Wondering if it's possible that the iPad actually has this technology and that it'll be "activated" through iPhone OS 4.
It would be pretty sweet.

I reckon there will be a lot of happy campers who just bought their iPads, knowing that they'll get a (hopefully) free software update in June/July.

It feels like Apple have been holding back a tidal wave of new product info thats just about to hit us!

Apple won't be that dickish...

Then again there was the whole original iPhone price drop thing.

last year everyone was: "Cut/Copy/Paste",

this year it seems to be "Multi Tasking"...

If it's as elegant as most of their solutions, it will definitely be worth it..

I also agree with above, that they may change the OS name to reflect more devices rather than just iPhone OS... and the update will be universal across these devices (currently, iPhone and iPod Touch and iPhone)..

Hopefully they'll show a sneak at the next iPhone hardware, but may save that for later.

I wonder if Steve will have his iPad on him for the Keynote presentation ;)

Well that didn't take long

I seriously think that this refresh will give people less to complain about on the iPad.

I think they just wanted to get the iPad out there and selling and then tell them this update was coming.

I suspect we see multitasking and some sort of overhaul for push notifications, as they dont really make sense on the ipad.

Very excited about this.

WOW I am excited, this came out of nowhere really! :D I mean I knew it was coming, but this was a nice surprise right after the iPad launch!

I'm betting on.......

1. Limited Multi-Tasking

2. iBooks for the iPhone

3. Updated UI look to match iPad

Sounds GREAT to me! :D Pretty realistic too I think.

4. Better notifcation system and LockInfo style features.

Yes that too please!

Native printing, PLEASE

YESSSS, I think we have a good chance of this. I just hope it is not only for the iPad!

5. Loads of complaints on here about the things it doesn't include ;)

Haha, NO DOUBT!

5. Multiple user accounts

Really don't see a need for that!

P.S. Um Steve thanks for all this stuff, but about those Macs???

Hoping for a leaner OS. A Snow Leo redo of the entire OS is a must at this point. To many bugs from 1.x, 2.x and the 3.x series OS. Please Apple, make this a clean-up revision!

keep hoping

i've been following tech for almost 20 years and have never seen a newer version of any software ship with the same or lower system requirements as the previous version

surely in that presentation, refreshing the Macbook (Pro) line is a great candidate for a "one more thing" in the end, or warm-up in the beginning.

Doubtful that there will be a "one more thing." They haven't done that in a bit.

But I'd say an update to the line is this month.

There will be no release of the OS to the public at this event.

It will be in beta for a few months.

Just enjoy what it shows.

yeah I cant wait for it to show less than what I have done with my Jailbroken phone... its going to be amazing waste of time... the new OS for Iphone wont do half of what the Jailbroken Iphone can do.

If 4.0 has multitasking and comes to the iPad, what will the iPad haters have to whine about?

Sent from Mark's mini iPad.

Is there going to be a Keynote video we can all watch, as usual? Or is this more of a behind closed doors event?

Welcoming news.

Anything in which this new OS is going to make life easier, is always good. YouTube app needs an overhaul (iPhone/iPod Touch) IMHO.

The iPhone OS so far has no system requirements. However, Snow Leo shipped with the same requirements (except dropped PowerPC support) as Leopard.

I could see them changing the name to iOS since it now covers 3 devices.

Just what Apple needs... another run-in with Cisco over a registered trademark. I don't think Cisco would change their entire core operating system name this time, and I don't think iOS vs the trademarked IOS will fly.
