Most people don’t know the model phone they’re purchasing, or simply don’t care.

IMHO price is what matters to the masses (the XR and and 11 are a testament to that); if this new iPhone (regardless of name) satisfy’ s your requirements and fulfils the vast majority of tasks it’s more expensive siblings do, it’ll sell like hotcakes.

Agreed that a name doesn't make a huge difference either way; I was exaggerating when I said "no one wants to buy and old-numbered phone". They could call it the "iPhone Cheap" and it would still sell if the specs and price were right. HOWEVER, good branding can make a difference on the margins and I cannot see a scenario where Apple would use the "9" name, which would needlessly position it as an old phone.

Which image sensors it gets will determine its ultimate market success.

The initial surge of buyers will probably have NO clue, AND/OR won't care.

But AFTER that, the image sensors may dominate the Buy / Don't Buy decision.

And here I'm referring to younger "potential" iPhone buyers who will care greatly.

My gut feeling is that it will get the same image sensor that the XR, XS, & XS Max have for their Back Wide Camera, which is ALSO the same one that the 11, 11 Pro, & 11 Pro Max have for their Front Camera.

Economies of Scale will be the #1 reason to go with it (i.e., Apple gets better pricing across the board for ALL the camera modules that use it).

The rumored 3 GB is probably NOT accurate; it will very-likely have ~2.8 GB of DRAM, just like the X & XR ! ... which makes these two UN-usable with High Perf Camera Apps !

Your average Joe might not know anything about what Smart HDR is or how it works, or how the first gen of it on XS/XR differs from the second gen on 11/Pro, might not have heard of Deep fusion feature or even computational photography in general.

But your most average Joes heard about Night Mode. The concept is easy to grasp, see and appreciate. Apple knows that. They’re hyping the feature up. This phone gotta support it if they hope to sell lots of them in 2020-2022 with the competition that is out there.

It’s not about the sensor. Night mode and other latest computational photography features of 11/Pro are software enabled by A13. This SE2/9 will have A13. For Apple to purposefully disable those features on this new device is straight up moronic and akin to shooting themselves in the leg. That’s why I’m convinced the camera capabilities will be equal to the iPhone 11’s main camera.

Take a leaf out of Cunard's book and stylise it as iPhone SEII

I love my SE.
It is all I want from a "one-handed" mobile communicator.
And fits on my front tight pants without a problem.

Love it so much, that I plan to have its battery replaced, and not buy this hideous SE Mk2.

For now, though, my SE is showing (via coconutBattery running on my MBP) 1386mAh/1624mAh or 85.3% of Design Capacity at 100% Full Charge with 210 cycle count.

SE ::= A winning design, at least for those that do rely on the phone as their only computing device.
(And for those that have no interest on feeding the beast at $1000+ a click.)
I don't much care about the one handed thing, but I agree on the others. Next big one is supposed to be even bigger and my PM just fits in my pockets now. And prices are getting insane. If that color is actually a reality instead of a tease again, I might consider it; although, I worry about being able to read the smaller screen.

..."final verification..."
aapl engineers bending the screen to see if it will be foldable phone - jk

I hope no more lightning port, USB 3, please!

Keep hoping.😁 ‘USB 3’ Won’t happen.

What will happen, lightning will still be relevant, it’s a huge monopoly for Apple in so many ways. It wouldn’t make sense for Apple to include a USB port on the most entry-level iPhone they would offer with this rumored unit. When/if Apple includes USB, that transition would probably start with the more expensive iPhones in the lineup.

I know it sounds unlikely, but Apple could theoretically call it the iPhone 11R, iPhone 11C, iPhone 11E, or iPhone 11 Mini or something. Just to keep it in the "iPhone 11 Lineup."

It's probably not going to happen, but it's a possibility. (I actually kind of like "iPhone 11E," to be honest...)
Ha! Had a "IIE" long ago.

But with no faceid it wouldn't look iPhone 11ey at all!
Or..."IIi"?

If production gets delayed, it's understandable and no big deal due to the circumstances. Besides, based on rumors, it looks like an updated 8 and not the same as SE as many have hoped.
Well - thanks to virus delays, I'm getting a new battery in trusty old SE today. My beef with SE is battery life.

I love faceid and all, but i'd seriously consider ditching my iphone X for one of these if it comes with the a13 and a 256GB storage option. faceid is no fun when wearing a face mask.
If you have an iPhone with an OLED screen, then a workaround would be to use the OLEDX app as it just sips the battery. Your phone would be unlocked (though you could utilize Guided Access but obviously that would defeat the purpose for quick entry into your phone).

Why does no rumor address which camera it will have? Are we talking the base camera from the 11, keep the camera from the 8, or...?

Because rumors originate in hardware supply chains and those guys have no idea about the software side of things. Camera capabilities these days are determined chiefly by software aka image processing, while physical camera sensors are very similar on the 8-X-XS-11. I believe it will be same as 11’s main camera.

Why? (Just wondering)

1. Tired of the weight
2. Tired of having a 1000 dls phone on my pocket; at the end of the day I just check emails, send whatsapp and take a few photos of the kid. If the low cost phone has the main camera of the 11 (with portrait and night mode) I´m in. I never used the 2x or the ultra wide to be honest, just a few times to test it and that´s it...

Yes I like the battery life, but I can charge the phone every day, is not an issue for me.

My 11 Pro is already for sale, bring it on SE2!
I don't understand people that go from max specs to lowest specs devices.....why did you even get the 11 pro? why do you consider the se2 an upgrade? are you going to want the 12? or just want the newest regardless of specs?

Still hard for me to justify "upgrading" over my iphone 6s.
just resist the hype. the 6s is still super capable

I never had the max spec iphone before, so I gave it a try. It´s a great phone, but after 6 months I realized I use only the main camera and the LCD on a phone is as good as the OLED (IMO).

Personally I'm looking forward to the 5.4" full screen iPhone. This one is most likely just another iteration of the 6 year old iPhone 6 design.

Cunard use the Arabic 2 - and only for two ships out of the 248 they've operated, despite re-using several names, so more like what Apple do with the iPads.

Maybe if they're in the European Union... But it seems like Apple want to go full wireless more than switch to USB C. Sounds like they're going to experiment with it starting at the end of next year, so I guess people's reaction will inform their direction on that.
