Sheesh, this thread is ugly! Be nice :)

OP- my moisture sensor in the dock area got tripped and the only way I can see that it did is taking my phone in the bathroom with me while I shower. If that happens with just a steamy bathroom I would imagine you do not want to take it with you in the sauna

Yeah I would guess. Thanks mate.

I'd do one of the following:

a) Get a GoPhone (Swap SIMs if you have a GSM carrier) and a cheap $5 MP3 player at Walmart. (Doesn't need to be an iPod could just be something that no one has ever heard of that plays music)
b) Put the iPhone in a couple of these. (Yes, specifically that brand and that type. Can't screw up the zipping, so no water can get in.)
c) Go however long without it. (The rapture won't happen because you can't listen to music. :p)

InB4 OP comes back saying his phone is fine but 10 months later when he cracks the back of his phone and needs a 29.99 back apple won't cover him because of the tripped water sensors :D kidding of course.

If you do a dry sauna, the temperature difference between the sauna and outside could create condensation which can trip your sensor.
The iphone does have a maximum operating temperature. Subjecting your phone and battery to these stresses could prematurely shorten your phone's life.

I was looking into purchasing something like this versus just buying a cheapo mp3 player.. thanks dude.

this is exactly the type of answer I would expect, instead of all these "dont come to my forum to ask questions I cannot understand" type of guys.

Thanks man, I appreciate your time and knowledge. I guess it was just a bad idea.

Well, until you clarified that it was a dry sauna, not wet, I would've answered like the other users.
I realize it's meant in the generic sense, but I'm a wo(man).:D Try to avoid the use of sexist language next time.

OP, if you're going to insist on bringing your phone in there with you still, look into the LifeProof cases. They go on sale tomorrow for pre-orders and will ship in a week or two.

These things will likely set the standard for cases to come.

My bad. Thanks, Im going to go that route.

From Apple's site for iPhone, iPod shuffle and nano

Environmental requirements
Operating temperature: 32° to 95° F
(0° to 35° C)
Nonoperating temperature: -4° to 113° F
(-20° to 45° C)
Relative humidity: 5% to 95% noncondensing
Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet (3000 m)

No difference between these devices so that shuffle will fail at the same time as the iPhone.

If the sauna's conditions exceed these limits then you will probably have problems. FWIW I take my iPhone into the bathroom every day while I shower and take pictures in the rain with no problems yet. The heat in the sauna is going to cause the biggest problems but the temperature warning will come up and not allow you to use it it until it cools down.

Not a stupid question at all. I can't believe some of the responses on the forum especially after looking at the join dates.

The devices won't fail instantly and I think for the most part they'll be fine, but if something does happen [which I'm sure it will from continued use in a sauna] then the iPod is cheaper and easier to replace. It's less of a loss.

Applejuiced

There's people that do scuba diving with iPhones, Im not sure what your point is. Also jacuzzi is not the same as a sauna. Thanks

Hey you should go for it then.
Someone with a little common sense wouldnt be asking this question to begin with, but do what you want with your $600 phone. Some people have more money than brains I guess;)

good job insulting someone whose just trying to ask a simple question.

btw maybe rather than treating your phone like it's the holy grail try to enjoy it. I could care less about a $600 phone. Hey and if i have money i must have had some brains to make that money right? ;)

Also losing one call for me while im in the sauna could mean wayyyy more than $600 to me in my business. And ive used a phone in the sauna for the past 2 years and have never had ANY issues.

Ok let me ask a simple question too. How do I open a door?:)
I enjoy my phone, I take care of it so it does its job with no probs and lasts that's all.
I use a phone while taking a shower too for 10 years and works great too:D

If you want to go a health club, I would invest in a LifeProof case. It would protect you from water damage. Like mentioned above, you have more to worry about than just the sauna. While the sauna might be fine, I would be more worried about the showers.

I realize you do not take your iPhone into the shower but you taking your phone anywhere near the shower can be dangerous. I live in Hawaii and just the water in the air here sets off the sensor and anyone coming to visit goes home with a flagged phone.

My guess is you are getting moisture in your phone just going near the dry sauna and the showers aren't helping either.

Have you used one of the lifeproof cases? Just curious if anybody had first hand experience with them.

The seem impressive. I just want to make sure it's as good as advertised. :)

Its a bad idea if you are going to do it repeatedly.

There are two possible sources of danger

1. Heat. Heat makes materials expand. The problem is that some materials expand more than others when exposed to heat. This is bad for electronics because circuit traces, contacts and other components (like capacitors and resistors) get stressed and can deform as a result.

2. Heat and water
Hot air holds a LOT more water than cool air. Hot water has more energy to react with things like metals. Electronics do not do well in such environments because they are waaaay more prone to oxidiation or having condensed water bridge electrical connections. This is to say nothing of the potential damage or fog problems that your phone's screen might have.

I dont know enough about how capacitive touch panels work to say if this would be a bad thing... but I can't imagine that it would be very good for it either.

If you decide to go the case route, I really like the Pelican cases. i don't have the one below, but i love the other cases I have from them.

These look nice but without anybody having hands on experience, I'd hold off for now. They do look VERY promising though.
There have been beta testers with the LifeProof for months now and all the ones that post on their Facebook wall LOVE them, and the production units are supposed to be even better. I'm not hesitating, purchase links come out today and I'm grabbing one. The demand is very high. Not to mention pre-orders include free shipping and a waterproof headphone adapter.

I have not owned a LifeProof case. I have known beta testers though and they love it. I have only owned the Otterbox, Marware and various cheap cases. Otterbox and Marware are the only two I have personally own and would recommend. Everything else I have seen is just a waste of money.

I go with the Marware iPhone cases over the Otterbox cases just because they are cheaper and work out just as well for me. However, you might want to pay a bit more to get the full on protection.

I did lose a phone into the ocean once and from what I hear the LifeProof case is the ONLY case that would have saved my phone but it wasn't even out yet. Lucky for me, the iPhone wasn't even out yet.

Jesus Christ, is it so hard for you to understand that THERE MIGHT BE CASES THAT SOLVE MY PROBLEM!? And that was where I was going for? How dare you talking to me about brains, read yourself and then talk to me. Im done with you.

EDIT: That was aimed for Applejuice

The Lifeproof looks the best from those two. Thanks a lot! :)

Didnt feel insulted. Im just frustrated someone cannot come into forums and ask a simple valid question without virgins eager to show that "im better than u n00b" attitude.

You never said anything about cases, read your first post again.
But whatever, its your phone do whatever you want with it.
Btw, learn how to respond to all replies in one post and not sequential.
Dont post 3-4 times in a row.

If you can go without music in the sauna, id suggest either not going in the sauna or not taking your phone in there. Very simple solutions. Something has to give.

I said I was done with you. Why do you keep replying? You need to learn how to read. Son.

There it goes again: I am done with you.

Just wanted to say, and I usually enjoy your posts bro, but you are looking like a bigger and bigger tool each post in this thread

OP there are plenty of things you can do to accomplish your goal. The lifeproof seems like the best option. I always use my backup Android device for the Dry Sauna. I gotta browse the internet or ill just get bored and leave haha
