You do realize it's an ad framework for developers to use in their apps, like AdMob, right? There won't be any ads in Mail, iPod, during calls, etc.

Yep !

It's a way of pushing crap to end users & burning bandwidth. I realise that the usual justification of adding a revenue stream to support developers will be rolled out. But it doesn't mean I have to like it.

So the iPod touch 2G won't be able to do multitasking (understandable), Bluetooth keyboards (understandable, different Bluetooth spec?), but no custom wallpaper. The custom wallpaper was the one feature that I was looking forward to on my iPod touch 2G. There is no way this is a hardware dependent feature. It's more like a feature Apple wants to leave out to get folks to upgrade to an iPod touch 3G or newer. Lame.

2nd gen ipod touch

At last. Free for ipod touch users! I was hoping this day would come. Anyone want to speculate which features aswell as multitasking might be left out for 2nd generation ipod touch's?

heyy now dats not kool enough 4 ipod touch 2nd gen owners..i mean apple should really do something...we guyz wont get multitasking fyn...v dont mind....its kool..but the custom walpapers on the home screen should hav added...i was much xcited about that...n guess what...v guyz r not gettin it....common now apple june 21st is still far away...do something 4 uys!!!!plzzzzz

I can't quite see what you find funny about it, but "round 2" is long over already. Cisco has licensed its "IOS" trademark to Apple. None of the technology is licensed, which should be no problem for Apple as long as they don't want to go massively into the market for routers.

Yes. http://www.pcworld.com/article/198203/with_ios_apple_gets_the_ok_to_borrow_a_cisco_name.html

You do have to wonder how much that one cost. At my office, it left all of us dumbfounded when he called out IOS (though we're the server admins, all of our networking backbone is Cisco and some of us have dabbled in IOS before).

While I'm sick of iEverything and think it's tired, I do like iOS a lot better than iPhone OS. Much easier. Now they need to fix iTunes, iPhoto (which also handles videos...kind of), and Mac OS X, which still confuses people to this day a decade after its introduction.

Ladies and Gentleman I now present to you OS 10.7.

iOS is the future of Apple. Sad but true.

You do realize that iOS is based on OS X right? It's just OS X with a different interface that's tuned specifically for iPhone/iPad's touchscreen? Just like Mac OS X is tuned specifically for the desktop/laptop use?

I know that we're not allowed to post things for sale but my post count doesn't allow me to access the marketplace. I've been here for over two years now and figure it'd be better for me to just post this rather than spam the forums with useless posts to get my count up.

Sorry but don't agree with you. You need to either sell it elsewhere or wait till your post count is higher. Every one of us have the same limitation. I already reported you for spam, stop posting this.

praise the lord! for the first time we ipod touch user don't get ripped off by paying for a free (on the iphone) update!!!

that makes watching THE keynote even more fun: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FW-lrMXLBE

iOS was the name of a webtop (web-based desktop) that I invented. It is on version 5.0, and 1.0 was last year. Now I have to think of another name.

And I can't enjoy the fact that the update is free for iPod Touch users, because I have a 1st generation!

grrrr...

iOS for iPad

Yea watt about the iPad?

Ok, why have we suspiciously left out the iPad in this equation. I know iPad is pretty useless at the moment but it most definitely has the umpf to handle iOS 4 so why no mention?

hmm. really nothing much new about iOS 4. i was hoping they named it that b/c apple tv was gonna get it

i'd guess that it will at the media event this fall. just a hunch that its still not 'ready' yet. but it is a good idea.

I bet they're dropping the Phone part of the OS' name because they're preparing to kill off OSX hahaha.
