Soon to be 76, have a fair mount of photos and songs. No games, few videos. Using 38 out of 64 gb without doing any house cleaning.

My go-to games are Tetrix and chess. So yeah, I'm dated. With iCloud, there is no need for and justification for excessive iPhone capacities. In my world, 128 GB is tops. But this is me and my habits. I don't mean to impose my opinion on anyone.

I'm 44 and won't go lower than 256GB storage on any device, whether laptop, phone, or tablet. I prefer to have the flexibility of being able to store music, video, and other things on my devices without having to deal with running out of storage. I do have a lot of apps installed, many of which are used either in my day job, my non-profit work, or school.

I’m 58. I have an Apple Music sub so I really use very little space on my phone. My wife tends to keep a lot of photos on her phone but she’s fine with 64Gb. I’m not big into games.. I play MS solitare the most these days. I am thinking of going back to a plus from an XR because I like the extra real estate.

I'm guessing the biggest age related difference is how you keep your media. If you're old enough to remember CDs and DVD's, do you keep your music and video locally, or have you made the leap to streaming.

I'd guess just about everything else is age independent.
Both. I have my iTunes library, which I store on my server, and every computer I own can access it at home (and over the internet). I also have Youtube Music, which can be streamed by any of my devices anywhere and is a replicate of my iTunes library.

Originally, I had Google Play Music (got in when it was alpha) and using the app Google provided, my iTunes library was uploaded in it's entirety. When I transitioned to Youtube Music, the library transferred over. It's been a simple matter over the years just to make sure the iTunes library on the computer that uploads to Google Music gets updated (because the updates push to Google).

I don't believe in having all my eggs in one basket. It makes things difficult. Right now, we have no A/C and are surviving on portable units. So my server is off. But I can still stream my music library from Youtube Music, because I didn't keep all my eggs in one basket.

I'm over 40 and get 256. Because I'm in Canada and don't have high data available when I'm out and about, I like to download my music (spotify). Most of my space is that and pictures/videos I've taken. If I'm doing anything else like games, I grab my ipad.

Nope. My phone has only about 20 gb used out of 64. I don’t take many pictures, stream almost all of my media, don’t play games, and only download apps I need such as banking, etc. My phone is a tool and I don’t stare at it all day so no need for it to be loaded up with junk.

I’m 40. I only store podcasts on my phone. Will pin and unpin music for flights. I have tons of room on my 64 GB iPhone.

I agree it's about how you use your phone.
What uses up the most space for me and my family is taking photos and videos on vacation.

It's a perfect example because you need all day battery so you pause iCloud backup but you're taking 100s of photos and more video than any regular day. You go back to your hotel which only has 1MBps free internet so it doesn't upload overnight, so after a week at disneyland, you really wish you had a phone with more storage.

The difference is I take photos and video mainly on a DSLR, my gf on her iPhone. So I have a 64GB iPhone 8, she has a 256GB iPhone 11 Pro. We're both 32.

Interestingly, I'm opposite in some ways. My iPad of my 3 devices has the least "content" on it and I've never gotten close to filling it. But having a 256GB Mac feels like an 8GB iPhone, too small to do anything with at all.
I have a 64GB iPhone, 32GB iPad, 1TB MBP.
I think this is why there's no reasonable correlation between any demographic and storage space on devices.

I got the iPhone XS with 256 GB using around 100 GB - mostly Music and Pictures/Video. My previous phone was the iPhone 6 which was 64GB and by the 2nd to 3rd year of using it, had to be careful about space - unloading much of my music.

I am 50 years old and I currently have the 512 GB iPhone 11 Pro Max. I am a photographer using Sony cameras and my iPhone a lot. More photos are taken with my iPhone than anything else and I have the Moment case and lenses. I store portfolios on my iPhone to show clients and take lots of photos with my iPhone. I probably didn’t need 512 GB, but whenever I was waiting to switch to the iPhone 11 Pro Max, the AT&T store had this gold iPhone 11 Pro 512 gig Sitting on the shelf because nobody wanted to pay for such high-capacity expensive iPhone.
So I was the lucky one to upgrade & get it. I’ve had it almost a year now or since two weeks after it launched and I’m nowhere near filling it up. I think I have 432 gigs available. However I will get the iPhone 12 but I will also keep this 11 Pro as a second camera phone. I most likely will buy the 512 GB model iPhone 12 Depending on how good the camera is. I do have music, I listen to it randomly with my Sony earbuds. So I will get the large capacity iPhone because I lake having the extra storage if I want to shoot 4K videos.

I'm in my 5th decade of life. And My first iPhone was a 6, and had 64GB. Which was more than enough.

My 8+ is 256GB, which again I think is more than enough for me. I don't do a lot of gaming or download many songs or videos, however. I think it's nice to have some spare room though. It's a way of future proofing it and making it last awhile longer. My old Android phone was really getting slow and unreliable as it got closer and closer to capacity.

So I like to get phones now where I won't have to worry about storage for awhile. YMMV, of course.

It's more what I do with it.
ProMax - 256. I do a lot pf photo playing around, a lot of music and then a few games.
For video watching, writing stuff, major games, and initial photo processing I use my IPP.

I do say as I have gotten older I am a bit more decisive on what I spend my money on.

I agree it really is based on usage. I am am in my 40’s and 64gb is enough but I have friends older who get the higher storage for different reasons.

36 here. I use my phone a lot. I like a little bit of social media. Photos and photo editing plus one game mainly.

Currently still have 65gb free on my 128 device. Not to mention a 128gb sd card too which I just cleaned up with over 100gb free at the moment.

If or when I move to ios and an iPhone it'll be a 128gb minimum so as to ensure I've plenty of space for when I'm not on the ball with gallery cleanup.

I am 43 and while I am not currently a iPhone owne, I am a iPad Pro owner. Now while I don’t play any games, the majority of my space is taken up with photographs in Lightroom via creative cloud. Had I relied on iPad storage for photographs, it surely would had been slaughtered with RAW files.

Do you need a lot of space on your iPhone? Do you have games for leisure activity on your phone? 64 or 256 or 512.

What I want to do and what I ha e time for are pretty different so do you keep it more simple with age and just get the minimum? Or do you still desire the extra?
Pictures , 4K videos, Apps Downloaded movies all take space as well.
128 or 256 if there’s no 128 should be fine

I have only a few games installed and regularly play only a couple. I do take a lot of pictures and video though so I won't buy anything smaller than a 256gb variant. I know pics and videos can be stored in the cloud to make access over multiple devices easier, and I do that, but I don't want to be tight on space waiting to be able to upload and free up space.

I am 60. Just Got The SE, with 64 GB. I replaced my aging 6plus witch was on life support for a while. My car does have Bluetooth, but also has a USB port for music, audio files. I use that. I loaded a few albums, mostly audible titles but Never really listened to music on the phone. (the 6plus headphone jack died two years ago). Retired, so I'd rather listen to my stereo system at home. Photos I take but are for things like blowing up labels etc. not a artistic photographer.

Always buy most GB you can to store your pictures as an extra backup device; do not trust external drives, clouds and computers; basically use as many devices for backing up your pictures (I do not store music on phone and rarely listen to it) and off course inmo printing selected best pictures is a way to go as you should not trust any electronic or cloud systems etc eventually tech and systems change rendering your media useless. No games on phone just use it for pics, occasional internet search and texting/talking thus I can't wait for iPhone 12 5.4 as I hate brick sized phones (tried SE 2020 but battery was awful)

I am 33 and I have one infant. I have never ever used up my 32GB iPhone. In fact, I sto have 10GB our of 32GB free.

I mostly streaming musics from QQ music and Apple Music.
wow with an infant you may want to buy largest GB possible for pictures from iPhone and I hope you have dedicated cameras as phones are limited to occasional snapping; your child will thank you later on and when you want to view this picture..

you really should get this cool Nokia phones candy bar as you don't really need iPhone inmo

I’m 29 and have a 256gb max pro and only use 66gb. Mostly photos.

I think GB use is dependent on use. Someone who takes a lot of photo/videos is probably what constitutes most storage.
