I'm just wondering how and when (in relation to the release date) Apple's going to showcase any additional functions on the iPhone... I mean, there's gotta be some sort of keynote about the iPhone (I'm assuming it'll be at WWDC, but who knows) showing Apple's solution to viewing "Office documents" on the phone... and is it just me, or is it completely logical to believe that Apple may also incorporate GPS into the iPhone?

I know, I know, probably total wishful thinking, but, I'm just thinking that since Google Maps now supports GPS, it wouldn't be that far-fetched to believe GPS would be on the iPhone along with G.M.

And why did you feel the need to post that?

I'm happy to buy 'First Gen' products. I got a 17" Powerbook RevA and havn't had one problem with it. Still using it today.

For the ones who keep saying the tired cliches of "I'll let the early adopters work out the bugs" etc. What if the iPhone turns out to have no bugs at all and lives up to the hype? Have fun waiting 1+ yrs to get yours, or don't come round here saying you got one because I won't let you live it down.

THAT'S WHAT I TALKIN ABOUT...MAYBE MICROSOFT MIGHT PUT OUT A CRAPPY 1STGEN PRODUCT...BUT APPLE HAS A HIGHER STANDARD THAN THEM...I HAVE A 1ST GEN MACMINI...NO PROBLEMS...MAYBE O MAYBE APPLE HAS DONE SOME EXTENSIVE QUALITY CONTROL ON THE iPHONE...THEN MAYBE ITS NOTA 1ST GEN BUT A 2ndGEN....OR MAYBE YOUR RIGHT I DONT KNOW....BUT ITS NOT A CONCERN FOR ME...

1. if "average people" haven't managed to save money for the iphone since mid-january, they have bigger things to worry about.
2. buy a case for it.
3. who cares? skype is great for your computer... if you're making calls away from it, use your phone.

(4.) yeah, yeah, we've heard it a thousand times before... first gen, it's gonna suck, yadda yadda... if it does, we'll buy the next one. god bless interest bearing savings accounts.

No, God Bless buying 200 shares of Apple Stock the day before the iPhone was announced! Let's see, almost up $30 a share since then... I can almost buy 12 iphones!

Too bad it's all in my retirement acct! Doh!

I would think that the phone is GPS enabled. Isn't just about every phone these days? They may not have the software, but they have GPS for 911, etc. If you just link that info to google maps, you'd now have a navigation device that's cheaper than a TomTom, Garmin, etc.

If you're lucky. I think a lot of locations -- particularly in smaller markets -- will run out of iPhones before the end of the first day. That ain't all bad considering the positive buzz Apple will get from news about the scarcity of product.

It will be like Cabbage Patch Kids and Nintendo 64 all over again!

LOL, maybe you can then sell the phone and contract on eBay for 3 times the value. Hehe.

Your guess is as good as mine, but I think you will see:
1) An invitation to the Press for a Special Event, probably titled "Hello". The invitation will go out a week before the unvailing and the phone will be available (in very limited quantities) on the day of the event.
2) A join presentation between Apple and AT&T at that event
3) New features will be available on the first day it is available.
4) Additional features about every 6 months

...agreed...why would you wait all that time to get Rev B or whatever, when it will have new features that will have bugs etc anyway...its not like they release the exact same product with all the bugs fixed a year later...

And here I scheduled to take off work on the 15th!

Well, I've resigned myself to the fact I probably won't get it as soon as it comes out.

But, as long as I get it within the same month I'll be happy.

Who am I kidding? I'll be MAD!!

People are still camping out in front of stores for Nintendo Wiis, and they came out more than six months ago. I've still never seen one on a shelf. When I bought mine, Target just had the boxes right at the register and let us in two-by-two.

Looking up info on the N64, I see it's distinction is that it sold 500,000 on the launch day alone.

I might think about getting an iPhone if they ever release one with no camera in it.

Exactly! I'll get the iPhone when they have GPS software and VoIP. Then the iPhone becomes very cost effective at that point. I'll eBay my TomTom and cut back my cell minutes and it will make up for the cost of the phone in no time. Oh yeah, and the iPhone does some other cool stuff too. :D
