It's not a big deal but it would be a nice convenience. I have three email accounts on my phone that get mail regularly so I do quite a bit of menu navigating among them.

Let's have the mailbox name, not colored dots, please. I don't have good color vision.

Another YEP!

Steve Jobs also responded here (google translated). Was a question about sync free ePub eBook with iTunes.

Here's the complete mail.

Too many "personal emails"

IMO there have been too many personal responses to emails from Steve, I only bring this up because some of the language in this recent correspondence sounds too Apple.

Do people really just say "on iPhone" I know during the keynotes people are careful to say on iPhone, on iPod, on iPad not on "the" iPhone, To me it sounds unnatural to type an email about seeing a feature "on my iPhone" or "Do you think we will have background processes on the iPad?" Dropping "the" to me feels forced, so what are the chances these personal exchanges are being dropped by Apple themselves.

I have three accounts on my iPhone now. If this new feature comes out I would prefer to have the option to merge only some of those and not an all or nothing. I'd also like to have the ability to turn off the merge if desired.

So it looks like Steve must have been sitting on his favorite chair at home with his feet up if he was using the iPad. Just like he demo-ed the app.

All my mail accounts are already consolidated into one place anyways, so it doesn't matter much to me.

I do think it is funny people think Steve Jobs is sending out these messages as opposed to say the PR department.

Id also like to have a notification pop up like when you get a text that tells you who mail is from and the subject line etc.

You get this with the fantastic Grip (Growl iPhone) jailbroken app.

I don’t know if I’d even use that feature (I like my emails separated) but PLEASE get rid of that useless mailboxes list within each account! (The one with Trash, Sent, etc.)

I tap my mail account, then I have to tap Inbox on that useless middle screen. Then I have to go Back twice to get past that screen and back to my accounts list.

How often do I really want to get at my Trash or Drafts? Rarely. So don’t offer them constantly—put them in a button, but get rid of the need to skip through that mailboxes list! So I can get to my Inbox (and back again) with one tap instead of two. I will be a happy man.

Steve has been awful talkative lately. It seems like we're getting more and more of these short email responses that shed a little light on future plans. Sweet.

I suppose that's useless if all you have is inbox, trash, sent. But for me and many others who use IMAP and have any number of mailboxes, the mail app would be useless without that.

I don't care to merge my email accounts. I would like a button I can touch which would send me straight to the main screen with all my inboxes instead of touching inbox, exchange, accounts to get to my main screen. Also an option to mark all as read instead of one by one...

This does not help me and I hope that it is optional as I deliberately seperate my inboxes between business and pleasure. Funny how entire forums develop around a one word response from one man on a mythical computing device.

I keep three accounts in my iPhone and love that they are separate and distinct. I do understand how a Universal Inbox would be preferable to some. So let's hope it's configurable.

What I would prefer to see is a "home" button that would instantly bring me to the top of the email hierarchy.

And what's the deal with iCal meeting requests. When I receive an iCal meeting request, the mail app knows it's a meeting request, displays a calendar icon. Just allow me to put the darn thing in my Calendar.

I have 1 e-mail account for work, 1 for personal use and 1 for junk, and I would really prefer to keep those 3 separate from each other.

hopefully their will be a Merge on/off switch.

100% agree with you there, I have multiple emails that I use for different purposes, like work, personal, craigslist, junk, and my strong email that is associated with important items.

quick glance I can see with email it is in and if I can to open and/or respond

move emails off line

While universal inbox would be great, for me , more importantly, would be ability to move messages while off-line. Could do it on my old windows pda and makes great use of time (on airplanes) where you are not connected but would like to clean up / organize.

Then, upon reconnect, the server is updated.

Wishing/hoping....

I just hope you can turn that feature off.

I have two different emails I use, and I like having them separate.

First, I would like it if Mail on the iPod Touch would have push notifications. How come no one ever though of such a simple thing???

Um....is it even confirmed that people who "email" steve jobs are even emailing steve himself or someone within the apple organization replying on his behalf?

I haven't seen a single confirmation yet people/media report as if these replies are from apple/steve directly. It's probably some 10 yr old kid out in Uganda laughing his ass off as people email him thinking they are emailing steve jobs.

Rules & Spam Filters

A major issue for us is rules and spam filtering. >90% of the incoming email is spam. But I need that 10% that is not spam. Discarding an email address does not work. I have a combination of SpamAssassin on the web server plus Mail.app Rules to filter and sort our email. If the iPad is going to do email it will need this and a way to keep the rules I have on my MacOSX machine in sync with those on my iPad.
