iPhone Pricing Questions, Carrier Plan Hints

i don't think it's true but it would definitely be a smart move since a lot of the complaints about the iPhone are related to its high price.
 
I have to say that would be very very welcomed! Either way I'll have 600USD waiting until we get Offical word otherwise
 
My money are alo waiting :eek: , but that would be great new. I cant sign a contract cos I usually spend only about 6 months/year in US. That kind of price drop could indicate that WHITHOUT contract just as PAYG service wold be 499 and 599. I would save at least 200 on early contract termination fee :p
 
It would be sweet if this were true, I dont think anyone would complain about a $200 price drop lol.

They said the data plan would be $19.99/month....I dont think anyone as really answered my question. Would it really be nessissary? Besides not having internet/possible visual VM capabilities when you couldnt get a WiFi connection?
 
There is no way thats a real ad, it doesn't look very professional at all. Doesn't it seem strange how the only picture of the iPhone in the ad is the same one you can pull off the apple site or Google images? I think if this was a Cingular ad that the iPhone would be the biggest most noticeable thing on the ad. Thats just my two cents.;)

well i just saw this online on myiphone.com and like all rumors (and macrumors favourtie quote) It took it with a pinch of salt!

Well, it does look really disjointed and amateurish in general. But if it was just for a survey they may not have taken as much time to put it together.

I tell you one thing, though: I reckon demand would be much bigger at the lower prices.
 
This is one of those 'surveys' where they want you to put in personal information, as you dodge the 50 flashing pop-ups. Including name and email so they can 'contact you if you win the prize.' The next day, your email is spammed with 400 spams. You can never get that email back. Also 'surveys' like this are know for installing spyware and adware all over your PC. And yes this is an easily doctored photo. Just to pull you in for the 'survey.'

either lower the iPhone price or offer a reduction in AT&T service.
If they keep the current service plans and iPhone prices, I am sorry but I'll pass. I rather wait for the touchscreen widescreen iPod and keep my current carrier and phone.

I thought of that too, but this is not really claiming to be an ad. It is just supposed to test price points.

I would love to see a price cut with a contract. Engadget suggested that the price cut could allow cingular to sell the phone outside of coverage areas without a contract. Sounds great, buy the phone but not be able to use the phone part for 500/600 or buy the phone and a contract for 300/400.
 
well it has been updated saying it appears to be real! hmmmm....

(I wonder how those people feel who are like "so obviously fake, good obviously PS" and it turns out to be real!)

This is a 100% fake. I am a graphic designer, and these images are simply smashed together from the cingular site. Also to the person who said it seems odd they are only offering 200 email messages, reread. It says 200 messages, refering to text messages. Cingular has never limited the amount of emails, since it says unlimited internet, you could go to gmail mobile and access as many as you wanted anyway.

Over all point being however this is completely fake, and not sure who made the update saying it looks like its real. After all the fake iPhone pictures, you would think people would have a better eye.
 
Maybe Apple wants non-subsidized prices but AT&T is trying to convince Apple otherwise.

I don't really care that much--lower up-front cost or lower monthly rates--as long as I get my savings in some form!

this really isn't an argument if the image was photoshopped together. it was. no question of that. not even a debate.

so, it doesn't matter if the image is a poorly thrown together image.. it was done at (presumably) an official request.
now, whether or not it means anything ... who knows.

That is the plan I am on currently actually with my Samsung Blackjack. It's 200 "text messages" and unlimited data. It's called the MediaMax 200 plan.

That plan is a typical "Smartphone" data plan, the higher priced data plans are used for "PDA" phones with faster processors. If AT&T decides to classify the iPhone as a Smartphone and allow the cheaper plan, that is great news for all of us looking to get one.

Also of note, data plan on Cingular will allow any transfer rate your device can do. You don't pay more to get HSDPA/UTMS (3G) access over the EDGE (2.75G). Maybe AT&T is assuming since you are only getting slower EDGE speeds with the iPhone they'll allow it to use the Smartphone plans to help sell data plans to users.
