The wonder kid George Hotz (aka Geohot) has now managed to jailbreak the newly release iPhone OS 4 Beta as well. He is the second one, behind the iPhone Dev-Team to achieve this feat. The following picture was posted by him on his twitter account which showed blackra1n running on iPhone OS 4.

If it wasn't for him, I'd probably purchase an HTC Evo.. he's the main reason I'm still wanting the new iphone.

TS did say

Great news. Hadn't the DEV team done this a while back?

Hotz was 2nd behind dev-team hopefully apple doesn't lean the exploit before the official 4.0 is released. I'd guess that it's the same exploit in 3.1.3. Which is why they are not releasing 3.1.3 jb.

Yep. I appreciate the fact of them saving the exploit. Might be the last for a long time.

It's not the same exploit. :p Posixninja had a good blog post on this.

Apparently there was one exploit found before the userland exploit. They were prepared to release the userland exploit because it's not as big a deal as the real exploit. The post then went on to mention that GeoHot found a new exploit that blows the other two out of the water. Now they have to figure out what to do as far as releasing and waiting goes. :)

All good news really.

Any word about the release of 4.0? Last rumor I heard was June...any update or confirmation of that?

Also, today I mentioned on my twitter that I can almost guarantee an exploit for 3.1.3/3.2 (all devices, and all models!) before the end of the month. I would strongly advise everyone to keep a close eye on Geohot's blog for updates in the near future.

Made my day.

So there are 3 exploits? :):):):)

Nice

3 exploits are better then one! I will most likely wait for the Dev-teams version myself I just have the best luck with there programs both breaking and updating! Seems more solid and stable Dev-team and Hotz still talk they have just decided not to work together. So if Hotz exploit is so good I'm sure he will share it! :D 4.0 will be officially be released around WWDC about June 28th or when the new Iphone is released about the middle of July!

This is great news but I have a question:

If (when) the new iPhone hardware comes out will that be a problem for a jailbreak? Like the new boot ROM on the 3GS (that makes you have a tethered Jailbreak).

I really don't want the new hardware (and software) unless it can be jailbroken. I'm addiced to my JB now...

I dont think that will be an issue, I am pretty sure the jailbreaks that we have seen for 3.1.3 on 3gs use the new bootrom (that havent been released, but just shown on youtube and blogs)....but I guess apple could update the bootrom again with the 4.0 os...so Id wait to update until we know what we can and cant do after 4.0 comes out

4.0 Jailbreak... Check

4.0 Lockinfo functionality... ??

I'll not be updating until either it's discovered to be part of 4.0 natively or Lockinfo is updated to work with the new firmware.

everyone is talking about jb, but does that mean ul is also possible? i am on t-mo and would love to use os4 with ul... hope that is true.

Does it sound to anyone else like an exploit that "blows the other two out of the water" and makes both the userland and iBoot jailbreaks something to hold onto (presumably for the 4G) can only be a hardware-based exploit? Could we be on the verge of a completely-Pwned 3G/3GS?
