“It’s not the customer’s job to know what they want” - Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs died several years ago. 14 years ago. The market is different today. Apple is different today.

Hmm… The market is a convenient fiction. “People” do not universally want a bigger display. Many want a return to the mini or the original iPhone SE size.

The Minis sold a fair amount, but didn't make as much money as the higher margin, high-end phones did. Same thing happens when national chains close certain locations. They were often profitable, but not as much as HQ wanted.

Apple should bring back a small phone — just as they should release an M series 12” MacBook. After all, if they can sell an iPhone SE, #X, #X Plus, #X Pro, they could certainly sell a Mini as well. It would generate enormous buzz and good will.

Lose the notch & DI, and bring back a real home button, too! (Alas, that last ship has sailed!)
The mini sales were unsatisfactory for Apple. So they discontinued the product. Margins have nothing to do with the decision, since it has the same margins as other models (The Mini was not a cheap iPhone like the SE).
So, again, Apple discontinued it because customers voted with their wallets.
Home button ? lol you are stuck in a 10 years ago past.
I really wish people would stop saying that “the market has spoken” with regard to smaller phones

iPhone minis sold just fine and were certainly not losing money.

It would really be nice if Apple would offer them even if it wasn’t going to be some mega seller just so their customers would have some choices to best suit their own needs
The market HAS spoken. Apple never released detailed numbers about single models, but several third parties reported a share about 3/4%. That clearly wasn’t enough for Apple. Period.
The fact here there are very vocal supporters of small iPhone doesn’t change a thing.

The market is different because Steve died. There is nobody out there grabbing the smartphone space by the horns and pushing any boundaries. Whilst there isn't much you can do with hardware I would agree, software is an infinite canvas that can be anything you want. Many ergonomic issues with larger handsets could be solved by rebuilding the OS around that space and putting more things within reach of a single thumb.

The market only spoke about larger handsets because of social media addiction which is a public health emergency. In an ideal world small phones would be the default. Their battery life is fine if you arent looking at endless content recommendations for 5+ hours a day. Phones should be seen as digital swiss army knives, not a portal of addictive nothing. But the market cannot see what it has been trained to be blind to. Steve would have kicked Zuckerberg's ass years ago.

Thinking about it more - dynamic Island is a possibility, after all it's just GUI changes to make the cutout look somewhat functional instead of janky.

The Island however I still predict will not have Face ID and will just contain the camera, speaker and proximity sensor to cut down on cost and differentiate it from the more expensive phones.

LCD Screen 60hz - honestly I have no issues with that on a cheap phone and Apple LCD's have a good track record.

MagSafe I'd guess will be included as it fits in with the ecosystem and is not some "premium" feature like camera, screen and Face ID - it's simple, cheap to add and most of all, something they can make more money from by selling you accessories.
