What happened to the good old days of Apple Computer rumors.
I'm so very tired of all this phone stuff....TV stuff......
I am sitting here writing this on a new MBPC2D which crashes 20 times more than my old TiBook...looses airport connections faster than a speeding bullet....with a screen that looks like s**t.....while waiting on a new OS and updated software......and all so we can have some over the top over priced phone:confused:

I must be getting old;)

Hey, so can someone officially explain to me what is wrong with MBP screens? I look at the ones in stores and they look fine to me. What don't you like about the screen? (The new MBP will be my first Mac, so I'd just like to know what I'm getting in advance...)

If you're tired of non-computer rumors, check out the four MacRumors stories prior to this one. All computer-related :)

Note, however, that Apple's non-computer products are also excellent, and that they help grow the Mac platform. As for overpriced, what phone matches iPhone's features for less? (And you'll be horrified to note Nokia's latest $1100 phone :) )

Best of luck getting your MBP serviced. Getting a damaged unit is highly frustrating.

They look fine to me, but reportedly SOME units have a lower-quality display than advertised, showing color bands or texture instead of smooth gradations. Which, if true, Apple should correct for sure, even though for some people's usage the difference may not be noticed.

Here's how to test a display for smooth gradations, with an example of what a bad display would show:

nothing, apple just 'claimed' they are better than they are, as in millions of colours, but the are the same as in all other laptops

Do you work at a strip club?

Nope, my wife wouldn't let me take that job. :(

How about breaking the lens and filling in the hole with glue?

I guess that's always an option (but not really, because no way I would have the stomach to break something I just paid $500 for), but I'd really rather Apple offer a cheaper model with no camera. Or pratically any phone manufacturer for that matter. It's becoming increasingly difficult to find any modern phones without built-in cameras. I even convinced one of the higher-up IT people to look into using Macs here, but as soon as they found out about the built-in cameras in the iMacs and the laptops, that dream went up in smoke. Theoretically, my boss could buy Macs if he wanted to (provided they were no-camera models), as our purchase decisions are separate from IT (IT buys the desktop machines, we buy the ones that do the actual work around here), but my boss is not much of a Mac fan.

First...I'm sorry I sent this thread off topic;)

But speakerwizard.....That's simply not true.
There are many people, myself included, who do color critical work and require a monitor that reflects that need.
The 3 MBP's that I have had all have a very poorly illuminated screens with a very substandard viewing angle.
And yes the "millions of colors" claim by Apple is also very dishonest and leads to some very bad color banding.
BUT....overall the screens are fine for most general purposes and users so, kinkofkolt, do not let my experience disuade you from your purchase.

The reason it concerns me, though, is that I'll be using it for graphic design courses in college. I do have a gorgeous Samsung external widescreen 19" monitor though, but I don't want to have to plug in my MBP all the time just because the screen is no good... :(

Then you are right to be concerned.
This situation was originally bought to my attention through these forums so I spent a lot of time researching the facts.
I have had 3 MBP's so far and FOR ME they are not as good as I would have hoped for.
Rather than rehash the resasons I would suggest you going to the relevant threads and reading the many opinions on this touchy subject.
But mainly do the due dilligence thing and check out the machines yourself.
In the end it is a very subjective issue (aside from the millions of colors which is simply a fact) and only you can determine what is right for your needs.
Good luck and enjoy your new Mac.:)

I'm pretty sure that's just a rumor and was never 'officially' confirmed.

i pretty sure it's true. at&t want's something out of this deal too. You think they're gonna rearrange their whole network to accomodate the iphone, just to have it be in every other competitors shop 6 months down the road? Forget it. I wouldn't have inked a deal without that stipulation either.

Whoever passed this up at verizon is kicking themselves. It might go down as one of the worst business decisions, ever. At&t will lure new costumers, who will now pay more for their bill, lock them into 2 yr contracts, and have the other apple phones for the next 5 yrs, gain enough revenue to build their network into as strong a network as verizon's.

Or i could be getting ahead of myself.

Go Ahead...

1. this IPHONE is too expensive for the average person.
2. if its dropped then your "SOL"
3. will it run skype!

its first generation, let the early addopters get all the bugs out.
ill wait for GEN2

By all means, wait for Gen 2 iPhone to come out. Let the rest who choose, remember, no one has a gun to the heads of those anxious to buy, let them enjoy their new phone.

When Gen 2 comes out, it may have newer stuff like G3 or GPS or new "widgets" that 'could' cause problems or conflicts. So one never knows about bugs but it is a poor excuse to avoid getting Gen 1.

With regards to price, Steve Jobs said that in the future he hopes the cost of the components will come down to allow Apple to reduce the price of the iPhone as each prgression comes out (I wish I knew where that video clip was from, CNBC I think, but anyway), but by the sound of it, Gen 2 iPhone may or may not have a price reduction. Probably 25.00 or 50.00 bucks but nothing major by the way SJ sounded, IMHO.

With regards to if you drop it you're SOL. My advice, don't drop it! But if you are that clumsy, buy insurance for it. If AT&T doesn't offer, find some other way to insure it and buy a third party protective case to ensure it's survival if dropped.

Don't know about skype.

Why even post CSNBC videos? It's some what hard to watch considering the advertisement plays in the background, drowning out all the diolag.

I agree....I was not aluding to the forums as much as the constant non computer news coming out of Apple and their obvious shift in focus.

Also as an Apple share holder I'm very aware and glad of the increased revenue and attention.:D

Just wish some of the computer stuff had not been put so far on the back burner is all.

As for getting this POS MBP fixed.....I gave up on that a long time ago. Another reason I can't wait for Apple to refocus on their computer line.

Wow....Next to the Nokia the iPhone sure is a bargain:eek:

What if iPhone flops?

Anyone worried what will happen if iPhone flops? Lets look at this year so far, Leopard delayed until October, Mac Mini rumored to be dropped, Apple TV released but is a flop. Despite all the bad news Apple stock is skyrocketing. Analysts said the stock was going up because of early Leopard sales, but they turned out to be false. Analysts thought Apple TV would boost Apple, but that's turned out to be a flop, no HDTV content, no iTunes rentals. Only thing left is the hype behind iPhone. An admittedly difficult market to get into. They've partnered with an unpopular telco company. They admit they've bitten off more than they can chew, having to delay Leopard. What if all this hype doesn't hold up? Seems hard to meet the amazing expectations. Its likely that it won't meet expectations.
Then what will happen to Apple stock? Will the halo collapse?

Man, maybe if Steve Jobs read your post, he wouldn't be a big flaming liberal!:D

Have you nothing positive to say??? Try it! Try looking on the bright side. You may have a better perspective about life and Apple?

Your post is just as bad as those politicians complaining about the war in Iraq! Never once do I hear anything positive and closely resembling "victory" coming from certain politician's rhetoric and my how certain politicians have "changed course" from their stance, feelings and speeches back in 2002/2003. Just hand wringing and we've LOST. I'm not going to go on and turn this into a political post or war/anti-war post any more than I have done. Believe me, I can rant on and on and on about the degradations coming from our so called "leaders".

I am saying, I'd rather hear from someone with a positive outlook then one who spouts doom and gloom and FUD (a little computer lingo there) and that includes posts about Apple and Apple products. Go :apple: !

i really hope its june 20 that right before i leave for college i got the 600 all ready to go

Not sure how this turned into a political debate. War in Iraq is clearly not going well, Bush lied, manipulated and threatened to get us into the war. The republicans continue to threaten anyone who opposes Bush's war as unpatriotic and not supporting the troops. If you think the war is going great, and you think Apple is going great, that makes me worry even more about Apple.

i don't think the apple tv is a flop i just think people don't get it. I agree on the hd content, but this is perfect for someone like me, i think they messed up on the price, that's kinda what killed it. I know theire computers have a false overpriced, reputation, but lately their products seem a little overpriced to me. i think they need to have it stream more video formats that would help a lot too. but 40gb for $300 bucks is like 8gb for $600

The iPhone is a Mac Computer

Isn't the iPhone a Mac? It is, afterall, running a version of OS X (and from the demos I've seen it aint Tiger it's running). From what I expect at WWDC we will all see updates to MPB, macMini's, displays and iMacs. We'll probably see demos of iLife and iWork and we'll see the other OSX mobility devices as well, including new iPods. The last time I checked all of these products contain microprocessors and run OSX variants. (In fact, there is more processing power in the iPod than the original Macintosh's)

iPhone development and Leopard developement are codependant. The features you see in the iPhone demos are leopard features. What else could they be?
-Resolution independence
-Gestures
-Natural language Voice recognition and playback (go back and look at the Leopard demo from WWDC 2006)

Finally, I fully expect the new iMacs, MBP and displays to support Gestures in OS 10.5 (Possibly 10.4.10?) It'll make Vista look...well, I don't even need to say it.

Forgot to mention...
iTunes updates to support DRM free music and ring tones. Probably movie rentals from iTunes and that means a major upgrade to the SW. I expect to see UI changes to all of Apples SW. WWDC 2007 will be hugh!
