software upgrade once a year isn't going to break the bank.

ummm arnt they supposed to release the beta sdk before they release the OS update? they have done this in the past... I dont know if there is going to be an OS update.. I'll be suprised.

I think it was pretty much a timing issue. Apple felt like they needed to get the iPad out but 4.0 just was not ready. I wouldn't expect there to be any issue going from 3.2 to 4.0 unless devs take advantage of any new features.

Remember guys, lets not overhype things here :)

However, I think we're gonna see some serious refinement in this version and the Multi-tasking thing will be addressed.

I'm very excited to see!

There will be no release of the OS to the public at this event.

It will be in beta for a few months.

Just enjoy what it shows.

Well, I don't think that the 4.0 will be a major overahul. They have the basis for the iPad set (3.2) and they will probably implement some new features for 4.0.

I believe so :)

I think the new iPhones and this new OS will hopefully blow everyones mind and make the iPhone a much better phone than it is by updating it to beyond the others phones and OS that have flooded the market since the 3GS came out. At least I hope so because I am up for an upgrade.

Do you think they will mention the new hardware at all? Or will they only mention iPhone OS 4?

Exactly. 3.2 was their way of showing off some new things as a tease. The meat will be on Thursday.
