Most of the Android growth is driven by cheap handsets in Asian markets: companies like Huawei, ZTC, Pantech.
this couldn't be more false. Its driven by motorola, htc, and samsung.

By my back of a napkin total 2011 Android sales calculations, Samsung, LG, HTC and Motorola accounted for 140 million smartphones (two thirds), while ZTC and Huawei came in at 70 million (one third).

You youngins probably don't know this....but Apple used to make computers...

The charts seem to indicate that 75% of Apple's revenue now comes from iOS devices.

We will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.

????

Droid was their thing, they refused to bend over like AT&T when the iPhone was first introduced.

Bend over? Actually I'm pretty sure it was a mutual thing. Apple took a huge hit on what Verizon offered for exclusivity, but Verizon wanted 3G and CDMA. Apple knew that 3G wasn't ready yet (Just as they left LTE out of the 4-S), and that CDMA network is garbage, and nearly 6 years later, their iPhone still can't simulatenously use data/voice.

First of all at the time 3g was in fact ready, my feature phone had it, and CDMA garbage? CDMA has several advantages over gsm.

Advantages of IS-95 (CDMA)
  • Capacity is IS-95's biggest asset; it can accommodate more users per MHz of bandwidth than any other technology.
  • Has no built-in limit to the number of concurrent users.
  • Uses precise clocks that do not limit the distance a tower can cover.[7]
  • Consumes less power and covers large areas so cell size in IS-95 is larger.
  • Able to produce a reasonable call with lower signal (cell phone reception) levels.
  • Uses soft handoff, reducing the likelihood of dropped calls.
  • IS-95's variable rate voice coders reduce the rate being transmitted when speaker is not talking, which allows the channel to be packed more efficiently.
  • Has a well-defined path to higher data rates.

This explains why people will frequently drop calls while traveling down a freeway on gsm phones but have no such issues on cdma.

That's Apples fault, their are two phones on VZW that are capable of simultaneous voice & data(SVDO) on 3g and all 4g phones can do it. It's up to the manufacturer to implement the technology.

Sorry Mr. Bigs, but Apple created the most successful electronic device ever, and Verizon waited until 150 million + iPhones were sold. Verizon loses, ATT and Apple won.

The only advantage that actually affects 90% of people is the fact you may drop more calls. However I drop MAYBE 2-3 calls a month, I simultaneously use voice and data, and use my data AT LEAST 100 times more than calls. Maybe if I had a flip phone and only made calls on the freeway (a la 1990's when CDMA was just as good or better). You sir, are not smarter than Apple. Apple took LESS MONEY to go with BETTER QUALITY hoping to build a LONG TERM success. Verizon was stuck in the moment, and on their own jocks.

At the time there were phones with 3g already on verizons network and apple chose to release a phone on at&t's awful and slow edge network, not even 3g. And 2-3 calls a month is not good, I haven't even dropped 2-3 calls a year on my verizon phone ever.
