How would the video performance differ?

I’m considering picking one up to use as a secondary video camera.

I would like to know if you actually feel the difference between iphone SE and iPhone 7, because this is my upgrade path. Last thing I want to do is pay $400 and feel nothing has changed.

A10 to A13 is definitely noticeable. Webpages render faster. WeChat opens quicker.

Folks with a iPhone 8, 7, 6s may be looking to upgrade and might end up going with the XR even though it’s been out for a while. This is a great post for those wanting to know.

Or they might be looking for an X or XS? Size is similar to their 6.

Yes they’re no longer available from Apple but many carriers still have stock.

May sidegrade from iPhone Xr to iPhone SE 2020 if basic phone functionality is more reliable. Problem I have with iPhone Xr is it doesn't always ring although I get the call notification. Not much of an issue if I have it on the table where I can see the call notification but not when it's in pocket.

Between the two phones, you’re choosing the form factor. That’s it. If you’re somebody that’s extremely budget conscious depending on your country of origin/market, there’s only one choice, that would be the iPhone SE. The XR Has its advantages with the battery life.

I don’t think the camera is the same as the iPhone 8, or it wouldn’t be able to do portrait mode like the iPhone XR can. The other hint that it’s using the XR camera is that it can shoot extended dynamic range videos in 4K 30fps like the XR can.

Because it doesnt have an OLED screen, for me is a NO NO iPhone.
Why’s that? LCD has more accurate colors and better outdoor visibility. Most LCDs are higher resolutions as well, since they don’t cheat with mismatched sub pixels. The only drawback is bezels tend to be a bit larger.

Black levels are supposedly better on the OLED but I’ve never complained about black levels on any LCD iPhone. In most lighting conditions you can’t tell the difference.

The XR feels a bit expensive in comparison and at only £100 cheaper than the 11 feels slightly too close to the 11s price. Another £50 off would make the XR make more sense in my opinion. I do get the desire to have a mid range FaceID device on sale though so as a device it makes sense to keep it in the range.

iPhone 8s vs XR
The XR is a way better deal, almost nobody will notice the difference between the A12 and the A13, but the better screen ratio and the extra battery is a game changer

You're absolutely right, objectively. Subjectively, the first time you are in a dark room and the screen is so dark you can't tell it's on while an HDR video loads on youtube, you'll never see LCD black levels the same way again. I waited for the X specifically for the OLED screen and I can't go back to an LCD.

Another "advantage" of the XR is the "wider stereo" audio playback. I really notice the difference when I listen to something on my iPad Air - having sound from just one side in portrait mode is a little disappointing.

I've had an XR since launch (up from an 6). However if I was to choose today I would just go the SE. The taller screen is OK but disappointing its not a bit wider too. FaceTime is OK but you can live without it - pain in the butt when phone is on desk and you have to pick it up - or your partner wanted to use phone. I'd take the lighter phone, extra speed.

If the SE had Night Mode or the Ultra Wide camera I'd probably sell my XR and get one.

Why does every site a SE vs. XR comparison? People who have been waiting for a new small phone aren't interested in phablets. Or not only.

Other options should at least be presented too, like the XS, a great phone which is still widely available and, while too big, is smaller than the XR.

Hi

I do a lot of video calls and I am wondering:
Is there any difference in the front camera between the iPhone 7 and this SE?
I can see it’s still a 7-megapixel but I wonder if quality of front camera is exactly the same or will my contacts see any difference in quality of video during a call?

The SE is going to be a game-changer.

A powerful iPhone for $399 is basically a death knell for a lot of Android sales.
Maybe, if they did something with the screen and bezels, you know like it's 2020 and not 2014. I doubt Android manufacturers are having sleepless nights over what everyone thinks is 5-year old technology.

Samsung Android devices at $399 can easily outvalue it with longer battery life, OLED, ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and higher resolution display!
