I have been loosing sleep over this very thought since this iPhone came out. I have been reading every little detail, review, positive, negative gripes and all. Hell I have gone down to apple store twice and been totally transfixed by the thing. I do not own or have ever owned a smart phone mainly because I hated the way the worked. The iPhone web browser and all its charm seems like the actual phone I have been waiting for but I just can't pull the trigger. I have the money saved up for the past 7 months burning a hole in my pocket. should I wait till the second Gen comes out or not? Are some or most of the bugs/issues going to be resolved with software updates or is Apple going to screw over all the new iPhone users in a few months? I am leaving work in an hour or so and pass by an apple store. So please anyone can you shed some light here...

pull the trigger man. it is great. sure there are some issues but nothing in the realm of "i just made a bad purchase"

I was going to wait as well but I ended up visiting some friends out of town who just bought two of them. After spending two days playing around with their phones I was sold. I flew back home and went straight to the Apple store. All the hype up until the release actually turned me off quite a bit so I had originally decided to wait until Gen 2. Thats what I thought. I don't think you'll regret it if you walked out and bought it today. The iPhone gives you the same kind of "How could I have lived without this before?"-feeling that I got when the 1st Gen iPod came out. I haven't had any issues with it so far. I am sure Apple will fix what ever issues are out there with software updates. Like flash support on the browser for example. I think this article explains it really well: http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/editors/2007/07/iphoneipod/index.php

When someone calls you from a different area code does it show where they're calling from (ex. state name or city name, state name)? I know Sprint has a feature like that.
Not sure if this was already answered but it does indeed show the city they are calling from. Don't remember if its when they are calling or afterwards when you see the details of a missed call. But regardless, it only happens for people who are not in the address book.

How does it (not) handle Flash?
Any other websites?

It's working fine on the MacRumors forums for me, just as if I'm using my browser on a laptop or desktop Mac. For flash, it just says you don't have flash installed.

Stable? any crashes?

I've had Safari crash a couple times so far. The iPod feature seems to crash a lot when I'm listening to music while browsing the web.

Startup time?

It starts in about 20 seconds.

Screen seem scratchable?

Surprisingly it does not seem to scratch at all.

How is using the virtual keyboard?

After two days of typing on it I'm getting pretty fast with the virtual keyboard, much faster than the regular keypad that I had on my old phone.

How was the installation experience with importing all the stuff

It was like importing all your music and videos to an iPod.

How easy is it to set up mail, contacts etc.

It was surprisingly easy to set up mail to work with my Gmail account. Contacts are easy to set up also.

Do you have any scratches or smudges yet?

Well I have no scratches, but fingerprints are showing on the screen when it's off. Unless you look for the fingerprints when your using the iPhone, you aren't going to notice them.

How's the screen in the sun?

It's pretty good, I was at the beach yesterday and I could easily surf the web and watch videos on the screen in the sun.

How good is the multitouch?

I really like multitouch, this is by far the best touch screen I've ever used.

Can the keyboard switch between qwerty and alpha numeric when typing? like on the wii?

There is a button that shows up on the lower left of the keyboard to switch between qwerty and symbols, etc.

EDGE bearable? Benchmarks?

I'm using a FiOS internet connection right now, but I still find EDGE to be bearable. I don't have any benchmarks though, if someone could point be to a non-flash based benchmark I'll try it out.

Which WIFI Encryption is supported?

It fully supports my WPA encrypted WIFI network.

How well does it find signals?

It's decent, it finds some WIFI networks that my MacBook Pro can't find and vice-versa, so they are comparable.

For the super fast cell phone texters, can the keypad keep up with quick presses of keys, or is there a laggy delay before the input is displayed? If you've ever used a Motorola Razr, you're familiar with this lagginess.

Yes, this sometimes happens when you are typing in a text field on a website while it's still loading. As soon as it's done loading, the lag disappears.

Can you save websites for later view?

While you're visiting a website, you can press the home button and it will save what websites you are viewing.

How does it feel in your hands, slippery, easily droppable?

It does feel a bit slippery, but it doesn't feel like you're going to drop it. It feels really nice in your hands.

Interface?

I love the interface, it nice and easy to use, while holding a lot of features.

Can you input text in landscape mode? (only in safari)

You can only do this in Safari unfortunately.

How long does it take to charge?

A long time, I didn't exactly gauge how long it took, but it was more than my old 60GB iPod took to charge.

How is battery life?

It's great, it lasted me almost all day yesterday while I was at the beach. I surfed the web, watched a couple videos, listened to music and it gave me a good 9-10 hours.

headphones?

I found the headphones surprisingly good for calling and very convenient.

Can you listen to music on speaker?

Yes, you can, and it sounds decent.

How much free space is there on 4GB or 8GB?

There was 7.27GB of free space on there when I first synced the phone.

Stop over thinking it. Just go out an buy one and enjoy! I have no regrets. I just finished up Pirates 2 on the iPhone and loved it. Currently have loaded 3 movies, 6 episodes of Lost, and about 250 songs. By the way, iTunes is a great central hub approach to managing the iPhone, no complaints.
Just go out and get one...

Absolutely agree with you, you can't make any appoint, ent, while you didn't try it for yourself. I live in Europe, so i still don't have iPhone yet, but i hope sooner or later, when it arrives in Europe iPhone will became mine...

Probably Biggest Apple iPhone community

i have a question, why dosent my iphones spell correction feature work all the time... this problem is irratating me... its difficult to spell every word perfectly.

My iPhone review:

I held off for the first couple of weeks on getting an iPhone. I was tossed between the Treo 750, and the iPhone only because of cost ect. I decided to get the Treo because AT&T had them onsale 149.00 refurb so I went to the store saw the iPhone and after 2 minutes bought my 8 gb. Never even held the treo.

I like everything about the iPhone so I'll list what I don't like (it's easier). For someone like me that doesn't want to "HACK" the iPhone no ringtones, or especially no AIM sucks. I want AIM, I paid for the damn unlimited plan with AT&T fine, but gimme AIM. Apple kinda misrepresents the word widgets when it comes to iPhone the only widgets I see is weather, and the stupid stocks thing (who cares about that). I would like to be able to add/purchase additional applications, ringtones, games i just want more.

I do like the fact that the iphone will dock in my Logitech speaker dock in case with the universal adapter removed gives me more charging options and that the charger is the same as the ipod.

I would just say I wish it was a full on iPod replacement which it's not it's good for a day trip or when you just dont want to lug the ipod also but over all it's awesome just gimme more with out having to HACK things

Thanks for your opinion, very informative. Thanks again.:apple:

Is this a way of buying an iPhone and not having to be under contract from AT&T. Of course, the "phone" part of it wouldn't work, but would it still work as an internet device on WiFi?

I called the new Apple store in Glasgow and asked, would all the other features work if I didn't avtivate the sim, ANSWER: was yes! It would be just like the iPod touch:p

I couldn't wait til Novemebr 9th so I had my mate buy me one yesterday and it's now on it's way to bonnie scooterland, should have it in a few days.... I will NOT unlock the phone! I want to wait and see what happens with o2, I assume I could sign up with O2 come Nov 9th?
