As always conflicting statistics depending on the source. Go to sites such as ZDNet and the story is quite different where Samsung have the upper hand.

Not of course there is any bias at all.

Samsung is selling more devices than Apple, but Apple's best-selling model is outselling Samsung's best-selling model.

It's not that complicated.

So...either the analysts who wrote this article are so badly wrong the article is worthless, or Apple is using misleading numbers (like sales to customers vs sales to retailers that are still kicking around the supply chain somewhere).

We have no way to know which.

This article said 39 million were iPhone 7 or 7+, the other 10 million were likely SE, 6s or other older models, right?

Although factoring in the 6s, 6s+, SE, 6, 6+ and 5s (I think they still might have been doing those for prepaid) I'm just barely squeezing those so that any would be less than 1.4 million...

If we don't get a load of innovation from Apple this year, that S8 will definitely change the statistics next time around.

Apple only focuses how many were sold, i bet returns are not included in this count.... so ya, the figures don't add up..

I don't think the S8 would be the phone to use as a measurement. I would be willing to think the Galaxy Note 8 would be the next phone for the sake of comparison. Mainly being it releases around the same timeframe as the iPhone 8 should.

Let get this straight. In the chart j series (Samsung lowest end phone) sold total 11 mil. But Samsung sold 80+ mil phone in Q1.
So doesn't it mean Samsung sold 80 - 11 = 69 mil mid to high end phones like s7, c9 pro or a series. So it is not correct that Samsung only sells throw away cheap phones?

Also o did the chart purposely omit s7 which was reported to have sold about 8 mil in Q1?

Samsung is getting pummeled like a mule lol

Not really surprising, the iPhone came out late last year, so of course sales of it are strong in the following quarter. Samsung s8 wasn't even released in q1. Let's see the same chart for q3, just before September.

Won't matter. Iphone will still be beating it's brains in. Deal with it.

These aren't Apple's numbers.

But when it comes to the numbers Apple reports, it accounts for expected returns based on what it's experienced historically. If returns deviate significantly from expectations, it would have to adjust for that.

Samsung's Mobile revenue was a little less than $20 billion for Q1. That includes phones and tablets. So if Samsung sold 80 million phones in Q1, its ASP for those phones was less than $250. For the average to be that low, it would have to have sold a lot of low priced phones.

What Android fanboys either don't realize or gloss over, is the EXCELLENT system integration of the whole Apple device/computer ecosystem. For me, THAT is huge and trumps things like slightly better HW specs.

And what Apple fanboys either don't realize or gloss over is that some people don't want to buy into an ecosystem.

Can we let go of the fanboy stuff now at least for this thread.

It's never been correct, it's just something certain Apple users like to toss as if they actually have a clue.

The iPhone is beating the Galaxy head to head by millions and millions of units and has every single year it's been on the market.

Technically you got it wrong. All Samsung phones are sold under Galaxy branding. But if you are referring to S or Note series you are only correct for some quarters of some years.

Nothing will ever shut up the 'Apple is doomed' folks.

Talking in "quarters" is basically moving the goal posts. These two phones don't ship at the same point in the year. If you want to compare them, you either need to use calendar years or 12 month cycles. Using business quarters is not accurate.

Let's be honest the "bestest" is determined by market share then.

iunno, sometimes the "Bestest" isn't even popular. And ends up dissapearing into nothingness.

For example from an OS perspective, I found that both Windows phone and BB10 were better than Android or iOS.

But neither had success in the market.

Basically, Market share, popularity and sales do not automatically equate to quality / best. There are way too many factors involved. It's equivelant of me saying that BackStreet boys were amazing musicians because they were so popular.

This one appears to be catered to "our" needs for Apple to be #1 in rankings. It appears to be by individual model of phone, whereas other such surveys are based on which companies sell the most smart phones (of which Samsung tends to dominate by far). Another variation of this survey to feed the Apple fans would be "which phones are most profitable?" where Apple will win as well. Either are great for those that have a need to see Apple ranked #1 in a list.

And less great for those who need to see an other company ranked #1 in a list. :)

Does this track all brands? Particularly across Asia? They are all android phones and have populations in the hundreds of millions.
