I doubt that they'll release the iPhone at WWDC. Announce it probably, but not release. The hype machine needs momentum you know.

The glowing/flash Apple logo sounds bogus.

I highly doubt it will come with and OLED screen. It just seems to farfetched to me. Those screens are really expensive $$$$. I don't see apple doing that. The 3.2 megapixel camera and compass seem plausible.

Apple logo on back will glow... I started laughing!

It will glow to indicate this version of the iPhone has an internal nuclear battery with a 50 year life. Because of inadequate shielding, the user will also glow. The real downside is that the battery will outlive the user.

...and that's the truth...mostly. Pass it on. ;)

oled is not that far fetched . Samsung has some high end phones with oled, and we know the relationship that apple and samsung have. i can see it happening the oled part

I think these "rumors" show that no one really has any idea what is going on, and people are just thinking up random crap.

Personally, I think the lack of any believable information at this point shows that WWDC is going to be pretty uneventful (by the standards of most) Just more involved promos of 3.0 and 10.6....which I am looking forward to.

Anyway here are the rumors I have heard:

Apple will be releasing a new iPhone with a unibody case carved out of pure platinum (the shavings are thrown away, not recycled). The screen will be carved out of pure diamond. The internal components will be all hand made by virgins. Each unit will be blessed by the dalai lama. The power cord that ships with the phone is not covered in rubber, but by the wing skin of terradactyl that were genetically engineered in a process similar to that in Jurassic Park. Each animal provides for only one cord, or else that would be cheap. It will come with a dock carved out of elephant tusks. The battery will run on power from stem cells. Also, it will not have a name, but will be known only by a symbol because it is too worthy to be called by a name. Each phone will have its own dedicated GPS satellite. It will be free.

If they don't at least come through on those features I am done with apple. I will just go back to my razr.

incredibly funny

my concern about recruiting 450 more staff..I know apple is working with Volt staffing in Addison TX to bring on iPhone support staff to a vendor center under temp employment. in my contact center in Dallas, I have trained now 10 reps who were let go due to class cancellations over the past 4 weeks. I don't know if apple can't make its mind up on temp staffing outside Austin or what's going on..could be like the rest of us--can't keep needed headcount--but I'm not sure we're seeing a ramp-up for new product launch.

Sony probably has made millions for their Walkman. I'm just assuming that while sales overseas may be modest, Sony must still sell well at home in Japan.

I forgot where Sony gets their screens though I believe it is Samsung. Apple could have have bought screens from either Samsung or LG for the "Pro" line of iPhones while the regular have LCDs. Maybe both. Apple has been know for a long time of draining a company's stock of something. Heck, they continually cause flash shortages around the world every year. It's also possible that OLEDs could be reserved

This is just conjecture. The chances are less than 50/50 but it's not out of the realm of possibility especially if Apple is constantly worrying about battery life.

In that leaked parts list a few weeks ago (obviously skeptical about it though)......did they say something about getting screens and cameras from samsung? or am I mistaken?

yea some people are just oblivious to the world around them so they dont realize that OLED screens are being used already in the mainstream. the samsung i890, the nokia n85 and the upcoming samsung i7500 are just a few examples i can think of off the top of my head.

Iron Man version? Would be pretty cool. Samsung RAM (amongst others by the sounds of it), Omnivision Camera, screen?

I don't want to see OLED unless OLED has come a long way. Supposedly OLED loses color quality relatively quickly, making it only suitable for screens that don't get used for hours a day.

I use my iPhone for hours a day, especially when the screen is on while driving (dash-mounted), or when playing music docked to my stereo.

Omnivision camera....thats what I was thinking. I hope for more ram (or higher freq.). OLED screen doesnt sound that far fetched for me. Im hoping for the world. Like that new really small low voltage dual core ARM. lol but that would be crazy insane. That Processor used less energy(not much less granted) and had more power than the previous ARM processors.:D I can be hopeful right?

July 17th? My birthday is July 18th. How convenient! I highly doubt it, though. It would be nice if it happened either way. :p

That would turn out nice for you. The First iPhone was released on June 29th. Then the 3G was on July 11th. Who knows for this one.....I think July something. lol Pretty vague, I know. :D

Telecom only has a CDMA network.
But this coming week is lunching there new GSM / "wana be geeky WCDMA" network ?

Just to be clear, the new Telecom network does not support GSM (it was planned but cut before launch). It'll be 3G only. Not that it matters to most people here, but it's relevant to us in NZ who might already be with Vodafone and want to switch. The iPhone (original model) won't work at all, but the iPhone 3G will be fine.

TelecomNZ's latest twitter:
@walkaboutkiwi Correction, we did not say we're launching iphone, all said was that we're talking to Apple & we're focus\ed on 3rd version

Heh

rumors at thinking apple is releasing a new product just because they are ramping up staffing levels?

Um. Hello??? 3.0 is scheduled for release this summer. They need SOMEONE to answer the phones for the rush that will come.

First, you don't need 450 more people to support their existing customer base and product lines.

I'd like to see the breakdown of off-shore support and whether any of those jobs are being moved to the lower 48 or not.

You do need more folks for support on expanding your product lines, but still not 450. Not even close.

I look forward to seeing the new market segments Apple is planning to address that requires such a large group of personnel.

I nostalgically remember when Apple was a computer company...

No doubt the iPhone fans, of which there are many, are terribly excited about another iPhone fuss. As someone whose main interest in a phone is in making telephone calls this is all a bit ho-hum.

I'm still hoping that steve pulls the old switcheroo and does the keynote instead of phil. OLED would be awesome though, and any improvement on battery life is good too.

The original iPod came out on Nov 10 with my birthday just two days later... Made myself wait til the bday to get it. It was the best birthday presentto myself EVER!!

At first I thought these rumors were leaks by someone in Apple to take some steam away from the Palm Pre release announcement today.

Now I wonder if this is a leak by Palm itself....
Clearly, they are going after Apple with the Pre, and are prepared to fight via marketing as well (they are releasing the Palm Pre 2 days before WWDC!)

The iPhone 3 specs like OLED, 1.5x battery life, super camera, faster, sleeker, etc.... may be falsely rising expectations for the iPhone 3 so that when it is announced there will be a lot of disappointment.

Seriously?

Why would they rise expectations for the iPhone and then launch their product BEFORE the iPhone is announced? Hyping up the iPhone would make people not want to buy the Pre when it comes out. If you wanted a pre but were reading all this great stuff about the next iPhone, you might wait to see what the iPhone has to offer instead of diving in with the Pre.
Your theory is ridiculous, I'm sorry.
