False, I know firsthand. I had a 3G, upgraded to a 3GS a few months ago. I was able to log in using my google acct (which is what was used originally to purchase some paid Cydia "apps"). I logged in using my google acct on the new phone and was able to download my purchases again.

The purchases aren't linked to the specific phone, they're linked to whatever account you originally purchase them with. I think google and facebook are the only two options, but I may be wrong. :)

you are wrong, there are various payment methods on cydia, ie. paypal, google checkout, amazon, etc.

Most purchases are tied to your device, not your purchasing account, so you won't be able to reinstall all of your paid cydia packages without first contacting the developer.

In your case you just got lucky and the dev only tied the purchase to your google account rather than your specific phone.

I'm gonna jump in here with a noob question that I am hoping is yes or no. I read the blog post on the previous page which says:

"And if you haven't already, PLEASE backup your SHSHs with either firmware umbrella or using Saurik method."

Following the link, I see (on Saurik's site):

"This point should be stressed: even if you don't jailbreak, and even if you never intend to jailbreak, you should consider using the new "on file" service."

The noob question: given that I am on a virgin 3.1.3 3GS, is it actually possible for me to do a SHSH backup to Saurik's server? i.e., is this backup something that you must already be JB'd to do? The sentence above seems to imply that you don't have to be. (I understand fully that my phone is not *currently* JB'able.)

Just want to know if it's possible, if so I will figure out the how. Given all the conflicting info out there, I'd love to have a yes/no on this before I start digging. Thanks.

WHOOOOOOOOAAAAAA! Crazy, check this out.....

:)

amazing what a little searching can do! ;)

So much for my conviction that I'd been doing a good job at lurking for the past few weeks. Sorry. ;)

Did any of the posts say a JB for 4.0 was released ?

All we can do is present the information, I guess we can't make them actually read the posts

I did read the post but it wasn't completely clear whether it was made available to people testing beta or not.

without fail there's always one douchebag in every thread - even though my question was thoroughly answered like 20 posts back just had to chime in with a late a** remark

get over it, when you ask dumb questions that have already been answered in the thread, yeah people are going to give you ****. Not our fault you choose not to read things and then just ask questions that have already been answered. Soon you will see how annoying it is when threads have pages of the same questions because people are too lazy to go read or search through the info that's out there. If you choose to ignore the information on the page right in front of you because you feel that someone needs to answer you and your question directly.... well yeah, you're gonna get some ****, sorry!

ohh, and here you go...

They obviously aren't releasing them so apple can't patch it up, undoing all pf their hard work. This way there will be less to no work once the full version is released.
Can't wait for OS4.0 + jailbreak!

looks like your question was answered almost 8 hours (and 7 posts) before you even thought to ask it! ;)

Interesting.
I havent tried it yet but I used facebook login to tie up my cydia purchases so hope that would help.
I know once you restore you device and try to install a paid cydia that you bought before the app automaticly recognizes your device by some serial number and displays "officially purchased" or something similar and lets you download and install it again. Not sure how many different devices each app will let you install it to without blocking you from doing it again for free with the same login.

The person complaining is just as bad as the person asking the question in my opinion. If they went back and checked they would see that my question was answered with a direct quote. So if my question was already answered directly why decide to quote me again 20 posts later to complain about my question. its just as stupid

In the 1,000 more posts he's had here I'm sure he's seen how annoying it can be . But come on... If it's been answered already you can either answer or just ignore it. Some times people post stupid questions. It's the internet after all.

When I see someone asking a question that's been asked I usually check to see if anyone has already pointed out the answer to them and if so I ignore it. If they haven't been told yet that they should have read I usually post an answer and then call them stupid in the same post. :p

Just piling on is necessary! :D

I mean, come on. We're all friends here!

If you read the same thread I read, I can't see any misunderstanding. He simply previewed a JB.

And 20 posts is quite the exaggeration.

Exactly, for all my purchases (3G Unrestrictor, YourTube, Cyntact, iClassic, MyWi, QuickReply, etc, just to name a few) I only had to log in using my Google (or Amazon, I'm not sure) account in order to show that I already purchased. No, it didn't charge me twice, and no I didn't have to contact the developers. Idk what the other dude was talking about, but it's been pretty stress-free for me to upgrade.

This is just not true. Applications purchased through Cydia are tied to your Cydia account, not to the device. Applications downloaded through Cydia but paid for and registered by some other means (apps like iFile, for example. with free trials and in-app registration) are not.

that's what i was saying... there are several different methods of purchasing packages on cydia, depending on the app, dev, and method of payment you may or may not be able to download the app again without either repaying or contacting the dev... i never said you would have to contact them everytime!

Just as your reaction, I never even saw anything in the thread to create any confusion that JB tools for 4.0 had been released. :D

Good post !

There is only one method of purchasing apps in Cydia: the Cydia Store. Any app purchased through the Cydia Store is tied to your account, not your device, and will automatically transfer to your new device. Of course Cydia can't automatically give transfer apps you don't purchase through Cydia, and I don't believe that is at all what the poster was asking.

ohh i see what you are saying now.. sorry for the confusion

I fully understand their reasoning for waiting to release these but I feel like the jailbreaking community is put on hold until they do! none of the developers can make great new apps that apple would never approve with all the new features until these jailbreaks are released! (im talking 3.1.3 and ipad 3.2 they obv shouldnt release the 4.0 JB until the build gos final)

3.1.3 is the same as 3.1.2 so why waste an exploit?

well for all the users stuck in 3.1.3. without a way out and the users stuck using tethered jailbreaks. But I totally see your point. I guess I'm just ready for everything current to be free roam again. I suppose its all building towards a huge showdown when 4.0 is released so thats good haha. Just glad im untethered and jailbroken on 3.1.2. haha.

So I'm a bit of a noob in Jalilbreaking / Unlocking but i have this questions...
1. Can anyone download the beta 4.0?
2. Is it stable/safe to use?
3. Can i Jailbreak it so idk what gets registered and then downgrade to 3.1.2? like if 4.0 was a prior version (sorry for my bad explanation)
4. Unlockable?

Wow seriously? 4.0 hasn't even been publically released.

1. Only developers.
2. Not for everyday use, it's BETA.
3. No 4.0 jailbreak has been released yet, it's BETA. You can downgrade although I've heard it's painful and what I did last time with the 3.0 beta's you don't want to mess with it.
4. No.

Exactly.
In other words. "Kids, dont try this at home" :D
