I use my phone as a phone with very little web surfing and no gaming.
You may want to consider Nokia candy bar they came back; I would if wasn't using the phone for storing my pictures and videos and off course taking pictures with it although I use Nikon for better pictures and keepers (as an extra backup device)

you really should get this cool Nokia phones candy bar as you don't really need iPhone inmo

Oh? Do they have the financial and navigation apps I need? Do they have access to my Apple Music subscription and can I manage my Apple Card with it? Control my AppleTV? Access documents on the go? I didn't think so.

While I only use my phone as a tool and not a zombie screen, a dumb phone isn't going to cut it.

I’m 41, I always bought the largest storage just because I thought I had “so much” to I store, now I’ve always been fine with 64gb, my 11 Pro and iPad 11” both have 20gb available. I like to embrace cloud storage whenever I can.

wow with an infant you may want to buy largest GB possible for pictures from iPhone and I hope you have dedicated cameras as phones are limited to occasional snapping; your child will thank you later on and when you want to view this picture..

I transfer picture taken weekly to my external hard drive. And delete from iPhone.

To be sure, I also have full resolution photo backed up to Google Photos .

My wife (40 next week), upgraded her SE a few months ago. Unfortunately she contacted her carrier directly, who managed to sell her a 256gb XS when she uses Apple Music and has iCloud storage for photos. I’m still annoyed that they conned her into that 😬

For the same reasons I tend to go for 64gb.

I'm 42 years beyond the minimum age required for this topic, so I guess I'm qualified to join this discussion. I have an iPhone, an iPad Pro, and an iMac (and various other gadgetry). between those three Apple devices, and maintaining storage on iCloud, I find no reason to ever buy beyond the minimum offered. Then again, I don't do a lot of gaming .. But I do do quite a lot of streaming and web surfing.

One thing I do is keep my iTunes content on an external drive, specifically a 5TB WD EasyStore. The big reason I use that drive is because the drive is formatted as exFAT out of the box, so both my Mac and MSI gaming laptop can access my iTunes content, and I only have to keep one copy of the library instead of two copies. I also keep my Steam game library on that drive, so if I have to reinstall Windows on the MSI or get a new machine, I can just scan the game folder instead of reinstalling everything. I also have a 1TB portable SSD I keep my commonly accessed assets for coding and graphic/web design on.

Mid 40s. XR 64GB that has 23 GB of storage filled up. I don’t use my phone for games and use streaming services.

I’m not part of the selfie generation so I don’t take loads photos or videos when I go out. No kids so that keeps the photos down too!

And I use my phone as a camera and not as a video camera so again, that keeps storage down.

I don’t know if it’s an age thing really. I think it depends if you are a ‘pack rat’ or not.

I’m 75 and i have the 2020 SE 256GB. I live in a semi rural area in the UK and the 4g is haphazard so streaming when I’m away from my WiFi connection can be frustrating. I love music of all genres and audio books, podcasts and also e-books so my phone is loaded with about 135GB of this stuff. No interest in gaming, life’s too short and there are so many other more interesting things to explore.

I am way over 40.
I second C DM.
It has nothing to do with age, more with personal needs. I don't keep music on my phone nor I play games on it. I use it as a phone (calls, SMS, MMS etc.), as a data storage device (passwords, dictionaries etc.), as a navigation tool and time to time for browsing in certain situations.
For music I use a dedicated mp3 player.
So, 32 GB storage space is more than enough in my case.

I picked up a 256 gig 11 pro max, love it...

Downloading a lot of music and got my favorite apps on there, like the size and love the storage.

With age, I'm getting less interested in the tech stuff that's not gonna do much to improve the efficiency in my daily life.

I don't stream much I mostly store music and apps on my phone but WIFI is mostly everywhere social so it's not much of a need to store things on the actual phone of course for security reasons you don't want to connect to all types of free wifi.

It's not a "must" for storage but it's good to have it.

I'm over 40, and so is my BMI, so I qualify more than anyone to post on this thread 😃.

My current iPhone7 is 128GB, but I have only used 60GB of that storage. This is quite annoying as it means when i upgrade to the iPhone12 I will need to go 128GB again just to be sure. Had I only used say 40GB then I could go for the cheaper 64GB iPhone 12. As it is, I'm between sizes.

since you use all those features then why not get a decent iPhone with decent memory and features

I’m not sure what you mean by decent iPhone. I’m not aware of any bad ones that are still out there. My iPhone X does all of that just as well as an iPhone 11 Pro. My iPhone 6s does all of that too, just very slightly slower.

What features? Other than the camera, they all do the same thing.

You might be the one who needs to rethink what phone they use. ;) I certainly have no need to spend money on the latest and greatest for my use case.

hahaha you dont even need a smart phone the way you use it and are refusing android haha thanks for the laugh
To each his own.
Let others decide what they need and what they want.
If it bothers you and you keep making ex cathedra statements enforcing your own criteria on others, you are in a wrong place.

48 years old here, but a tech nerd. I have the 256GB Pro Max. Currently it has 1203 songs, 127 videos, 14,211 photos, and 264 apps installed, and I have 152GB free. 256GB is plenty for me.

I'm guessing the biggest age related difference is how you keep your media. If you're old enough to remember CDs and DVD's, do you keep your music and video locally, or have you made the leap to streaming.

I'd guess just about everything else is age independent.
I do both. My personal library is stored locally on my iPhone but I also subscribe to Apple Music. I also have a lot of videos stored on my phone.
